I have a 1998 s-10 chevy Blazer that has an abs problem. The brakes are unable to stop the vehicle at a safe distance. 90% of the time the brake pedal resists pressure being put on it and pushes back. I had the abs fuse removed to disconnect the system and the problem ceases. My mechanic says the abs sensors will have to be replaced at a cost over $1000. 00. This vehicle is up for inspection this month and will not pass because of this problem.

I just saw the recall of gm trucks and SUV's for "unwanted application of the antilock brake system". I was disappointed to see that the Blazer is not included on this list because I own a 2002 Blazer, and I have experience this problem on two occasions. Traveling at about 30 miles per hour on dry pavement the antilock system activated as soon as I applied the brake pedal due to avoid turning traffic in front of me. The antilock system continued to chatter until I released the pedal about 5 seconds later. Braking was minimal during this time, and I might have hit the turning vehicle if it had stayed stopped.

To avoid accident on 2002 chev Blazer 4wd. I was in 2wd I hit the brakes. Nothing happened. I pushed brake pedal as far as it would go. Seat belts did not tighten, I downshifted but nothing happened. I heard two clunks in the rear end. I was unable to slow down from my speed at 30 mph. I saw a warning light on the dash during this incident. I hit a pickup truck who stopped suddenly to avoid a senior citizen who crossed lanes of traffic in a 65 mph she was doing about 30 mph. I was unable to reach emergancy brake in time. My wife rec'd two broken ribs and three cracked ribs and bruising. Pickup truck had minor damage. I had $6,700. 00 damage. I had just recently had a command module put in the vehicle to repair faulty 4wd problem not going in and out of 4wd without playing around with controls. My abs flat out did not work or slow me down. I could not downshift. My tachometer was at idle when I downshifted.
The sensor light to the abs system came on while pulling off from a red light due to possible abs system failure.

While driving there was noise from the brake motor then the abs warning light flashed on and brakes locked up. This problem was caused by a failure in the abs senor, and it needed replacement.
