Service airbag light came on when I released the emergency brake while on a hill, te vehicle only had 21,000 miles on it when this happened, dealer says it will cost about $1,000 to replace the sdm due to a failed current in the sdm, this vehicle has never been in an accident or air bags deployed, the warranty just ran out but still well below the allotted mileage. The dealer says the air bags will not work in the event of an accident.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the airbag warning indicator flashes and then stays on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the diagnosis was that the driver airbag module needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000. Bp.
The service air bag light came on, the vehicle was just driven a short distance 10 miles, then it sat. Still on onstar diagnostics couldn't communicate with the system. So called the dealer took it in, they said it was the sdm module, so they ordered a new one. A week later the new one came in, they can't communicate with that one. They said we could take the truck for the weekend, and they have the gm engineers looking into it. The car is in great shape, drove it 2 years without a single incident. They did just change the 4x4 actuator a few miles back. They want $667, but maybe more since it's been there for 2 whole days, with no improvement. Oh the extended warranty they sold me when I bought the truck for computer, electrical, etc. . ($2500 from united car care) doesn't cover it because it's air bag related something about liability.
All of a sudden while driving one day the service air bag light came on and stayed on. I was told that the air bag could deploy at any time and not work if we where in a crash. I called gm about the issue after looking on line and realising my truck was not the only one experiencing this issue and was told they would not pay to fix it as there is no recall. The truck was never in an accident and has lower mileage then allowed. This is definitely and issue. It is supposedly a module under the front seat or wherever it is located, as some trucks it is different places. They should be required to pay for this issue.

8/15/2014 - service air bag light displayed. Dealer diagnosed the issue as crash sensor (10370149). Dealership replaced sensor - cost $419. 07/10/2015 - service air bag light displayed. Dealer diagnose the issue as another crash sensor (10370149). Dealership replaced sensor - cost $473. I find it concerning that air bag sensors are failing on a vehicle with less than 35,000 miles. I'm not sure if the system is functional when these sensors fail.
My air bag light on the dash light up and I brought it in to kolor chev in duluth, mn. . They told me that they had received a letter on the problem and wanted to charge me between $200 and$ 300. I told them that I thought the air bags were a requirement by law to be in working order. They told me the bags may not work and wouldn't fix them with out payment as there is no recall however they were aware of the problem. Can you check this for me?? thanks. Dan anderson cloquet, mn.
My airbag light keeps coming on at various times. I heard that Chevrolet had a recall on some pickups. I hope the Avalanche is included. Thanks!.
I heard that Chevrolet is recalling certain pickups because of an air bag issue. My air bag indicator light comes on occassionally. Is this a concern? is my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche going to be recalled for the defect. Thank you!.
I am the owner of a 2007 Avalanche where the safety of the vehicle is in question. My wife was sitting stationary at a red light and for some reason both seat belts violently retracted to the point of injuring her and causing damage to passenger seat trim. Also the emergency flashers would not shut off and on-star was called twice. When the vehicle was being driven to the dealer for service check today, both side airbags deployed unexpectedly?my wife had to immediately stop the vehicle within a mile of our home, turn around, and leave it parked. I now have a vehicle that has seat belts that will not retract, side air bags deployed, and service air bag light continually on unable to be driven. Fortunately there were not more serious repercussions due to this vehicles failures. We expect your quick address of this and at no cost. To us. Just thankful lives were not lost due to whatever caused this problem.
Air bag light is on. While airbag light is on, airbags do not function. This is a known issue by Chevrolet. Hundreds of people experience the same problem. Needs a recall. This is a safety issue and should not cost the consumer to repair.
