Gasoline Engine Problems of Audi A4

Audi of America denied a warranty on their recall for oil sludge problem (Audi leter in file), to all 1. 8 t engines, arguing no service was provide on the 13000 miles warranty period. At that time the vehicle was an Audi's property & car was in the Audi's dealer for service on the 13,023 miles. Maybe negligence for servicing or nor recorded but previously driver was an Audi executive getting paid for test & miles. Title indicates Audi's first owner selling with 26,103 miles when we purchased the car. Records in our file and car just been fixed on our cost. Thanks for your replay. Pedro.

I purchased an 2003 Audi A4 1. 8 t pre-owned at 26k miles in oct 2004. I have brought the vehicle in for regular schedule maintenance at 30, 40 and 50k at roger beasley Audi in austin, TX. On Jan 16, 2006 , at 55450 miles, engine started knocking and oil warning light came on. I had the vehicle towed to dealership which turned out to be sludge problem and estimate for repair is $2500. I was made aware about the extended warranty of 8 yrs for sludge issue Audi and vw had issue back in 2004 but dealer would not repair the issue under warranty since there's no record of oil change at 20k. Since I purchased the vehicle pre-owned, I'm unable to provide any oil change documentation for 20k service. To sum this all up, there's a record of oil changes during 10k (previous owner got service done at a dealership), 30k, 40k and 50k maintenance. I have contacted Audi customer relation dept w/o any success. If I pay this repair out of pocket, I'm afraid there might be other issue relating to this after engine is clean out of all sludge. With many consumers out there with the same dilemma, I think Audi should step up and take care of the repair. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

We have experienced an oil sludge related failure on our 1997 Audi A4. Ingrid evert, from the office of Audi of America's mark trahan, has told me that my car will not be covered by their extended warranty, despite the fact that my car is within the VIN range affected by what is, in her words, a "manufacturing defect". Her reason for refusal is the fact that I change my own oil and thus lack receipts. So, although my car is within the affected VIN range, and I have performed all oil changes in excess of the manufacturer's recommendations, and many owners are experiencing this failure regardless of the maintenance performed on the car, my car is not covered.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the vehicle will shut off causing consumer to pull over and it will be hard to get the vehicle back started. Dealer notified. Nlm.

Dealer says virtually all their 6cyl cars have this fail - repair was $850.

August of 2001 the car broke down and was towed to an Audi dealer. That dealer informed us that the engine siezed and he would need approval from Audi of America to perform the repair under warrenty. Audi of America's representative took several weeks to return a decision not to honor the warranty because we had our oil changes at independant service stations instead of Audi dealerships. We attempted to contact that representative but we were not allowed to speak with him nor would they release his name. We attempted to speak with his supervisor, but Audi of America told us there was no supervisor, that representative was the final decision, and there was no appeals process. We were given the name of the vice president after many attempts to appeal the decision, but were not allowed to speak to him. We wrote him a letter which was never returned. We have filed a law suit against Audi of America and two of the dealerships. Dt.

Plaza motors has ignored complaints. Am now using parktown. Better, but am ready to get rid of car because problems are persisting. Do not feel that Audi even cares. No safety defect mentioned in the summary.
