Air Bag Light On Problems of BMW 330 - part 2

Airbag lights and restraint lights became lit. Dealer said it was a faulty passenger side seat sensor mat. Already has had a recall on some of the models. Needs to be extended to other vehicles.

Airbag light has came on and off and now stays on due to a crack in the map on the passenger seat. My VIN does not fit the recall on the exact thing for other vehicles.

The passenger seat occupancy detector has been causing the airbag light to stay on. There are other vehicles - same model and same year that had this same part recalled (oc3 continental seat occupancy detector). I think that this part should be recalled across the board instead of claiming that it only affects a very specific number of cars.

My BMW 2006 330i has a defect in the passenger air bag. Whether someone is in the passenger seat or not, the passenger air bag light turns on indicating that the air bag is turned off. There was a recall on 2006 BMW 3 series (and other series) for this exact problem, but BMW states that my particular vehicle is not covered. It is the exact same problem that the recall was for, so I do not understand how it was not included in the recall of 2007/2008.

About June 1, 2011, my 2006 BMW 330i (sport seats) had a red airbag light illuminate. I took the car to the local BMW dealership and was told it would cost me a couple hundred dollars to diagnose the problem. The service manager asked if I recently changed batteries and I said that I did. He said sometimes the airbag light comes on if the battery wasn't installed properly. In 2014, I did some research and found that BMW knew of a problem with airbags in their 2006 330i vehicles- especially those with sport seats. The report I read stated that there would be a voluntary recall by the end of 2014. I contacted BMW and they confirmed, by email, there would be a recall for specific 2006 330i vehicles with sport seats. Upon checking a recall website, my vehicle was not included in the recall despite the fact that my vehicle suffers from the problem that initiated the recall. BMW knows they have a problem with airbags in certain vehicles, they should be required to recall all of them.

The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 13v564000 (air bags). However, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer after reading online NHTSA recall campaign id number 08v384000 (air bags: frontal), but was told that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 58,600 and the current mileage was 65,000.

The contact owns a 2006 BMW 330xi. The contact stated that the air bag light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was located at the passenger front sensor mat. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 08v384000 (air bags:frontal) and denied assistance with the repair. I purchased this BMW new from the dealer around June 2006 (please note the mileage is an estimate) I'm writing to request an investigation into my car relating to the a potential faulty passenger airbag sensor. The passenger indicator light for "passenger airbag off" is activated despite a passenger being in the car. Over the years, the light randomly activated when a passenger sat in the seat. However, it would turn off at times so I presumed I had hit a button on the car steering column for a children's seat which caused the light to activate or something else perhaps. Because I rarely had passengers, I didn't pay attention. The light would did not stay lit for months on end. However, now the "passenger airbag off" light remains activated all the time which caused me to investigate. This is not normal wear and tear. I see there is a recall for 2006 3 series BMW models and more for this problem. Specifically, my car is a 2006 330i BMW with sport seats. I have called the BMW dealer, and BMW north America, but they only check the VIN database and to date have not investigated further. However, I have alerted them that it appears BMW may have failed to recall a number of affected vehicles given the many complaints I reviewed posted on the web by 2006 BMW 330i owners who have the same problem with their vehicles airbag deactivating, but received no assistance from BMW. One owner stated he had (at his own expense) replaced the (defective) installation/part, (the part he removed was the same one as the one under recall by BMW), but BMW like with the other 2006 330i owners will not bear the replacement cost because his VIN was not included on the list. Please assist with identifying the additional 2006 330i Bmws that were affected by what seemingly is a defective design/component. Thank you, see NHTSA action number: ea08001.

The contact owns a 2003 BMW 330i. The contact stated that the passenger seat air bag sensor causes the air bag indicator to illuminate. The illumination occurs whenever someone is seated in the passenger seat. The indicator remains lit even if no one is in the passenger seat. The dealer stated that the warranty was expired and the contact would be responsible for the repair costs. The failure mileage was 59,000.

From the time I bought the car new in early 2003, the air bag sensor light remained on indefinitely. The BMW dealer turned the alert light off several times, and did not fix the underlying problem, indicating that it was only the sensor and that the airbag was working. The light continues to remain on. After several visits to murray BMW in denver the problem was not fixed and the dealership merely turned the alert light off indicating there was nothing wrong, and not repairing the problem. At that time the warranty expired and the repair was never made. Now the air bag light is still on and the dealership will not take care of the issue with the sensor. When the airbag recall was performed, the air bag light still remained on, and the dealership indicated that the replacement of the airbag was not related to the air bag sensor. This is not acceptable when purchasing a brand new vehicle!.
