The dashboard is cracked around the passenger side airbag. This presents a hazard as shards of plastic could become projectiles if the airbag is deployed. Nothing happened to cause the cracked dash, it seems to be a normal problem with these vehicles and it's creating a hazard.
Dashboard is cracked by passenger side airbag and over the instrument cluster. There have been thousands of complaints on 2007 to 2013 tahoes, suburbans, silverado's, and Avalanche's with this issue. Should the airbag deploy the cracking plastic could be a hazard.

Last week several cracks appeared in the dash around the passenger side airbag in my low mileage, garaged 2008 Avalanche. Upon researching the issue I found that it is a well know defect with dashes in 2007 to 2013 chevy trucks and that gm refuses to help those who experience the cracking. I am very fearful of the injuries that the shattered plastic would cause to the front seat passengers should the airbag deploy, so I have no other choice but to pay up to fix the gm issue. Gm, if not willing to defray the entire cost, should offer a substantial rebate for the repair.
Takata recall has not been resolved. In addition the dash panel is cracked next to the passengers side airbag.

Dashboard cracked in 2 locations, under 50,000 miles on vehicle. One crack located near passenger side air bag that could be dangerous in a crash and effect air bag deployment. Large scale of identical design defects in other similar vehicles and Chevrolet will not replace the damaged component without significant cost to owners and if replaced with only have the same problem again as flaw has not been corrected in replacement component.
Dashboard around passenger side airbag is cracked. In my opinion this could affect the operation of the airbag, or even tear it upon activation.

"takata recall" recall notice on faulty takata driver side air bag in our '08 Avalanche received July 2016 from general motors. Have yet to hear anything in return. Followed up with h & h Chevrolet in omaha ne (dealership of purchase) 11/2/17 regarding the recall (steve french and nick pabla). Still have not received a return response.
Takata recall. I was told by the authorized gm dealership that the recall for my vehicle was for the passenger side airbag, but they cannot fix the problem because general motors has not released instructions to remedy the problem. They advised me to wait until I received further notification. I received a notice saying that takata had filed for bankruptcy and I needed to immediately schedule a repair with an authorized dealer.

2011 Chevrolet Avalanche has dashboard cracking all around the passenger side air bag. My concern is if the air bag is deployed for any reason the hard plastic dashboard material will shatter a scatter all through the cabin injuring myself, or worse my family. My understanding after reading all the reviews this is not a concern of gm even though most vehicles have this issue. It seems they are simply waiting for enough people to get injured before they have to do a recall due to using inferior products. This was my first Chevrolet and will be my last, what a disappointment.
Takata recall: 2013 chevy Avalanche ltz cracking and separating dashboard along with rattling around the passenger side airbag housing. Safety hazard !!.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated the compartment that held the passenger side air bag was fractured. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the compartment that held the air bag was able to be repaired, but the part was unavailable. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Dashboard is cracking by passenger side airbag and in front of driver.
Dash has cracked and broken at left top corner of passenger side airbag and over instrument panel on drivers side. Entire dash is very brittle. This could lead to serious injury or death in the event of airbag deployment. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of these complaints for all chevy and gm trucks and SUV's in this year vehicle and the years following it. Will it take a piece of dash flying through someone's jugular vein to get gm to finally care about customer safety?.
My vehicle dashboard has cracked, most recently at the passenger side airbag. Another crack started earlier directly above the vehicle gauge cluster. The most recent crack to the dash now causes the dash panel to consistently shake while the vehicle is in motion. I do not know for sure if the cracks occurred while the vehicle was stationary or while in motion. The concern now involves the proper operation of the passenger side airbag and what will occur with the damaged dash if the airbag must deploy. Will it properly deploy and if it must, will the damaged dash have an adverse effect on the vehicle driver and passengers? finally, the damaged dash is a distraction to the vehicle operator with constant vibration and is directly ahead in the vehicle operators field of vision.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal noise was coming from the dashboard. The contact then noticed a crack was on the dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The contact was concern that the passenger inadvertently deploy. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v388000 (air bags). The manufacturer was ot notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 100,000. Ak.
I went out one day and the dashboard of 2013 Avalanche has two cracks. One above the driver's side instrument panel and the other around the passenger side airbag.
The dashboard cracked over the instrument panel and over the passenger side airbag. This is the second Avalanche that I have owned that cracked in the same location; previous year was a 2007.
The dashboard plastic has cracked in several places including the passenger side air bag panel. The plastic is brittle and has sharp edges- it would lacerate a face or arm easily.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the dashboard on the passenger side of the vehicle fractured along the passenger's side air bag housing enclosure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that the dash board needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Ah.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that while the driver was driving at approximately 35 mph, all four of the side air bags deployed without warning. The vehicle was towed to the driver's residence where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. Sg.
Dashboard crack in the corner of the passenger side airbag.
I purchased the vehicle new and after some time my dashboard started cracking breaking up around passenger side air bag and just above instrument panel on drivers side its and getting worse.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag compartment was cracked. Also, the contact mentioned that the steering column was cracked near the air bag compartment. The vehicle was not diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,000. Pam.
The dashboard cracked at the corner of the passenger side airbag and spidered out into the air vent. I brought it to the local chevy dealer, and basically told me to go away it wasn't under warranty. I bought an extended warranty I guess that doesn't cover anything. I know of hundreds of people with this same issue. This is about the safety of the consumers!!!.
The dashboard cracked for no reason in two places. One crack involves the passenger side airbag cover and the cover is coming off due to the crack. I told the dealership and they said they had seen this before but would not cover it. The crack is getting worse and the airbag cover is lifting up which will compromise the airbag deployment. There are many other complaints online of the same issue of cracking of the dashboard and all are saying the dealership will do nothing to fix this defect. This vehicle has already had to have the engine replaced twice due to defects, 3 times if you count the initial rebuilding of the engine.
Crack appeared in dash while truck was parked coming from the passenger side airbag location. The bag may catch on the crack if it was deployed.
My dashboard cracked at the narrowest part, which is also at the corner of the airbag station (passenger side). I can have a cover made for it. (I'm not sure I could afford to have it replaced) but, my main concern is, could that interfere with the deployment of the passenger side airbag?.
I had backed up a jet ski into a parking space. I had got out of the car to check spacing and got back in and closed the door. Went to place vehicle in drive and both side airbags deployed with my four year old son in the back seat.
My chevy Avalanche has a known issue of the dash cracking which gm denies. Like many other tahoe, silverado, and Avalanche owners I have a cracked dash right in the corner of the passenger side air bag and another over the drivers steering column. The dash flaps freely and I'm worried if the air bag goes off that sharp shrapnel will fly in the face of the driver and passenger. There are tons of owners all over with identical issues.
Driving on a normal paved road I heard two fairly loud "pop" sounds. Stopped and pulled over to see if I could find source of the sounds. Nothing had fallen, no windows broken, but noticed 2 cracks on upper dashboard where the passenger airbag resides. Pressed on that area and was able to see the dash had completely cracked apart and was "flopping". Proceeded to drive and in next mile another "pop" sound occurred, this time it was an even larger crack on the left side of the dash near the instrument panel, and the entire top portion of the dash drivers side to passenger side was now bouncing up and down by about 1-2inches. I fear if the drivers a-pillar side airbag or the passanger main airbag are deployed, that fragments and large pieces of the hard dash plastic can be thrown at high-speed to people in the cabin. . . This is not acceptable as a safety concern. I attempted a resolution thru gm, who wanted almost $1000 to do the repair, even though the acknowledge its a common problem, they do not seem willing to come to a common resolution. . Read more...
My dashboard has two large cracks around the passenger and drivers side airbags. . . . I see this is a big problem for many people so I'm not quite sure why they are not looking into it!.
Takaka recall and dashboard crack around the passenger side airbag cover. Stationary.
