1 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/21/2006

Car started making a rattling noise when I turned to the right shortly after having a spring replaced in drivers side front tire. Within a week the rattling progressed to a grinding. Dealership refused to look at it, knowing I was about to go on a long trip. I left for my trip (9 hour drive) after about 5 hours, this grinding noise was constant, then abs light came on, started messing with my steering, then, while trying to get to a dealership in the closest city ( still an hour away from my destination) tire broke off at the bearings while driving down a major 4 lane highway. Thank goodness the other cars were able to miss me, avoiding a major accident. Although I was told you don't have a lawsuit unless there's an injury, so I don't know if it was good or not!!!!! the transmission would slip when shifting from first to second gear. Updated.

5 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/12/2003

6/12/03, 2000 Blazer 4x4 transmission suddenly lost ability to obtain all gears. After parking, the vehicle lost ability to shift into reverse as well. Noise transmitted from transmission contained metallic material grinding and moving within. At the time, the vehicle was still less than 3 years old with the majority of its use coming from work transportation. The chevy dealer would not quote without disassembling the transmission, which would be the majority of the labor involved in a full repair. They stated that they generally prefer to replace the transmission, $3200. A local transmission shop diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes. The owner has seen this issue on several occasions and literally described the symptoms as soon as I told him I had a Blazer with transmission issues. The complete rebuild, due to a sun-shell gear failure, cost $2097. 78. The technician stated that the non-robust joining of two cylinders (no fillet) as well as the thickness and material used allows the part to fail quite frequently. He had completed multiple jobs for this at his shop alone. In fact, an acquaintance of mine, had the identical situation happen with his Blazer the week of 10/26/03. At the time of the incident I had called the chevy customer service line with no help coming from them. This has been the pinnacle of several failures on this vehicle including both front wheel bearing assemblies (38,000mi and 55,000mi), a power seat that quit working, a power window that quit working, and several paint issues. 6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/18/2002

Automatic transmission failed at 49,026 miles. While driving and applying pressure to the accelerator pedal, there is an audible sound of a gear "free wheeling". The transmission hesitates to shift gears when traveling forward. Although the gear shift level can be placed into reverse, the vehicle will not move in reverse. Lindsay Chevrolet (dealer where I purchased the vehicle 3 years, 2-1/2 months ago) conducted a preliminary diagnosis that involved no computer check, but based on the evident noise and performance of the transmission recommended replacement of the transmission. Beginning at 28,805 miles, this vehicle also experienced a recurring oil leak from the lower oil line/oil line adapter that took the dealer four attempts over four months to identify and repair. The right hub assembly also burned out at 38,190 miles. Ts.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/19/2002

After purchasing this vehicle new for over $26, 000, we began having problems immediately. Fortunately, these repairs (including 4 wd failure 3 x) were covered by the manufacturer's warranty. However, when the truck was diagnosed w/ transmission problems at 34,000 miles, we began to worry. I contacted gm at that time and begged them to consider extending the warranty. While being extremely pleasant, the ultimate decision was "no". This was based on the recommendation of the service manager, greg. He stated that there was no reason to extend the warranty, as the problems had all been fixed. Unfortunately, they had not! the transmission failed at 55,000 miles while doing 55 mph, on an entrance ramp to a major highway. While trying to accelerate, the truck made a horrible noise and would no longer shift into 2nd or 3rd gear. After carefully driving it to a safe place, I discovered that reverse was out as well. I contacted greg at the dealership immediately, and was informed that the transmission is no longer covered. I then contacted gm, and again, while being extremely pleasant, they have not committed to replacing or even helping to replace the transmission. This is the 1st american car I have ever owned and will never buy another. It is my feeling that gm knows that there is a problem, but is unwilling to step up and take responsibility. Shouldn't a 4 wd vehicle have a transmission that lasts past 100,000! not to mention 4 wd that actually works! dt.

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/07/2000

Transmission fluid would overflow and spray on back window. On 8/7-11 gm paid 80% I had to pay 20%-since I was over by 2,000 miles. Exact same thing happened on 8/14, they had my Blazer for almost 3 wks at no cost to me. They said they rebuilt the transmission. Same thing happened on 9/2/00 but now it has no reverse, made loud noise, they towed it-I would not drive it back this time. I was getting off the pike, applied brakes and the transmission down shifted and I went flying forward. . Thank go no other cars around and I was wearing my seat belt. The first repair I was without my Blazer for about a week, 2nd repair it was almost 3 weeks. . Have no idea how long this one will take. Prior to this I loved my Blazer. I don't feel at 38,000 you should have transmission problems. I did inform the service dept. When I first bought the Blazer it had a rusted dip stick and they replaced it. I think that is all they did, feel they should have drained the fluid, just in case rust chips or corosion fell into the fluid. They also put new brakes on 2 months ago and I keep telling them they aren't working properly. The abs brakes you press pedal and it goes almost to the flow, there is no way they would stop in an emergency on time. Based on this I am not pleased with the gm parts and the service deptartment!!!!!.

10 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/26/2000

We have experienced transmission problems starting in 12/98. At this time, our truck was still under warranty, and we mentioned that the transmission was slipping when our truck was serviced at wilton motors. The mechanics insisted it was fine. In fact, we are not even sure if they checked since our service invoice indicates that checking the transmission was a "deleted operation". On 2/25/00, the transmission failed while driving on the highway. It was constantly slipping and could not handle highway speeds (the truck was having trouble shifting gears and made a grinding noise). We brought the truck into an independent specialist on 3/2/00. The entire transmission needed to be rebuilt and several bands were replaced. The entire repair cost $1,800. We were not satisfied with the service at the gm dealership, and were concerned that they would now find a problem with the transmission and charge an even higher amount than an independent specialist. At this point, our truck was no longer under warranty. However, we felt the problem had developed while the truck was still covered under warranty, and the gm mechanics failed to find the problem. We have filed a complaint with general motors on 4/12, a complaint with the better business bureau on 6/12, and are now filing a complaint with NHTSA. We have spoken with other owners of 1995 and 1996 Blazers, and many have complained of transmission problems. We are hoping that gm realizes there is a problem with this part and will investigate other complaints on the transmission. We have already had 5 recalls for our 1996 Blazer, and we are hoping there will be a recall for the transmission.
