2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/12/2004

I was driving down the road when the engine light came on. The Blazer began shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear very hard. I experienced loss of power and had to shut the vehicle off in the middle of an intersection. A diagnostics test showed a p1870 code. I have had the problem checked by a mechanic, who states that my torque convertor and the clutches will need to be replaced, as well as a switch, to the cost of $2000. After reading numerous other complaints similar or identical in nature, I wonder if perhaps it is a manufacturer defect or design problem? one of the mecahnics I spoke with said that Chevrolet Blazers are notorious for this problem.

I have a 1999 chevy Blazer. . . The automatic transmission has a 1st - 2nd shift problem or defect after some highway driving on very warm or hot days. . . I nearly rear-ended another vehicle. . . Several transmission shops said it's a very common problem with my car or trans. . . Trouble code was 1870. . . Some want to replace torque converter, clutch, rebuild trans $$$. . . I heard that chevy is well aware of the problem and that a "shift kit update" would fix it. . . Do you have any info on this matter ?. . Thanks !.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/18/2004

Upon approaching the driveway vehicle suddenly made a noise. Steering wheel felt funny. Also, front left tire turned in the opposite direction that vehicle was going. When this occurred vehicle skidded. Consumer depressed the brake pedal to stop. This occurred because the left front lower ball joint came apart, and the front right ball joints were starting to show signs of the same failure. The entire front suspension assembly needed to be replaced. Also, automatic transmission slipped when shifting from first to second gear. Meanwhile, while driving in over drive mode, the over drive disengaged and vehicle speed was reduced from a rapid pace to a very low speed. This failure almost resulted in an accident. Dealership determined this was caused by a failure in the torque converter solenoid.

5 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2003

Within 2 months of purchase, the brakes went out, the rotors were peeling like hungry man biscuits, replacement of all 4 rotors and shoes were done, abs still not working. Local chevy dealer unsure of problem. Check engine light continues on, chevy dealer does not know why. Now at 7 1/2 months of ownership, torque converter is "coming apart" according to aamco. It has a terrible whin and we are having it looked at by a local transmision shop today (8/26/03). I feel that the dealership that sold me this SUV, I am the second owner, should have noticed some of this happening or starting to happen at the time of purchase.

My '1997 Chevrolet Blazer lost its control after failing its right front upper ball joint of knuckle assembly. Right front tire was off the ground and the rh frt knuckle scrubbed the inside of tire rim. The Chevrolet dealer inform me to replace the upper ball joint as a recall item. And they charge me for all the other damaged parts. Second problem: the gear shifting lever did not go to the right position on the prindle during my driving. I asked the chevy dealer to fix it. They open the instrument panel and they told me they fixed it. The same day, my transmission was engaged into different gears against my intention during drving condition. The transmission began to make a kicking sound on the road besides shifting into any gearas and making serious metallic noise on the free way. The chevy dealer recommended me my vehicle needed a new transmission and I had to pay for it after paying for instrument panel fix, replacement of torque converter and towing from tennessee to detroit.

9 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

I bought a new vehicle so I would not have major problems like this. The mechanics said that there is a work order out on the torque converters. It will cost me $1600 for tranmission plus rental car and $618 for the two wheel bearings. The torque converter knocks when I shift gears and causes pressure build up in the engine. The wheel bearings cause loud noise when the vehicle is moving and I was told that the wheel may come off. I should not have these major problems with a vehicle, that is why I bought a new one. . . I never had problems like this with other 4x4 vehicles. GMC should be made to recall these vehicles for these problems. There is to be work orders out on both problems. . So the company is aware of the problems. This is my first chevy and I think it will be my last.
