car   Rear Seat Belt problem of Mazda RX8

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is JM1FE17324_. In the new Mazda Rx8, the rear seat design with the high center console makes it very hard to latch the seat belt with a child booster seat, and impossible to do so for an older person or a person without good manual dexterity and a strong back. It is completely impossible for the child to latch themselves in. Note that this is not a problem for attaching infant or child seats with seat belts installed in the seat itself - it's a problem for older children (30-80 lbs) that sit in a booster and use the 3 point seat belt installed in the car. I have contacted Mazda and recommended that they create a seat belt extender so that the belt latch can be raised up high enough to reach around the side of the car seat, and they said they would investigate, but there was no remedy in the forseen future. I have also shopped around for booster seats, and have yet to find a model that works in this car. It was 10/27/2003 when this rear seat belt issue occurred.

car   Rear Seat Belt problem of Mercedes Benz ML430

The car involved was a 2001 Mercedes Benz Ml430. This happened to one of my car pool buddies and I think should be of concern to everyone who drives a mercedes Ml430 and uses dog restraints that clip to the seat belts. He has 2 large labrador retrievers, the dogs were in the rear of the car (seats folded down and a bed of luggage) the dogs were clipped to the rear seatbelts using one the many products available for this purpose. These are big active dogs. After about 4 hours driving he heard one of the seat belts retracting a few hours later the other one did the same thing. When we investigated the problem, we noticed that the seat belt appeared to have been cleanly cut - not a single tooth mark (his first thought was the dogs chewed their way out). When we looked more closely at the car, the reason why this happened became clear - the ml seatbelts come out of a slot in the door pillar, the top of this slot is very sharp. The dogs are large and on top of baggage, so the seat belts were in contact with the top of the slot. After a few hours of wear, the belts were sliced clean through. Other cars in our carpool fleet have a different design, typically the seat belt emerges from the door pillar lower down and is guided over a roller at the top, because there are no sharp edges, this would not be a problem. What concerns me is that if the road trip had been shorter the belts could have been weakened by not sheared. In the event of an accident, they would have been ineffective. If they had failed it is unlikely that anyone would have been able to make a connection back to the dog restraints. The mercedes dealer was happy to take his money to replace the seat belt (as by carpool buddy put it, the repair cost him $200 a paw), but mercedes did not see this as a larger issue. I think that this could result in serious injuries or fatalities and is serious enough to warrant a recall. Thanks, ray. This rear seat belt issue occurred Jan. 10, 2004.

car   Rear Seat Belt problem of Buick Regal

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Buick Regal. (1) both rear seats safety belts did not operate; (2) unsafe condition for passengers in rear seat; and (3) took car to dealer. They told me it needed both new rear seat belt assemblies. Vehicle: 2000 Buick Regal LS VIN # 2g4wb52k0y1216362 I feel that this being a safety related problem, with a law in force that says you have to wear a seat belt should be something that should be taken care of by gm. I have had the vehicle since February 04, 2004 I was not aware of the problem, because no one has been in the back seat. If it would have been one rear seatbelt assembly, I probably would have paid to have it fixed, but the fact that both rear seat belt assemblies are completely locked up says to me that there must be some kind of defect, and I feel that this type of problem should be reported, and checked for similar complaints or malfunctions. The failure date was 11/26/2004.
