car   Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of Chevrolet Venture

The VIN of this vehicle is 1GNDX13E81_. Installing child safety seats in the Chevrolet Venture, warner bros edition, bucket seats. You can not safely install child safety seats with this type of seat belt latch. I have contacted the dealer who replaced the latch. It was no better. He even said, he felt it would be unsafe for his own child. I contacted GMC. They called today and said, there was nothing they could do. The irony is, this is a minivan marketed to families with children. It has the video player, cup holders and seat belt "adjusters" so the seat belts fit the kids correctly but you can not add a child car seat! I can guarantee someone will be killed or injured if they do not recall these seats. I told them that today, and they didn't seem to care. I also noticed another complaint regarding this. It should be seriously looked into. Dt.

The new safety buckle, the gen4 meets the industry standard. The gen3 belt should be recalled and replaced by the gen4 belt. My wife and I just bought a 2002 Chrysler Voyager that has the gen3 belts in the rear seats. Our first baby is due this June. We are very concerned that if our baby is in a child safety seat restrained by a gen3 belt, that it might come unlatched during an accident and injure or kill our baby. car   Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of SAAB 9000

The vehicle having this issue was a 1996 SAAB 9000. I reported this to you three weeks ago. . . Still don't see it in the complaints summary. However, since my report, SAAB USA tells me that this problem, front seat backs that have over 2 cm of free-play front to rear in them is common throughout their SAAB 9000 fleet. I believe these seats are dangerous in that they add to the forces inflicted on a driver in the event of an accident. Would you please let me know you received this report by sending me a return email (ken@wwisp. Com)? thanks. This problem occurred on Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997.

car   Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of SAAB 900

The car involved was a 1996 SAAB 900. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was YS3DD58B3T_. The complaint here is that a provided safety device, the seat belts, have inadequate webbing length to accomodate larger occupants. I have contacted SAAB's customer service center and was advised that while seat belt extenders were available for this model, the cost would be $250 each. We consider that cost-prohibitive to enable use of a manditory safety device. We have purchased other new and used vehicles for more than the last decade such as from gm and seat belt extenders were readily available at zero cost. I can entertain purchasing these extenders for a reasonable amount, such as $50/each, but $250/each is outrageous and quite frankly shouldn't be necessary as the belt webbing is quite short to begin with. SAAB's position as of this afternoon is they will offer $100 off on a pair of these belts. Still, $400 out of pocket to enable a manditory-to-use-by-state-and-federal-law safety feature in a car is absurd. SAAB's statement was we suggest you try out the car before you buy, and that something like this should tell us not to buy. That misses the whole point of why these safety belts were required in the first place. I am now going through a local reference obtained from the national mobility equipment center (thanks NHTSA for suggesting it!) and they are looking at alternate solutions which are expected to be less in cost. But the point here is why are vehicle manufacturers allowed to deny customers the effective use of manditory safety items because of exorbitant extra pricing, such as seat belt extenders at $250/each when the problem could be avoided simply be lengthing the seat belt webbing in the first place, at a likely cost of less than $10? I think that as a safety issue if nothing else, vehicle manufacturers must provide, at reasonble cost, whatever is necessary to enable use of manditory lawfully-required safety features if the "standard" is not comprehensive to cover customers. This problem occurred on Wednesday, June 9, 1999.

Saturn says their belts comply - the car seat manufacturer says says they comply and yet we don't have a safe way to install the two car seats we need for our girls. It is my understanding that a seat belt that comes out of the seat cannot safely be used with any car seat. I'm doing everything I can to ensure my children's safety, Saturn says it's not their problem.

car   Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of Jaguar Vanden Plas

The vehicle is a 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas. Right rear bracket that holds the drivers seat to the mounting track broke. This allowed the drivers seat to swing back on acceleration and swing forward, into steering wheel, when applying the brakes. The seat would swivel around on the three remaining attach points. This occurred during normal driving. If this had happened as a resujlt of a rear end collision, it is likely that the entire seat would have torn loose and become an unguided flying object in the car. Given that the seat belt is attached to the seat frame rather than the car's frame, it would have provided no protection. If the airbag were to have deployed, the force of it would also have knocked the seat, cocked at an angle and with the driver strapped in it, across the back of the car and into any passenger sitting back there. I have detailed photos on the broken bracket and the frame mounting from which it separated. The failure date was May. 18, 2005.

The car was a 1999 Jaguar Sedan Range. Crash was involved with this problem. The VIN of this vehicle is 1J4FY49S4X_. On 07-24-2000 I was forced to slam on my brakes to try to avoid hitting the rear end of a Chevrolet s-10 pickup truck . My anti-lock brakes locked up and I skidded about 20 feet before impacting the rear of the s-10 who had already hit a red van that slammed on brakes to avoid a dog. Upon impact, my air bags did not deploy. Both my passanger and I were wearing seatbelts. My passanger sustained whiplash and both legs were injured from underneath dash board. I also sustained whiplash to my neck and back. I reported the anti-lock brake and air-bags failures to daimler-Chrysler manufacture. I was told a safety inspector would contact me. He did. His name was don wade. He wanted me to drive the Jeep to a dealership but I told him he could come to my home as I was afraid to drive the vehicle as it was already a safety hazard from mechanical problems Chrysler refused to fix and now with the anti-lock brakes failing and air bags not deploying, I was afraid to put it on the road. I also told him I was afraid if I hit a bump or pothole in the road, the air bags would deploy since they didn't upon impact. He is supposed to call me again within the next two days and he was not very nice at all. Chrysler has already violated a mediation decision on this vehicle and now there are these safety issues as well. I do not trust daimler Chrysler, their dealerships, especially crossroads Jeep in indianapolis since they have already lied and refused to honor the mediator's supposedly binding decision on previous safety issue with this vehicle. The failure date was July 24, 2000.
