Electrical System Problems of Acura TL - part 1

The Acura key has a hinge on it with a release button and a spring where the keys open when the button is pressed and the key locks in place. The locking mechanism on the hinge failed. This means that when enough items are on a keychain on the key the weight will rotate the keys into a lever and pull the car into the off position on its own while driving on the road. My car has turned off without warning due to the key hinge lock failure on the highway ant speed and well as on bumpy roads and at stoplights.

Immobilizer unit (recognizes/reads chip in key fob) failure led to the car shutting off the fuel pump leading to the car shutting down. The car could not be started again leaving the driver stranded by the side of the road. Vehicle had to be towed to an Acura dealer since the electronic immobilizer unit cannot be replaced/programmed by non Acura dealers. Car has been sitting at Acura since the end of December 2024 waiting on parts.

The contact owns 2008 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing battery drainage failure. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after sitting for long periods without being driven. The contact stated that the battery was replaced six times however, the failure recurred. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer replaced the battery; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

On 4/28/2023 per balcones heights police officer Ford and officer lopez there is an issue with the license plate light. The light has been replaced twice, to avoid traffic stops. Police continue to cite the issue of no license plate light. There are not any warning lights on the dash board only cited by law enforcement. On 12/19/2020 officer castillo with guadelupe sheriffs officer issued a warning. The warning cited no license plate light. I took photos of the license plate light and took had the vehicle inspected by the Acura dealership.

While highyway driving for 6 hours the “check system charging” light came on for a few minutes, then went off for 10 or so minutes, then came back on. I was 10 miles from exit. I exited and left the car running while I checked in to motel. Drove to a parking place, turned off car engine, took a bag to room. When I came back out, flames were flaring from under the hood from battery area near fight front. The car had about 33,500 miles on it. A few weeks before, a “check battery” light had come on briefly. I took the car to dealership and told them about the battery light. I was going on a long trip so I told them to check everything. They replaced the battery and claimed to have checked the alternator, which they said was good. Even though the car only had less than 33,000 miles at that point, this was the fourth battery the car had had put in. 1) the original, 2) second put in by the same dealer, 3) a third when my battery went dead at a casino le one night. The valet charged it and I drove to an all night autoxone where I bought a new batttery, and 4) the last one a few weeks ago. The Acura had a hard cardboard engine cover that you have to unscrew and remove to access the battery or the rest of the engine. This cover was completely burned up. The car was totaled. I believe the cardboard engine cover played a big part of the fire. Note: the fire occurred at prescott, arkansas. I had driven about 7 hours from austin, texas that day. The car was serviced in las vegas. I have pictures in my phone of the burned out car which I can send to you.

I was driving my 2013 Acura Tl on my way to work and suddenly I got an electronic power steering error that resulted in my steering wheel stiff and I had to use all my strength to pull over to the emergency lane. The vehicle's steering became very heavy and was very hard to turn. I am fortunate not to be in an accident when it occurred. There is so many people with Acura Tl having this issue and Acura need to do something about it.

My 99 will unexpectedly shut off while driving down the road whether it be 5 miles an hour or 60 miles an hour. When this happens all power is off then kicks itself back on but won’t start until about 5 minutes to 10 minutes later and then runs smoothly but sometimes it will shut off again and take longer to start.

Random slipping/stalling causes not to go in gear. . Torque converter could. Coolant expansion tank needs replacement hoses and cap causes car not to heat up and operate at regulating temperature. Power steering pump replacement.

The hfi unit/bluetooth overheats or draws power when car is not on. After 2+ days of not being turned on. It drains the car battery.

These problems are not accident related but need to be addressed. My car battery kept draining. I replaced the battery just under a year ago and it kept happening unless I drove the car every day. Finally took it in to have it checked. The bluetooth device up in the headliner was shorted out. Got that fixed but found out that there is a class action lawsuit against Acura for this very problem. It's been ongoing for 5 years! the airbag issue has to to do with the fact that my dashboard is cracked, horribly, even though my car has been garaged and protected from the sun most of the time since I bought it in 2011. If the airbags deploy in an accident, there will be major shrapnel from the dashboard damage that will cause even greater injury. I would like to know why Acura is not doing anything about the faulty dashboard materials.

At the time of this text, the car is at an Acura service center. The interior has become soaked with water affecting the battery & possibly other components. The continuous problem, creating a damp & very wet interior, has caused mold to form everywhere inside the car, I am a severe asthmatic & this has been extremely detrimental to my health. While driving car, speed decelerated despite pressing on gas/accelerator pedal. Total ability to control speed on high way ended, as car crawled to a speed of under 5mph, nearly resulting in being hit by vehicles behind me. Immediately called independent mechanic who advised me to cut off ignition and restart the car. Highly dangerous to even attempt on a highway during rush hour traffic, nearly resulting in a multiple car crash. Reproduced several times until mechanic was able to diagnose and correct an issue unknown to me. There was no warning light indicator at all, no messages on car navigation/information panel.

The vehicle's electronic power steering system fails and the car is near to impossible to steer when driving due to the system failing. Difficult resistance is experienced in motion on city streets, highways and being stationary.

Tl the contact owns a 2002 Acura Tl. While driving various speeds, the transmission warning indicator illuminated and the front driver's side window button failed to operate. Hinshaw's Acura (5955 20th st e, fife, wa 98424, (253) 922-8830) was informed of the transmission indicator and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 157,672.

Takata recall car making noise while driving and reversing. Windshield wipers sprayer stop working. Radio won't turn on.

I was parked in an automatic carwash when my driver side airbag started dripping water on me. I'm afraid this could cause my airbag to deploy. I've also experienced crazy electrical issues intermittently that are not safe and I wonder if this is related. I also have a video if that is needed.

Power steering eps failure right around 60,000 miles my Acura Tl's power steering eps failed. The car was driving ~45mph on a straight 2-lane highway when the indicator lights went off and the power steering failed. After pulling over to the side of the road and letting the car sit for several hours, it started up with no issues. The next day, upon starting the vehicle, the power steering went out and never returned. This failure caused a chain of events (according to my Acura licensed mechanic) which caused failures in and eventual replacement of the rack & pinion, eps sensors, steering computer module, and multiple other sensors. The total bill was $4,200 for repair. Since this incident I received a notice from Acura that this is a known problem, and the warranty has been extended. This would have been good to know prior to the issue (the car is 6 years old) and prior to having to pay $4,200 and be stranded without a car for 10 days during repairs. Reading through reviews and complaints online, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident. I have made a claim with Acura for reimbursement of my expenses, and hope they do the correct thing and pay for the repairs. Invoice for the repairs (which were completed) is attached.

At random times the engine dies while driving the car which has resulted in unsafe handling and loss of power steering while in traffic conditions. I was unaware of a recall (02v120000) until recently. I have owned this car sense 2002 and the current millage is 109,000 miles. I contacted findlay Acura in henderson nv. And they stated there was no recall on the ignition switch which I have recently found that there was as noted above. Can you contact the dealer on my behalf as I am under the impression that the dealer is suppose to replace the defective part at no cost as it does cause an unsafe condition when it occurs. Engine just dies without warning. There has not been an independent assessment of the condition as it occurs on a random basis and of course, never occurs when you want it to.

Car is leaking oil gradually. Puddle in amber brown color on the garage floor.

Bluetooth hands free module has an open circuit causing battery to rundown prematurely. Also keyless fob slot gets worn down and remains in stuck open position not allowing doors to lock as it thinks the key is still inside the slot.

I replaced the car battery and within 4 days of being parked it was dead. The blue tooth hands free module continually tries to boot up even when the car is turned off and will leave you stranded if you park the car for a few days even with a brand new battery. I called the customer care line and they said they stopped making the part so the car must be parked with a trickle charger on it. There are only 64000 miles on the vehicle. The company should at the very least have somewhere the part can be repaired at. They just said they were only required to make parts available for 10 years.

The battery on this car drains due to a factory faulty hfl unit. This causes even a new battery to be drained and then left my wife stranded on several occasion. We originally thought the issue was the battery. Acura replaced the battery even though it was only 2 years old rather than fixing the real problem. Now the car is no longer under warranty but we have to replace the battery every couple of years.

The warning lights came on and then the steering completely went out while driving. This was a very dangerous situation. My wife was barely able to get the car off the road. This happened twice. The first time, the service department replaced the battery and two days later it happened again. It turned out to be the eps module. This was very scary and dangerous.

Car turned off and would not start back. Security light flashes. Will not change our of park. Engineers turns over but will not fire. Fuel pump will not come on.

The radio gets struck on a channel. It will not turn off or switch to satellite radio. It occurs randomly when driving but continues even when car is stopped. It will just randomly start functioning properly. No pattern.

My 2007 accura Tl has a battery drain problem. I have a new interstate battery in it. I park it on our driveway and after 3-5 days of it being parked, not driven, the new battery is drained of power and will not start the vehicle. I have to charge the battery. It starts and will continue to start as long as I drive it to re-charge the battery. This occurs very consistently and has for the past year, on and off.

I purchased this vehicle from the oringinal owner 11-17. He didnt inform me of any problems with the vehicle. Three days after purchase I had a dead battery. Then I noticed the speedometer and tach would stop working when I was driving, also the vsa warning light would come on when I was driving. I searched on line and found that there was many complaints about my same problems, and that the dealer was no help at all. I tried disconnecting the hands free link, but I still had a dead battery the next day. The only solution I have found is to disconnect my battery every day when I come home. I replaced the battery in Jan. 2018. There are also receipts in the vehicle from the origanal owner for the same problems.

Lost power steering while driving. Also at the same time tire pressure monitoring system lit up saying tires were low, when checked the tires were at proper pressure.

Went to turn on windshield wipers and they won't wipe neither will the fluid. Tried with the vehicle parked and in motion.

I was driving around 40mph and all of sudden the "eletronic power steering system" light went on. I was not able to steer at all. I had to use all my energy along with body weight to pull the steering wheel to the right so that I could park along the curb. I almost got hit by another vehicle because this happened when I was trying to change lane. I took to the dealer and they took me the diagnostic code 32-09 (power steering module failure). They quoted me $900. Very expensive. This is a very serious issue and well known issue with Honda and Acura. It can be life threaten issue to some people.

The contact owns a 1999 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was taken to various independent mechanics who had provided several repair solutions but they did not repair the condition. The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The contact was not made aware and did not receive notification of NHTSA campaign number: 03v423000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My car shuts off while driving. It puts my children and myself at risk. It has happened numerous times.
