The first failure resulted in a crash into a fence. The second incident was a of couple months later, the driver drove through the garage door after applying the brakes and failing to stop the vehicle. The contact was unable to get out of the van at that time. The most recent incident occurred December 28, 2006 when the contact attempted to place the vehicle in reverse and the engine accelerated. The contact applied the brakes and the van didn't stop. The contact used a hydraulic jack, and when he started the car the wheels spun; however when he put the van back on the ground and applied the brakes there was no incident or failure in the brakes at that time. The contact stated the general motors manual , volume 1 of 2 gm-401 for the Astro and Mini van, page 5-4 under hydraulics list detailed information that could be related.

Brakes and steering failed simultaneously, resulting in a crash. GMC knows about the problem and will not fix it until enough people die. My family was almost killed. Anyone who has had a family member hurt or killed in a gm van should sue GMC.
Brakes have failed and been fixed 3 times. Each incident put myself and children in the middle of an intersection unexpectedly. It has been at two different dealers 3 times. Each time we were told it was fixed. Wrong! the brakes go to the floor without any warning! we had close calls each time. Just missing other vehicles. Does someone have to be killed before this problem is resolved?.
Brake failure while applying brakes and approaching a stop intersection, and vehicle continued without stopping. Dealer notified, and was unable to duplicate problem.
Brakes failed engage in a panic stop.
Brakes failed as the driver applied them and felt no slowing or pulsating causing him to hit the vehicle in front of him.
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Astro. The contact stated that the abs works intermittently while driving approximately 10 mph. When approaching a stop, the brakes would not apply and she almost rear ended another vehicle. This has been a persistent failure ever since she purchased the vehicle. The dealer repaired the brakes at the cost of $125, but the failure persists. The dealer stated that there was no brake failure. The contact stated that in order for the brakes to work, she has to slam her foot on the brake pedal, but this solution is not always guaranteed. The current mileage was 50,800 and the failure mileage was unknown. Updated 01-10-08. The consumer stated grossman Chevrolet repaired the chevy van again on Nov. 30, 2007 at the cost of $979. The consumer further stated in 2005 she rear ended a vehicle at 5mph because vehicle would not stop while applying the brakes. The dealer stated right front hub assembly was replaced, repaired front cover gasket, replaced front pinion, and replaced serpentine belt. Updated 12/31/07.
Brakes failed intermittantly causing vehicle to pull to the left or right resulting in loss of control while braking, replaced all parts of braking system with little or no improvement.

Abs brakes; when applying brakes in normal conditions, the pedal goes to the floor and brakes fail to stop vehicle. .
While braking on a slick road surface or with wet disks or while hitting a bump, the anti lock brakes activate but fail to re-engage. This causes the vehicle to continue with out slowing down. If the pedal is released and re-applied sometimes you can stop the vehicle or the emergency brake can be applied. This has happened to me on several occasions and in two different 2000 Astros which have been assigned to me. In speaking to three other drivers at our office, they have experienced the same problems. In my opinion this vehicle is very dangerous to drive, especially in bad weather.
