After the crash, I made sure everyone was ok, when I noticed that my daughter was not on the seat, she was on the floor of the van with her car seat on top of her, meaning that the seat belt did not work, it got loose. Thanks god she was fine, just very scared. On the other hand, my mother looked ok, just a big bump on the back of her head, she said, but when she tried to get out of the car, her knees were all bruised and soar. Trying to figure out why, we realized that her seatbelt was broken. The release red bottom was found on the floor, therefore we also realized that with the impact of the crash and the seat belt broken, she went further than she should have and bumped her knees with the dash board. The van is being completely repaired and I have the front and rear passenger seat belts. The failure date was Saturday, Sep. 1, 2007.

car   Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of Mitsubishi Montero Sport

The vehicle involved is a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Crash happened when the problem occurred. My son fell asleep while driving. He veered into the median and flipped 5 to 6 times. On first impact his seat belt released, therefore he was thrown up and down each time he flipped. On inspection of the seat belt, it was found that the red release button was ripped out of the receiver part of the seat belt. My son missed five days of work because of the accident. If his seat belt would have held up he might have missed only one day of work. The only lingering injury that he sustained was an injured tail bone that still bothers him. I contacted Mitsubishi the day after the wreck and explained to them what happened. The wreck happened on April 25, and it took Mitsubishi until September 13th to render a decision. They decided that external forces were applied by some undetermined object in the vehicle to the red release button at the top of the buckle. There was no way anything hit the red release button, because on initial impact my son was thrown to the top of the car. I do still have the vehicle, and it is tarped so nothing could happen to it. I would like to know if I need to keep it or sell it for parts. This issue happened on Tuesday, Apr. 25, 2006.

car   Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of Volkswagen Passat

The vehicle involved was a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. On the morning of February 25th, as I was leaving home and attempted to buckle the driver's side seatbelt on a 2003 Volkswagen Passat GLS. The latch did not hold the metal belt tongue. I drove directly to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased and left it for repairs. When arriving to pick up the vehicle late in the afternoon, I was advised the repairs were not completed due to the need to order a part, which was to arrive in 4-7 days. When asking for a replacement vehicle, the response was negative and they seemed unconcerned with the fact a critical safety feature was not operable. My home state, tennessee, has a law clearly requiring seatbelt use, and I am a firm believer in the ability of a seatbelt to reduce the portential of a critical injury or death. This is confirmed by your agency and by the owner's manual provided by Volkswagen. At this point, I am using the buckle on the passenger side, which caused the belt to ride just below my neck and obstructs my arm when shifts the manual transmission. It appears the seatbelt latch seriously lacks quality and is poorly constructed. Considering the latch has not been abused, has never been involved in a accident and there is no visible sign of external damage, it could easily be concluded to either poor workmanship or materials. In addition, considering this failure occurred under normal use and with limited miles (8,899) on the vehicle, it is alarming to consider what could have been the results if the failure became evident in an accident. This issue happened on Tue., Feb. 25, 2003.
