4 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

The upper radiator hose and gasket on numerous Colorado and canyon trucks have failed prematurely. Mine has failed at 31k miles. Radiator hose leaks can cause engine overheating and failures while on roadways. Additional issues of leaking coolant on roadways and into the environment. Vehicle is scheduled to be viewed by dealership. Symptom which lead to diagnosing problems included rushing fluid sounds as air was introduced to the coolant line as well as an observable leak on the driver side where the radiator hose connects to the radiator.

5 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 12/23/2025

Vehicle has 54,250 miles. Vehicle has a rear differential bearing going out by hearing and feeling the grinding at all speeds and the transmission jerks shafting gears. Both could cause an accident if totally fail. Chevrolet has a service bulletin out from what my local garage says. Mechanic also says Chevrolet will not warranty the product. Vehicle is now being looked at by a Chevrolet dealer. The vehicle is out of warranty. My son, who is [xxx] and not familiar with vehicles thought it was the tires causing the whining and vibration. Took the vehicle in several times to chevy and they ignored the issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 12/11/2025

Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado crew cab 4wd, VIN: [xxx] , mileage: 52,877. Recurrent failure in the cooling system and engine/transmission, affecting safety and use. Check engine light comes on and off intermittently, code p30c5 (coolant flow low). The coolant pump was replaced under warranty on March 20, 2025, at leson Chevrolet (harvey, la) with 26,621 miles (attached invoice), but the same issue persists 9 months later with "engine and transmission system" alert in mychevrolet app. This is the 5th failed repair for the same defect since purchase (August 2023). Previous repairs include transmission wiring/sensor (January 2024) and traction control/abs (December 2023). The vehicle is unsafe for daily 100-mile commute. Request investigation for potential recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 12/05/2025

Luggage and shudders at cruise speed, seems like auto transmission is coming apart. Paid $500 for the trans flush the service bulletin suggests but didn’t help, shop quoted a $8000 replacement on a vehicle with 60k miles. This should be a recall.

8 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

Component failure: body control module causing systematic electrical failures: door locks, power windows, window regulators, four-wheel drive transfer case display. Components intact, available for inspection. Safety risk: door locks malfunction preventing emergency exit. Power windows fail affecting communication/egress. 4wd display fault (yellow auto vs white) indicates transfer case control issues affecting traction in mountain winter driving at 10,000ft elevation. Unpredictable electrical failures create safety risk during remote travel. Dealer confirmation: approximately 20 dealer visits. Each time: scan codes, test drive, "no fault found. " problem temporarily clears via battery disconnect/reconnect, proving electrical fault not mechanical. Dealer cannot diagnose root cause, hasn't performed systematic electrical testing. Manufacturer inspection: none despite repeated failures. Warning symptoms: intermittent: door ajar warnings, power window/lock failures, 4wd indicator yellow, various warning lights. All symptoms simultaneously resolve after battery disconnect/reconnect, indicating bcm or power distribution fault. Pattern repeats with increasing frequency. Critical: research shows multiple 2023 Colorado owners report identical patterns - intermittent multi-system failures resolving via battery reset. Indicates systematic 2023 model year defect, likely bcm firmware/hardware issue. Problem occurs unpredictably, clears during dealer transport. Request gm engineering data logging during normal operation.

9 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/10/2025

Transmission is not shfting properly. Truck losses speed and shutters when trying to accelerate. Difficulty climbing hills. Especially dangerous when merging with traffic. Only 33,000 miles on my truck. Gm should recall to address this much complained about issue.

11 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/11/2025

Highlighting a materials defect with the rear crankshaft reluctor ring on the 2. 8 lwn duramax, installed in the army infantry squad vehicle and the 2015-2023 Chevrolet Colorado, from which it is based.  when the ring delaminates, due to age, the vehicle engine shuts off and no start, rendered dead lined, as the ecu can no longer "see" the crank position. Requiring the transmission to be removed to rectify the issue.   I was pulling a trailer up a hill on the freeway when my truck down shifted, in an effort to slow down for a bus that was merging unexpectedly and the truck died at speed. The increase in rpm initiated an unplanned, instant disassembly of the ring due to cracking on the material and increased centrifugal force, shutting off the engine without warning, at speed. Again, just dead stick to the shoulder, towing a trailer, on the freeway. That could have been bad. . . Had truck towed to gm dealer, for a month-long repair.

12 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/18/2025

Even when new, the truck would abruptly down shift from 2nd to 1st, every now and then. Then with about 3000 miles on the truck its started doing every time, once the transmission is warmed up. It seemed to get better and then started again with about 4000 miles and kept getting worse. It got so bad that the truck would shudder and it almost felt like I was getting rear ended and you could hear knocking from the transmission. I then turned it in the dealer and when I got it back, the dealer stated that they had to replace a valve in the valve body.

13 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/12/2025

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while accelerating, the vehicle vibrated and shook abnormally, as if driven over ripples on the roadway. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the tires were balanced. The contact picked up the vehicle and stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission oil failed to heat up as intended, and condensation had built up in the transmission. The dealer added mobil 1 transmission oil to heat up the oil and remove the condensation. The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle needed to be driven between 200 and 400 miles to remove the condensation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a claim and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

14 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/05/2025

Transmission shuttering mostly at interstate speeds but as slow as 35 mph. Under light to medium light pedal acceleration. Truck feels as if it's going over road ripples. I'm disappointed to find out this is a common problem with chevy 8-speed transmissions. It happens every time I drive it. From time to time it'll shake the truck a little violently.

15 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/31/2025

The vehicle experienced a sudden and progressive transmission failure during normal driving conditions. Symptoms included harsh shifting, delayed engagement, loss of power transfer, and eventual inability to reliably propel the vehicle. The failure created a safety risk due to unexpected loss of acceleration and unpredictable drivetrain behavior while in traffic. The transmission issue was not the result of improper maintenance. The vehicle was maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. The condition worsened over time and ultimately required dealer inspection. A dealership inspected the vehicle and attributed the failure to a transmission defect, characterizing it as a maintenance issue despite no evidence of neglect. The transmission and related components remain available for inspection upon request. No warning lights provided adequate advance notice prior to the functional failure. The issue occurred without driver misuse and under ordinary driving conditions.

16 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

17 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

Defective torque converter at estimated 92k miles even after following all preventive maintenance schedule.

18 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/28/2025

Transmission oil leak with only 60,000 miles just bought from a dealership as is 3 days ago and was not informed of the issue.

19 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/10/2025

Transmission shakes, lurchers when driving, transmission stalls then engages abruptly at low speed and highway speed.

20 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/06/2025

Clunking sound coming from rear end upon normal acceleration. When I take my foot off of the brake pedal, and depress the gas pedal, a loud clunk appears to come from the differential. If I coast first and then depress the gas pedal, it is not as pronounced. When you slow down to make a corner, and resume speed exiting the corner it is also pronounced. It should be noted that I am a safe adult driver (safe driver module installed in truck) and have 35,800 miles. My truck has always been serviced by my Chevrolet dealership; I am an older gentlemen and never drive recklessly. I'd like to think the rear differential should not be making a clunking sound at this point in its history.

21 Power Train problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/28/2025

Steering: sudden loss of power steering. Dis display says check stable trak transmission: has a problem with request for downshift.

22 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/23/2025

I own a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado lt extended cab 2wd. The rear differential has failed prematurely at 70000 miles. The failure caused loud whining/grinding noises, vibration, and unsafe driving conditions. After researching online, I found many other 2021 Colorado owners reporting the same issue with rear differential failure, often at relatively low mileage. This indicates a widespread defect in the differential assembly. There are existing gm technical service bulletins (20-na-034, 20-na-156) related to axle/differential noise and machining defects, but gm has not issued a recall or extended warranty coverage. Differential failure can lead to loss of power to the wheels or lockup while driving, which poses a serious safety risk. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue and require gm to issue a recall or special coverage adjustment for the affected vehicles.

23 Power Train problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/17/2025

Power steering suddenly stops working while driving, making it difficult to steer. Fortunately when this happened today it was at low speeds and on a straight away. Warning light to check power steering went on followed by check stabilitrak system. I called the dealer and am waiting for a response. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance rep, or other. No warning lamp occurred prior to the power steering failure.

24 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/20/2025

I experienced shuttering when accelerating, leaving treasure island garage. I got on the freeway and drove 11 miles. I experienced shuttering again after waiting at a red light. I experienced final shuttering after reaching another red light. Had it towed to the dealership and was told that the transmission was no longer operational. Truck was 5. 5 years old with a little over 60k miles. I was on the way to pick up my daughter and thankfully, she was not in the truck when this occurred. Truck did routine maintenance at chevy dealerships only. Fairway for the majority and findlay the final year of its life.

25 Power Train problem of the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

On [xxx] after only 400 miles on the odometer, I experienced complete transmission failure while on a highway and was nearly hit by the vehicle behind me, luckily that did not happen. On April 29th, a new replacement transmission was installed by the chevy dealer, and now on [xxx] I had experienced a severe burning smell from under the hood of the vehicle accompanied with a grinding sound, which lead to me to take it back to the dealer. On 05/15/25, the customer care manager informed me that the new transmission from the factory has metal debris inside the pan, and the vehicle would again require a complete "tear down". This is very unsafe for major powertrain components from the gm factory to keep failing, another failed transmission on a brand new truck like this is very unsafe especially because I drive on major highways to commute for work and transport my young children. This is unsafe for the public and my family, gm needs to be held accountable, they also refuse to refund me my money back on this vehicle, and are disregarding lemon laws in nys. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

26 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/10/2025

Transmission component: m5t: transmission auto 8 spd, 8l45 available for inspection. The vehicle shakes badly and shudders during acceleration and causes a brief inability to accelerate, often at higher speeds and with a great deal of rumbling and vibration. No other warning lamps, messages, or symptoms. The problem first appeared about 2 months ago. I recognized it as a persistent problem, and I was no longer comfortable driving the vehicle and feared that it would shut down while driving. I took my vehicle for diagnostic and maintenance at a local service center who also noticed that the transfer case "is making an unusual squeaking noise when driving". I was then notified that this is a known problem with this vehicle make and model for 2019 and referred here to file a complaint. Having less than 60k miles on this vehicle, I was referred to the dealership for possible next steps.

28 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

I have a 2023 Colorado and its only got 69,000 miles. My crank shaft seal went out with no warnings. No dash lights or oil lights. Ive read online where is this has happened to a few Colorados. I had 0 oil on my dipstick and didn't have one check engine light on.

29 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

Complete engine failure due to defective crankshaft malfunction, truck taken to certified repair shop and then dealer, deal not responding for 24 days. Engine failed traveling on the highway was fortunately able to pull over, stranded. Engine light came on and the engine failed completely 5-10 min after on a 2 hour return trip home. Certified repair shop informed me this is the exact same reason of the recall just that my vehicle wasn’t currently under the recall. Vehicle component has been recalled on other Chevrolet vehicles manufactured during the same time just not this one yet.
