Air Bag Problems of Cadillac Deville - part 1

The contact owns a 2002 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated that while driving approximately 7 mph and making a left turn, the vehicle suddenly shut off, causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into a tree. During the crash, the vehicle sustained front-end damage, but no air bag had deployed. No injuries were reported, and no police report was taken. The vehicle was later towed to a local dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch had failed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was associated with NHTSA campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 80,000.

As I was pulling off from a stop sign, passenger and driver airbags deployed unexpectedly with no reason causing the front windshield to shatter and leaving the steering wheel busted open along side passenger dash. Also leaving me with burns, scratches on my chin and small shards of glass in my face and forearms.

My car was parked in my garage when the horn sounded extremely loud and would not stop I could not stop it so I took it to shop. The dealer says that airbag shorted out and shorted out the horn. They want to replace airbag and horn at a cost of $1109 was this airbag recalled?.

Well I notice that some time the key works and some time it dont. The seat belt get stuck some time and I just foynd out the car had recalls.

Takata air bag, do not know if that item is in my car but they say it is. Also like so many northstar engines there is trouble with the head gasket, and according to the hydrocarbon block test, mine must be replaced. In order to replace it, the engine and power train must be removed, at my expense. Due to this issue, my car continues to try and overheat after about 29 miles of driving. After listening to those folks on the Cadillac forum, I have been lead to believe, the overheating issue may be, partly the fault of the fine thread head bolts and or studs. Many mechanics I have spoken with have said that I need a new engine, although the folks on the Cadillac fourm have said that time-serts, or the larger studs/bolts might fix the issue. Never the less, with each Cadillac Deville dhs with the northstar engine I read about, the same issue exists for almost all of them, which indicates to me that there was an issue in the original design of possibly not using a large enough bolt/stud to begin with. Either that or Cadillac may have had a planned obsolescence type thing to get the drivers to keep replacing their automobiles. And they say recalls are not covering this design flaw. . . .

Car was hit in back while stopped in construction zone on us 75 south of durant oklahoma and knocked into car stopped in front. Air bags did not inflate.

I got into my car at work to go to a business. I inserted the key and started the car and the air bags in the steering wheel and the passenger side of the dash deployed breaking the dash and the windshield. The car was stationary and parked in my company's parking lot.

I was hit head-on. The ignition turned off after being hit and the seat- belts did not deploy. I stopped and my hand was on the horn but the person did not slow down or stop. I was on a city street. I was hurt and had neck surgery. Gm is telling me they will look back into it after denial that was it due to the recall. They sold the car as salvage when the insurance totaled it. The car was then sold with a salvage title. They replaced the ignition after telling me my accident injuries was not due to the recall.

We were leaving my son's apartment when we hit the speed bump at about 5 miles an hour the air bags deployed and busted out our wind shield and filled the car with smoke. My fiancã© was driving the car and had his thumb hurt. Several of the electrical things in the car do not work now.

I was not really sure what to put in the affected parts area but during my crash the air bags did not go off.

I was traveling south on highway 385 when a deer flew out in front of me. We hit head on destroying the whole front end of my car. I would like to know why the air bags did not go off if that deer would have flown up on the hood and came through the windshield it could have killed me. The air bag could have saved my life. Why did it not deploy.

Engine began to leak oil after 40000 miles. The company and dealership assured me this was normal. Longer I operated this car, more it began to leak. At first few drops, then later, 1-2 qts between oil changes. Today, it is worst. I have spent several thousand dollars related to this engine. The leaks continue to this date. Engine stopped once on me, shut off, nothing worked. No airbag, any electrical service. Hit hole in road and everything shut off. Called company many times, wrote to president, other executives all to no avail. There are many Cadillac Devilles with same leaking problem, the northstar engine has this problem since 1998, on all their models. It is like the key, they will do nothing until made to correct it. I hope you follow through, this is not right and cause many problems with deep expenses for owners.

I was involved in a head on crash with my 2001 Cadillac dts. Neither the driver nor passenger airbag deployed.

Gm repaired the vehicle; however, the air bags continued to deploy for no apparent reason. There was one injury. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 177,040 and failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

$3440. 72 of repairs from Jan 05 to Aug 06, includes air bags, computer problems, electric windows, air conditioner,fuel pump,water pump,electric seat heater,etc. On a 2001 Cadillac dts with 60038 miles. All fixed by dealer and extended warranty. We paid #50. 00 deductible for each trip to service dept. 8 times since Jan 05. The complaint is regarding the number of times we have been without a vehicle and the numerous repairs on a car that is suppose to be well made, and of course is very expensive. We are selling this vehicle because it is not reliable and will have to withdraw several thousand dollars to make up the difference of the sale value and what we owe. We would be keeping the car until paid for if there had not been so many problems. This car is kept in a garage at all times,and we have it serviced every 3000 miles and have done this since we bought the car in Dec 2003. Airbags failed to open after engine died. Car went dead and steering brakes failed to operate properly. Seat became unlocked. I was jammed under steering wheel. Engine and car dead. Front end and rear end total, never received replacement. Insurer was geico, repaired at their recommended facility. Engine began to leak oil after 20000 miles car never operated correctly afterwards, traded it in after 6 months, for 2005 new cts. Same thing happened, engine shut off,. I traded for 2005 Cadillac Deville, in 2005.

While driving at 35mph on gravel road driver and passenger air bags deployed without warning.

When driving 75 mph driver's side air bag inadvertently deployed, causing consumer to pull over. Dealer has been notified.

Consumer stated while waiting for traffic to clear so he could proceed across the street, he was broadsided by another motorist at high speed and none of the airbags deployed. .

Recall 00 v 217 000 repaired on 09-Mar-2001. While driving srs light illuminated, and interior lights flashed on and off. Consumer had vehicle towed to dealer.

Was told by dealer I could park car until April 2001 when a recall would be issued or sign a waiver and have air bags disconnected.

Consumer will complet information form concerning air bags side recall. The dealer does not have the part to be replaced for manufacturer recall.
