Audi A4 owners have reported 4 problems related to radiator (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Audi A4 based on all problems reported for the A4.
The water/coolant pump has failed 3 times in the past 12 months leaving the vehicle disabled on the side of the road after overheating. Each time, it is the same issue where the way this pump was cast has an internal failure that causes the connection port to radiator tubing to pull apart and the gasket overheats and fails. Audi certified dealer service have told me it is an engineering flaw which Audi fails to recognize and redesign for a recall despite seeing countless other A4's with the same complaint from this body style year. Each time, vehicle is running on a highway. This first happened in 2017 at 52,000 miles and most recently happened August 13,2018 at 84000 miles. The second event happened may 2018 with 69000 miles.

Audi A4, 2006 convertible : after driving the car 12 miles in stop and go traffic on a 2 lane street I noticed smoke coming from under the hood, not a lot. No warning lights on the dash. Temp outside was 75. So I drove another 2 miles, then I saw a lot of smoke coming from under the hood - I turned on the turn signal to get into the other lane and then the coolant low sign came on the dash. Then a lot more smoke. After letting the car cool in a parking lot, I added the coolant/water mix as called for in the service book ( had the staff at oreilly auto parts look up the correct coolant). As soon as I started the engine all the coolant ran out. I called the tow company to tow the car to the service station. It appears to be a cracked valve. Also 3 radiator hoses all need to be replaced. The car just had a full tune up 2 months earlier.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Audi A4. The contact stated that they smelt a sweet burning smell for two years in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and it was always said that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle the radiator blew. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and it was found that a plastic piece broke on the radiator that allow anti freeze to leak into the vehicle and caused the sweet burning smell. The vehicle had been repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 104,000. Rl.
