1 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 08/26/2005

I began having a situation where my anti-lock brake system would activate at slow speeds <10 mph such as when pulling into a parking space - this results in the vehicle going forward farther than it normally would - please note that I did not have any accidents. I took it to the dealer which indicated that it was a common problem and they may be able to clean the sensors of corrosion (they did note that the sensors are lightly built and could break requiring replacement during the cleaning process - which they did). I voiced my concern to gm via there customer service system that this failure occurred at 42000 miles on a safety related system (3 years from in service date - 6000 miles out of warrant). I clearly indicated that I felt this was a flaw on what I consider to be a critical component. As of this point - 1 week later - gm's only response was that my concern would be made known to the management of the company. No action to inform me of the recall that I have recently read about was made, nor was any action to cover the approximately $500 bill. Note that the recall that has been in the news did not mention chevy Astros which my vehicle is - however the problem sounds identical and my vehicle is a truck based gm vehicle with all wheel drive and antilock brakes - similiar to all the models mentioned in the recall.

2 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 05/21/2005

I have a 2000 Chevrolet Astro Mini van. At approximately 65000 miles, just after the warranty expired I started having two lights illuminate on instrument cluster. One is a red brake light , and the other is an amber abs light. I took vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer. They told me it was the brake control module which needed to be replaced at a cost of $1000. 00. Once the unit heats up and the lights come on the abs no longer works, and the brakes become jerky. Also the two lights blind you at night when you drive. The unit is on the outside of the car under the driver's seat next to the exhaust pipe. I told them they needed to fix it, and they refused, saying it was out of warranty. I told them that it was a design flaw because it was placed next to the exhaust. The individual at the dealer told me this was a common problem with gm trucks and vans. It was safety issue and gm refused to fix it.

3 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 12/31/2004

Comments: why did everyone miss the 1999 chevy Astro van with awd? I already had the front wheel bearings replaced (at my cost) earlier this year for the same problem!!! parts are no longer available, but local firestone garage performed the maintenance, and has the records of the service. Near-miss too many times at low speed stopping problems. Some one needs to include the chevy & GMC Mini-vans!!!.
