Failure Date: 03/02/2017

I have a 2008 chevy Avalanche ltz, I have a problem with the dash light coming on with service air bag, wiring by the emergency brake pedal a problem. It happens when it running, stationary, when I start the truck. I took the truck to the dealership and they replaced the air bag and the air bag sensor. 5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

Takata recall it has been more than 2 yrs since I was notified of the airbag recall. My Avalanche sensors are stating the airbag system has failed. I have been to the internet web sites and the dealership dozens of times only to get the same feedback. . . No solution has been determined, nothing they can do. It is pretty clear to me that they know how to fix the issue, but they are using stall tactics to avoid incuring the cost they are legally bound to spend. My particular make/model/year was supposed to prioritized and completed by March 2018. Since it is clear to me the stall tactics have been working with no accountability, I thought maybe I would trade the car in for a safer one without air bag problems. . . . No dealer will take the car in on trade because of the air bag problem. So I am stuck driving an known-unsafe-vehicle and putting my family at risk the airbag system won't arm, it's a known recall issue, and I cannot get it fixed makes no sense and is completely unacceptable.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

I was on the highway at cruising speed and I happened to look down and my dit says service air bags and shortly after onstar calls me asking if everything was alright. 7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

Went to start my vehicle and it flashed service airbag. Took it to the gm dealer and they say its the left front impact sensor. I have heard that this is a common issue for these vehicles and think that this being a safety issue, should be covered by the manufacturer.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

I had an accident on the hwy in georgia, the steering was hard to control/lock, the tire sled, was rust and corrode on structure, brake area, wheel area, frame, tire broke off, almost flipped and was hit from the back, and twice in the front after slamming into a cement divider and the air bags didn't deploy at all, I injured my left side, neck, back, and hip. Blessed that my pregnant daughter in her 8th month wasn't in the truck with me. I had done multiple repairs on the fuel tank, tire rod, knock sensor, abs brakes, running board, brakes, rotors, etc, and was told that the rust on the frame won't effect the trucks performance and it was safe to drive because everything is attached to the frame good. I almost lost my life and two of us got injured. If these trucks are having and been having these issues- why do they just pull all of them and give people other options.

"service airbag" sensor light and "idiot" light came on and won't go off. I have been on a few forums about this and there are lots of people with this same problem. Many different ideas on what will fix the problem but gm should issue a recall and fix it for everyone.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/02/2007

2002 chevy Avalanche's most common consumer complaint is "water leaking" into the interior of the SUV. Front floors are completely soaked with standing water. Dealership has tried varied method's to fix. The reason for complaint< and please pay attention to this: not only are these reported problems inconvenient (one chevy Avalanche owner reported one inch of water in the floor of his cab after an 8 hour drive!), but they could also be dangerous. On page 8-1117, volume 4 of the gm authorized service manual from helm inc. States: "caution: if any water enters the vehicle's interior up to the level of the carpet or higher and soaks the carpet, the sensing and diagnostic module (sdm) and the sdm harness connector may need to be replaced. The sdm could be activated when powered, which could cause the deployment of the airbag(s) and result in personal injury. " this fact is not given to owners, and in reality the air bags deployment system has been compromised by the water leaks. This one website has over 160 similar complaints. The federal government needs to make gm accountable, find and fix the problems ASAP, before there is a fatality. Thank you.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/18/2006

My vehicle (a 2002 chevy Avalanche) was involved in a total loss collision on January 18, 2006. The collision was a full frontal crash which caved in the entire front end of the Avalanche. The air bags did not deploy, and the driver of the vehicle was thrown out of his seat belt due to the force of the impact. The driver ended up in the passenger seat of the vehicle. It is my belief that the air bags malfunctioned. The criteria for air bag deployment were met. There was a deceleration rate from approx. 55 mph to a complete stop. The air bag sensor was hit (as seen from the examination of the vehicle upon arrival to the body shop). The collision was in the middle front of the vehicle. General motors did an inspection of the vehicle, however, I was not pleased with their conclusion. They said that the air bags did not malfunction. They claimed that the vehicle "absorbed" the impact, which caused the air bags not to deploy. I believe that this is a huge safety issue and it should be investigated by someone other than the manufacturer, who, in my opinion, was biased in his review of the incident.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/19/2005

This concerning my 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche with 47,987 miles. The "service airbag" stays on after ignition about 20% of the time. Additionally on trips of over 15 minutes it will come on during driving. Once the warning light comes on it stays on until the vehicle is turned off. Contacted the Chevrolet assistance center and they explained that I would have to pay for a diagnostic work up before they would consider covering the costs on fixing the problem. They stated they were unaware of the problem, despite the owners of the vehicles being very aware of the problem. This is a serious problem with the safety features and should be addressed without question.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

Vehicle had multiple occurrences of air bag warning light being displayed. The first episode required three visits to replace driver's side air bag restraint module and coil. Second episode required two visits to replace coil again!), and I have lost faith in the vehicle's ability to properly manage air bag system.
