36 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/14/2015

Purchased a used lease vehicle in 2014, 63,000 miles on it. Looked like a creampuff. Carfax was clean. Used oil excessively. Was told by local dealer I could not get car fixed per class action settlement because I was not original owner or did not have all service records. Car has now had an intake valve failure in cylinder 3 while driving on highway at normal speed. Possibly caused by defective piston rings breaking. 101,000 miles and just out of extended warranty I purchased for $2500 extra. Car is not drivable and stuck 3 hours from my home. Audi of America says car was "fixed" in 2012 and will not release maintenance records, citing privacy of previous owner, a corporate lease. Audi dealer in melbourne FL who did the repair in 2012 will not release records so I do not know what was fixed and what parts were used. Total runaround by Audi of America and Audi of melbourne. I don't have $7000 for repair, and, still make payments on car for 2 more years . A car I can't drive, for work. All 5 million vehicles from 2009, 2010 and 2011 with defective pistons and rings need to be recalled and fixed. Excessive oil consumption also compromises catalytic converter performance, and life. That's another $1200-$1700 to get replaced. Audi care is a joke. Their arrogance is astounding.

37 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Vehicle stalled out and started shaking only to find out injectors went out and oil consumption issues. Audi USA is prolonging an issue that they know is wrong with the vehicle regarding oil consumption. I have completed phase I of the test and took it to dealership to have phase ii completed however without my consent or knowledge Audi has the dealership perform phase I over again. Car is eating excessive amount of oil but yet Audi USA is prolonging the situation with no resolution. Purchased the car 08/24/2015 had to have an oil change done two weeks later beginning of September by October 15th I had to add more oil as the oil indicator light came on come to find out there is a known issue for consuming oil. I have phase I completed however I took vehicle in to have phase ii done on it only to be told they had to do phase I over which isn't fair the vehicle still eats oil and value is depreciating drastically because of Audi and Volkswagen epa violations.

39 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/05/2015

This car has been a nightmare . . After basically having the engine rebuilt due to an oil consumption lawsuit that had been an ongoing problem since 19,000 miles and just been bandaided up with excuses from the dealership, but now the vibrations are blamed on the motor mounts. Will the crap just ever end? or will I fix the mounts and we can point the finger at something else. It just seems like there is no end. . Personally this car should have been recalled with all the issues- something just didn't happen for them in 2009 apparently. The motor mounts should have never gone bad in this vehicle at this point being the high end car they claim to manufacture. . I would love my car if it ran correctly- and since 19,000 miles it hasn't - that is sad. I know what this company is capable of . . And this is just bs.

40 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

The failure recurred after approximately 250 miles. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the vehicle was burning an excessive amount of oil and the rings and valves of the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

41 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

Add oil warning light on. The car tells me to add 1 quarts oil every 200-300 miles. Car has a known excessive oil consumption issue because Audi made bad batch of piston rings on engine code cae and they refuse to admit it. Class action lawsuit was filed against them and was settled in sept 2014 and now its time for a recall on this issue.

42 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

I picked up my Audi A4 a few weeks ago left the dealer went about five miles and the car starts miss firing bring it back for a new coil pack, one week later oil light came on low oil not even 700 miles and add one 16 oz of oil so started to park car in garage oil on garage floor lots of oil so far not very happy with the car. Bringing it to Audi repair shop they said they will look for the leak. I should have come here first to see, what I see now I would not have brought something other then Audi now waiting to see if it burns or consumes any oil if so should I call the Audi dealer. I paid 9,850. 00$.

43 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

This past fall, Audi replaced my pistons and rings due to a failed oil consumption test. My car would require oil after about 250 miles. Within a week of changing the oil at Audi I received a warning light. Audi at that time decided to replace my pistons and rings. On 12/29 while driving on the highway my car starting rattling very loud and I wasn't able to accelerate. All of a sudden my car stopped running, gray smoke came out of the rear tailpipe and my car turned off. I managed to get over to the shoulder and it looked as if oil has leaked all over the right tire by the passenger side. I had the car towed back to Audi for service. They are now telling me it will cost $5000 to fix the car. I feel the since they last worked on the engine they should be responsible for the damage to my car.

44 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

When I drive my car with the headlights on one randomly turns off and then I get a display in the dash that's says "left headlight dipped" this also happens to the right side. I have to turn the nob kn the dashboard on the off position and turn them back on the on position and they start working again. This is ridiculous and unsafe. Please help. Also my engine is burning oil very fast I just had an oil change and drove the car for 80 miles and the dip stick already shows half way full. I had the head gasket and vacuum pump gasket replaced but it still hasn't fixed the problem.

45 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

I have an 2010 Audi A4. The vehicle stalled on the highway while driving at 60 mph. The oil light went from yellow to red and the car. I had just put oil in the vehicle before leaving that morning, and the vehicle is not leaking oil. I have complained to the dealer and manufacturer about the oil consumption problem which is a well known problem with the 2008-2012 A4 and a5 models, but the claim it is not a safety issue and have refused to fix the problem.

46 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Since hitting 100k miles, burning unusually high amounts of oil. Every 700 miles have to add 1 qt?? mileage is now at 107k and not sure where oil is going.

47 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 02/08/2014

I owned the 2009 Audi A4 quattor. My car has a serious oil consumption problem around 350 miles per qt. I did a lot of research online. Also, when I type Audi A4 2009, then I can find a lot of people are talking about the oil consumption problem. And I did research from my friends who own the A4 and ask about some information. I know many, many the same issues also in china, taiwan, german and USA. Therefore, I cannot understand why this car did not recall!!! or help us who owned the A4. I got some information from two different car shop. The data shows Audi A4 and s5 between 2009-2011 have a lot of issue about the oil consumption problem in the USA. I know the car is not recall, but is there any way can help the Audi owner to keep this car?.

48 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

This Audi and many others suffer from excessive oil consumption. About 1 quart synthetic oil is used/lost every 1000-2000 miles.

49 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

The oil was changed at 70,000 miles. The oil light came on twice after less than 2,000 miles. I added oil the first time, and it's on again after less than a week. I checked a few forums on line and other owners have experienced the same thing. The car is not leaking oil, so I'm figuring the engine must be burning oil. A few mechanics I've spoken to have said that some Audi A4's have been recalled for this problem.

50 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

I purchased my Audi 2009 A4 quattro in oct. 2012. After only one month I had to take it back to the dealer ship to fix. They spend over $2,000 in repairs trying to get the oil consumption down. I continued to have problems with it for the next two years. I have since spent over $6,000 to try and repair the oil consumption problem. Due to the financial situations I have still not been able to get the oil consumption problem resolved. On my last trip to the mechanic my oil consumption went from 300 miles per quart of oil to now only 100 miles per quart of oil. This is a known issue all over the united states and yet when I contact Audi they say it is normal wear and tear. Audi should be help accountable for selling faulty vehicles and avoiding a recall to try and save their name and their profits. I have many problems with the vehicle cutting out or not producing full power. At times it will seize or not start at all.

51 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

From day one in August 2013 when I bought this car it burns oil at an extreme rate. A quart every 500 - 800 miles. It calls for synthetic oil by castrol which is close to $10. 00 a quart. Do the math. The car manufacture say that is with in the specs for how engine was built. This is truly highway robbery and Audi should be held responsible. I went on Audi forums and thousands of people in the u. S. And the u. K. Complain of the same problem. Please do something about it. I as 50 years old and been paying taxes for 35 years. Working since I was 15 years old. Stand up and do something for a agency that was put in place to do so. I would greatly appreciate it. I look forward to your response.

52 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Excessive oil consumption a quart every 1000 miles or less.

53 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/22/2013

Engine burned excessive oil and was still under warranty. During the servicing in August 2013, was informed that this is normal oil consumption. About 2qts between servicing. I also informed that I occasionally smelled burning oil and advised the tech to look for leaks. Was told no problem found. After the warranty expired in 2013, took it for servicing in 08/01/2014 and dealer informs that cam seal is leaking and is a $1000 fix. This time I was told that I may smell burning oil!! my car at present has less than 22,000 miles! I have noticed the other people bring up the issue of excessive oil consumption and the service dept provides a bogus answer. I believe NHTSA should compel Audi to fix issues on defective designs regardless of mileage or warranty. It is highly unethical to charge customer for thousands for a known defect and that too right the year after the warranty has expired. I believe the dealership hid the cam leak to avoid the cost to Audi during the warranty period. I appreciate any help regarding this issue. Regards, sivasis.

54 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

Bought the car used from a dealership that inspected the car for any defects. While test driving the car, I had to return the car to the dealership for repairs. The cars fuel pump was failing and causing excessive misfires. Then about two months after driving the car, it began to use oil excessively. I checked for any leaks and found none. I contacted the dealership and was informed that anything less than 1qt per 1000 miles was considered normal under Audi standards. Personally I don't agree! now approximately 20000 miles later and 8 months, it burns a qt of oil every 300 miles. I know this is excessive as I can now see and smell oil from the exhaust. I contacted Audi for a resolution since there are numerous complaints about the excessive oil but as expected, since I did not buy the vehicle from an authorized reseller, it couldn't be covered. If the engineers at Audi know some of the cars produced with the 2. 0 turbo engine were assembled with pistons and rings that were too small, why hasn't a mass recall been issued to resolve the issue? I would like this issue to be resolved before something more catastrophic occurs.

55 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/11/2013

Car brought in for misfire condition that resulted in power reduction/hesitation while driving. Dealer detected faulty injector. Replaced injector and engine was still malfunctioning. Dealer then removed cylinder and observed piston ringland damage. Vehicle was starting to exhibit excessive oil consumption problems. Either faulty injector or piston ring defect is suspected to cause damage. Looking into remedies through arbitration or other means as Audi is aware about (I. E. Undersized rings / pistons). I will retain all suspect parts as Audi will not honor under warranty terms and independent shop will be performing repairs, and can be made available for further investigation. Excessive oil consumption is a known issue with Audi USA. The manual states that normal consumption is up to 1 quart for every 1000 miles. Per Audi's recommendations, you will burn 10 quarts of oil before you need an oil change. That engine holds 5 quarts when not leaking it through rings, reducing anti-knock rating of fuel during combustion. I believe this a significant safety hazard as engine seizing could unexpectedly occur due to defective components. I believe a class action lawsuit is inevitable.

56 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/30/2012

The car burns 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. Its a well known issue with the 2009 A4 2. 0t millions of people are burning gallons of oil in these cars. Its a shame that Audi is sweeping this issue under the rug. These cars need recalled.

57 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

I have obtained this car as a used car. Engine oil was changed one week after I have the car at a mechanic shop. Three weeks (about 500miles driving) later, a low engine oil alarm sounded. I brought the car back to the same mechanic shop and add a quart of oil to the engine. A couple weeks later, I was driving the car to a road trip. The low oil alarm sounded again. This was in the middle of my road trip when I was driving in the highway (about 500miles since last oil addition) at about 75mph. I have to get off the high way right away and went to a local mechanic shop to top off the oil. I was told by a mechanic that this is dangerous because if I couldn?t find a mechanic shop in time to add more engine oil, the engine would have been overheated, locked, and forced to stop right away. Under this scenario, a serious collision with the cars behind or next to me might be caused if driving on the highway. Upon research, it was discovered that this abnormal amount of engine oil consumption has been a common problem/complaint in this model of car due to the defects in the piston rings. In most cases, the piston rings were replaced under the manufacturer warranty. My car is just out of warranty with 57k miles on it. The dealer should be responsible fixing this problem as it is a serious safety problem and it was defected from the manufacturer.

58 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/18/2012

Used oil, 1 quart per 450 miles. It was determined that the piston rings needed to be replaced. It is leaking and burning oil car is 3. 5 years old 72k miles. I was told and from what I've read this is a common theme with this car.

59 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/25/2011

Hello. This model of Audi A4 2. 0t 2011 hase a big problem with oil consumption which I think is a thing that the NHTSA needs to look in to. For example : I drive the car 500 miles and the oil light comes up and is asking for 1qt of oil which I think is absolutely not normal . Ive change the oil in October and in 2 months December I use 5qt of oil to refill or to add on because the oil light was turning on . Ive took the car to Audi and did a full inspection to see if I'm losing any oil anywhere and the result was negative. I've herd that my model Audi A4 2. 0t 2011 had a problem with the pistons rings or something like that and because of that he oil consumption was very high. But just on some Audi A4 2. 0t 2011 models not all . I think and I can prove that my care has this issue and needs to be reccal because the oil goes in the environment in the air which is a very big problem for the quality of the oxygen . I'm not saying that only my car but if you google my model you will be shocked of how many people are complaining about the oil consumption on Audi A4 2. 0t 2011.

60 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

I recently purchased a 2008 Audi A4 2. 0 with approximately 37,000 miles on it. I've driven the car less than 3000 miles and had to add 1 quart of oil every month of ownership (3). Audi dealership says this is normal. Like the previous complaint listed on this topic, I too have see a number of blogs on the subject of the 2008 A4's having issues with excessive oil consumption. I've also seen mention of a technical service bulletin being issued by Audi on this but I've yet to find it.

61 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

I purchased the A4 used with only 19k miles on it. I noticed that after driving 1,000 miles, 1 quart of oil was gone. I filled it back up and drove another 1,000 miles. The same thing. I have a family relative who owns a vw passat with the same engine and her car burned oil too. Audi says that this is a common problem and that it's something the owner will have to get used to. This is not normal, something is wrong with the engines. There are so many forums and sites dedicated to the vw/Audi 2. 0t engines consuming oil.

62 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

After having my car for a year, it started to burn through oil at an increasing rate. Currently it is going through about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have taken the car in a few times to check for leaks or try to determine the location where it is going and have just been told that this model engine goes through at a faster pace and has been a common complaint amongst customers. In addition to this I have dealt with having to get the sunroof re-lubricated every few months, dealing with rattles in the doors, warping of the interior (dash, door panels, seat backs), and a one-time failure with the door latch not working during cold temperatures.

63 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Audi A4. While driving approximately 30 mph the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where she was informed that the vehicle was burning oil very fast. She was also informed that this was a normal occurrence for this type of vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired but she was advised to check the oil every 300 miles. The failure and current mileages were 4,800. The VIN was unavailable.

64 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

August 2010 at 30k miles, add oil light came on within 2,000 miles of last oil change. Took it into the dealership, they fixed pressure regulating valve. Add oil light continues to come on between oil changes, approx 1k to 3k miles. Dealership stated it was normal for that yr/model. May 2013 at 69k miles, white foul smelling smoke comes from exhaust upon acceleration and car drives rough. Happens intermittently. Dealership states no codes or problems upon test driving. June 2013 it happens again and this time needs to be towed. Dealer fixes fuel injectors. August 2013 happens again on numerous occasions. Dealer does oil consumption test. Fails test. Sept 2013 dealership replaces piston rings and cylinder head. Add oil light continues to come on and white smoke and shaking intermittently. Oct 2013 take back to dealership. They replace turbo. All of the above services done at no charge due to extended service contract. Dec 2013 it happens again. Dealership finds another leak in the valves. Dealership now wants to charge me 50% of repairs although problem started before warranty expired. Currently car is not repaired. It is driveable but continues to need oil every 1k miles or so and intermittently produces white smoke and shakes.

65 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

This Audi was a lemon from the start and botched repairs at the dealer have only made it worse. One the 2nd day we owned the car the oil light came on and we had to return it to the dealer for more oil. Over the next 2 years the car burned an excessive amount of oil starting at 1 qrt every 2500 miles and deteriorating to 1 qrt every 800 miles. All along the dealer told us this was "normal". In may 2011, dealer told us that Audi had initiated a testing program and if the car failed they would do something. In June 2011, the car failed test and the dealer kept the car for 3+ weeks conducting major engine surgery. 6000 miles later we took the car in for routine maintenance and they said they wanted to do routine warranty work. In the course of this work, they destroyed the timing chain and pistons of the car. 1 week later the transmission failed. In talking to Audi technicians at other dealers (off the record) they say that the oil problem is a design problem and that the fixes are simply bandaids. Appears that the 2012 model has been redesigned to fix the engine flaw. The net effect is that the car has visited the Audi dealer on at least a monthly basis since we bought it and has spend more than 8 weeks in major "warranty related" engine repairs. To top it off, Audi has complimented this "worst in class" product experience with a "worst in class" customer service experience as Audi America 1-800 people have been consistently either robotic or rude in talking with us about this issue. Most recently, they made a lame offer to reimburse us for towing expenses and extend the warranty on this dubious car for another 12 months. Amazingly, they refuse to pu t the offer in writing until after acceptance. Presumably so that they can avoid legal issues. Please help. I am sure I'm not the only one suffering this.

66 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

I have an Audi A4 2008 that has a long standing oil consumption problem. The Audi dealership in las vegas assures me it is normal for the Audi turbo engines to require additional oil 'top offs' between the regular oil change intervals. I have owned several other (non Audi) turbo engine automobiles, and I know this is not 'normal'. I have read many online forums on this topic, where the Audi A4 owner was eventually informed the engine seals were bad, causing the oil consumption problem, but Audi would not cover any costs to repair such on the 2008 A4 model. This vehicle has always used synthetic oil, which should only need oil replacing twice a year. But every 4 weeks the 'low oil' dashboard light illuminates, and I need to add another quart or two quarts. There is an Audi design flaw on the A4 engine, otherwise it would not be burning through excessive oil the way it does.

67 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/11/2009

Excessive oil consumption.

68 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/17/2009

Since I got the car, A4 cabriolet 2. 0t, I've been adding oil approximately every 3000 miles. The dealer was courteous, and ran the oil consumption test when it's around 9000 miles. They advised it's within the normal range, and I should see improvement. Well, it's now 21k miles, and I am still adding oil every 3000 miles. The maintenance guide said to change oil every 10k after the initial oil change, but never mention the need to add oil every 2-3 month. How is it normal? I talked to other Audi owner, and no one ever had to add oil before scheduled oil changes. I decided to file this complaint after I saw other complaints w/ the same the issue on the mycarstats. Com.

69 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

Since we leased our 08 Audi A4 quattro 2. 0t we have had issues with the car seeming to loose power and jerk usually when driving between 60 and 70mph. We have complained to the dealer and they have replaced or repaired the following under warranty: two diverter valves (first at 500 miles and the second at 1200 miles) the car would shake violently when cold as if running on 2cyl, removed an air filter pre-screen (at 5000 miles scheduled service), replaced the turbo charger and battery power cable (8500 miles). Un-fortunately the vehicle continues with the problem at 13,880 miles. Additionally, the vehicle consumes oil and now only gives us 15-17mpg in the city, which we have been told are both normal by maplewood Audi. I can say that if we had know about the vehicles oil consumption, poor fuel mileage (especially for a 4cyl engine) and the engine jerk we would have never leased this vehicle.

70 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Purchased 2008 Audi A4 new from dealership in October 2007. Two months after purchase, notice oil consumption problem at 1qt every 1,000 miles. Dealership says this is normal but my mechanic said it is not. With the help of a pro-bono attorney, contacted Audi and demanded repair at 12,000 miles. Audi replaced rings and car was fine for 24,000 miles. At 36,000 miles, low oil light came on - 1 qt low again. Had oil changed by my mechanic and two days later a new problem - low oil pressure light comes on. Had car towed to dealership and they found nothing wrong with car (no codes, drives fine). I demand through Audi an oil pressure test. Test came back normal. They told me to drive the car and that there is nothing wrong with it. The low oil pressure light is still coming on every 20 minutes of driving. The car goes back in the shop again this week. Car is obviously defective and I am concerned about major engine damage.
