BMW 328 owners have reported 5 problems related to manifold/header/muffler/tail pipe (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2014, 328d x-drive. I'm the original owner. I have taken my car into the dealer several times for a engine light and the smell of exhaust fumes when I start the car. The exhaust fumes are very bad. If I start it with the air system at off I will not get it. This is only at a stand still and the worst when the cars started. The dealer has done over $4000 in repairs and have replaced many fuel injectors. One of the repairs the manifold melted to the fuel injectors and they replaced all. I'm still getting the fumes. Very disappointed BMW customer service is horrible. They only tell me to see my dealer. They say they will start a report. Nothing has been done and I'm stuck with a car I like very much but need help getting exhaust from entering the cabin from the engine area.

Pvc valve over heated and sprayed oil on exhaust manifold. Received recall notice from BMW to get it fixed but dealer informs me no parts are available and no idea when parts will be available. BMW advises not to drive car with damaged pvc valve. Still driving car as it is the only car I have. Please ask BMW to supply dealers with parts to fix this issue.

The contact owns a 2011 BMW 328i. While driving 70 mph, the contact noticed white smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle and a burning odor emitted through the vents. Also, the engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and noticed smoke coming from the muffler. The contact resumed driving. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Valve cover gasket leaks oil on exhaust manifold creating burning smell inside the passenger cabin. This creates a fire hazard with oil on hot exhaust manifold. When starting car in the morning is when the smell is the strongest and last throughout the drive. This is a dangerous problem and should be recalled. Parking vehicle in garage can burn house down if oil causes fire!.

I have had numerous problems with over heating. Every time I have taken it to the dealer for this problem they have found multiple leaks and the manifold cracked (not diagnosed in one visit these were found after multiple visits). It still does it and now they claim they cannot find anything. They want proof that this is actually happening so I am going to film it when it happens to me again. The incident that happened on 12/31/13, I was driving on a road to get to a resort, this road was not elevated in anyway it was level. It happens every month or so.
