At around the 105k mile range the truck would make a gear whine sound and shudder between gears at around the 50mph range, speeding up or slowing down a bit would fix the issue. By 110k miles the truck was making the gear whine sound at speeds over 10 miles an hour studdering at every gear change. I took it to a mechanic who said there were no TSB's for the truck and suggested doing a trans oil dump and filter replacement. The trans filter was replaced, and 7 quarts mobil1 lv atf blue label oil was put into the transmission. The studdering has reduced to just at the 50mph range but the gear whine sound has if anything gotten louder.

Drive ability issues, feels like going over cattle guard, shudders when accelerating around 40-60 mph. The vehicle shudder's abnormally. There are no warning lights illuminated. Took to local Chevrolet dealership where a service bulletin, TSB: 21-na-047 was discovered to address the issue. The dealer recommended a transmission fluid flush. Mileage on this vehicle was 67,631.

My truck has been shuddering and when put into gear it sounds like the bottom is falling out of it. Now when I am driving my truck is shuddering very hard and skipping gears. I have been having this issue since I bought the truck with only 47k miles and I have only put 40k miles on this truck in the past 3 years that I have owned it. I keep the maintenance up on my truck and have since I’ve owned it and I have already put a complaint into gm, when I bought the truck it has had electrical issues and the dealership is not helping. My warranty is out on this truck and gm said there is nothing they can do to help with my transmission or electrical problems. This truck has not even hit 100k and I’m so upset that I am having these many problems and no one is wanting to help, they just want my money. I can’t afford an attorney or I would sue this dealership for selling me a lemon and for gm knowing about there faulty transmission in my year truck and not standing behind it!.
Complaint # 11630574 transmission shudder, took to dealership on 09/28/2023 had transmission flushed and changed fluid to new style transmission fluid, per gm under warranty. I was told that if it needed done again that I would have to pay to have it done and would cost approximately $400- $500. On 12/13/2024 the truck is shuddering again at 48,700 miles.
I purchased my 2019 chevy Colorado z71 new in Feb 2019 from a dealership. About two years ago I began having shifting issues from 1st to 2nd gear, it would shudder and seem almost stuck, this would only occur infrequently. Right after I hit 100,000 miles (about a year ago) I have had nothing but issues with the 8 speed transmission, my vehicle is unable to shift from 1st to 2nd without having the shudder occur, it feels like the whole truck is shaking and loses power at acceleration. I took it in for their recommended "service bulletin" which was something that I had to locate myself because gm has not once communicated about there being any kind of shudder issue and they performed a simple flush of the transmission, not the service bulletin recommendation of three flushes and a different fluid. My truck is now in the shop because I am unable to drive it due to this ongoing issue that gm fails to recognize and so far have spent $1,000 attempting to rectify this issue and being told that in order for them to actually perform the service bulletin, it will be another $225 to diagnose the problem, around $500-$700 to perform the service bulletin, and then if that "does not fix the problem", I will have to spend another $900 on a torque converter because that "could" be the issue, the dealership "doesn't know". Then the third fix would be to replace the transmission ($5500-$8500) this has been a known issue since manufacturing and gm is failing to provide adequate assistance to fix a known problem with their 8 speed transmissions. I no longer feel safe to operate my chevy Colorado in fear that it could cause serious injury to myself and others due to gm not being able to provide a safe fix to their ongoing issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving and coming to a complete stop, the vehicle jerked while shifting gear. Additionally, while driving at slow speeds, the transmission was slipping, and the vehicle hesitated while shifting into gear. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the torque converter and other unknown transmission parts had previously been replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

No warning lights are illuminated but have this consistent violent engine rattle/shuddering that is getting worse and worse. Also when looking under the hood the crank pulley wobbles/rattles when truck is idle. Was told it could be the harmonic balancer going out due to there being a gap between that and the crank. The truck only has 100,000 miles on it. I got it used at 88,000 miles and have barely had the truck for a year now, the steering wheel was intermittently difficult to maneuver and no warning lights illuminate, the truck shifts hard from 1st to second gear now and seriously hesitates to accelerate. This is extremely concerning and apparently an ongoing complaint for this vehicle and something should be done about it. Not only does it cause financial destress on the owners of the vehicles but also a safety hazard to the driver.
In [xxx] I took my truck in for oil change, inspection and 3rd complaint of shaking, and shuddering, lurching at a stop, they told me my transmission was broken, they would have to order the part and their was no eta on when they would get it. I was told there were none in the tri-state area from another dealership. We are a one (1) car family and jim trenary chevy said they don’t give out loaners, therefore we had to rent a car at 370. 00 a week. Here it is January 15 and we are still renting a car. They finally got the part sometime last week, but we need help! we have spent over 5,000 in rental car fees and gm will not reimburse us until we return the rental car, even though we have paid cash every week, and we’re have had to borrow from my husbands future paychecks. We are broke. We have to pay the deductible of 500. 00 when it is finally fixed, plus, during the snow storm last week someone side swiped my rental car, and I have to give enterprise 1500. 00 when I turn in the car for my deductible from insurance. I read there is a 65 million$ law suit pending to gm for these faulty transmissions, yet they don’t feel responsible to pay our expenses for something that is their problem, not ours, but they have made it my problem, and I am shouldering all the financial burden of this, their faulty transmission. We need help, we are now broke and now can not afford to pay for the rental, or our repair deductible, or our car payment. We don’t make that kind of money. My husband is the only one that works full time. We need help, and no one wants to listen or seems to care. We are broke! thank you for listening. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at 30-50 mph, the vehicle shuddered. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was shuddering at 35 mph. The dealer recommended the transmission fluid replacement and transmission flush. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who referred to the NHTSA hotline to include the vehicle under TSB. 21-na-047. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
Transmission issues — shudder and vibration; stuttering; vibration and slams into gear at low speeds when going into gear. Problem has been confirmed by a independent service center. No warning lights. No codes detected by service center. Bought in may of 2019. 47,000 miles. Noticed about two months ago,.
My vehicle has only 70,000 miles on it. My transmission began to shimmy and is getting worse and worse and several technicians have told me the transmission will have to be replaced. The parts are not available anywhere in the country to rebuild the parts of the transmission that are defective. Secondly I was told I could replace the transmission but there are no transmissions available in the entire country to repair my vehicle with. After investigation on the internet this is a massive problem with this model vehicle and chevy has been well aware of it for years. A few months ago I had the same problem with them air conditioner compressor. There were no air conditioner compressors available anywhere in the country for my four and a half year old vehicle.
Transmission shudders from 20 to 60 under light acceleration. Took to dealer and said that needed different oil. Dealer stated that a common issue with these vehicles. Cost $500 to replace oil to proper oil.
The automatic 8-speed transmission completely deteriorated after 4 years/64,000 miles exactly after the power train warranty. No warning lights or signals identified me of the problem, only a noticeable shuddering when driving at highway speeds. This vehicle is currently at the dealership where they have confirmed I will need a new transmission to replace the faulty original manufacturer's transmission. My safety and others' safety is/was affected by a faulty piece of equipment that was destroyed with regular use. This could potentially lead to my vehicle being unable to shift up/down during traffic leading to an injury or worse.
On multiple occasions the warning to service power steering and stabilitrak have popped up during driving causing a loss of power steering. Once I was taking a curve and it jerked the truck toward the right but I luckily had a good grip on the steering wheel to keep it on the road. Other occasions it occurs upon starting the vehicle in the morning or after sitting parked for several hours. When this occurs, it is very difficult to keep control of the vehicle when turning is concerned. I have brought it up with service technicians at the dealership but they cannot diagnose unless it is in the state of warning lights on and loss of power steering. The issue usually goes away when vehicle is turned off and restarted, though not always. This issue continues at haphazard intervals so it makes driving tense and unsafe as there is no telling when it will pop up. It is also causing an issue to get fixed because it cannot be replicated to get diagnosed properly. I have not been able to get any codes read for the issue as I am not near a facility when it occurs.
My son was driving the vehicle when it lost power and he had to maneauver to the side of the road putting himself and others in danger. The truck was not able to drive forward, but could only drive in reverse. There were no warning lights or other indications that the vehicle had a problem. I had it towed to a mechanic who said chevy Colorados have problems with their transmissions and it would need to be replaced.
Torque converter shudder. Had dealer do the recommended flush which cost $800 and still has same issue.
Transmission shudder at low speeds.
Transmission extreme shudder.
2024 Colorado tb purchased new on [xxx]. About 3 days later with 150 miles logged parked in my driveway I noticed oil spots and leaking. Drove to dealer and they kept it for around 3 days. Dealer contacted gm to supply data points and information. Gm had a bulletin placed for rear main oil seal and gasket failure they attributed to faulty parts from original plant inside u. S. Dealer received authorization and billed warranty pulled tranny (allegedly) and replaced rear main oil seal gaskets to stop leaks. Had truck back in 3 days with much pressure and calls noting it was a brand new truck. A few quirks and lights I'm monitoring not related to this noted issue stated. Gm was attempting to determine how many trucks these faulty gasket seals affected. Dealer was good about providing rental free and turned truck around quick. Extremely odd and quirky for brand new truck with 150 miles logged but I guess things happen it is what it is. I read all the other blogs and statements noted here so I wanted to include this one. The rear differential suddenly broke down on my way to take the freeway, making a very clicking loud noise of the rear wheel and Colorado was responding to the transmission do to a differential failure. And I noticed that oil was all over the road.
I bought a 2024 Colorado trail boss on may 31 and after a week the truck broke down I made a stop in a t intersection, once I had a clear path I started to accelerate and in that moment the truck jerked and at the same time I heard a loud noise under the back of the car. It felt like if I had been accelerating in neutral and suddenly changed gear to drive. After that, the car continue moving but after a few seconds the truck started to lose power and going super slow I tried to accelerate but the truck did not respond. I was able to pull off the road and stop in a parking lot. After that the truck no longer moved forward or backward regardless of what gear the car was in. . . The car didn't move again. He truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer, and after two weeks, the service advisor informed me that the issue was with the transmission valve body. When this happen my family was with me in the truck, luckily, nothing serious happened and I was able to get off the road.
Truck has intermittent vibration at highway speeds and they are getting worse. The dealer just called and said the torque converter was shot. That seems to be a great deal of the power train complaints.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? it appears to be a piston failure, as there is compression and diesel in the crankcase. Engine is still in the vehicle but once removed it will be available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? power loss on a busy highway requiring lane changes without available engine power is dangerous. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? p0266 code and engine light set immediately after the failure. But there were no warnings prior.
Shutter or vibration issue regardless of speed even when cruise control is active. Took it to the dealer and they said the wrong fluid was installed at the manufacturer. Also told me my extended warranty would not cover it since it was not a mechanical issue. I saw that gm has issued a service bulletin 18-na-355. However, I have yet to discover from any online account that this fixed the problem. Why is there no recall for this common issue.
The vehicle stuttered upon acceleration between 20mph and 35mph. After the 2018 chevy Colorado was taken into the chevy dealership for inspection, the torque converter failed at roughly 76,000 miles. A bad torque converter can potentially cause an accident. It can lead to engine revving issues, sudden speed changes, which can be dangerous while driving. The torque converter failed and left metal shavings in the transmission causing the transmission to need replaced as well. This was diagnosed by the chevy dealership and has a repair ticket of over thirteen thousand dollars. ( $13,000. 00 ) which most people can't afford to absorb. After a quick google search, this appears to be a common problem. There should be a recall to fix this issue.
“service trailer brake system” won’t turn over but will crank transmission shifting very hard around 3rd and 4th gear.
Power steering assist is occasionally lost and makes vehicles hard to manuver. If the car is turned off and restarted the problem is momentarily fixed but happens again at random.

Sudden loss of power steering assist while driving. Warning light went off on dash for steering assist and stabilink traction control system. Truck is very hard to steer when this suddenly happens. This is the third time in a month. 2015 models have a recall for exact same problem but 2016 do not.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving 60-70 mph, the transmission was slipping, and the vehicle decelerated and was shaking before slamming into a gear and then continued accelerating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after stopping, the vehicle proceeded to move off in another gear other than 1st gear, then abruptly downshifted into 1st gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a complaint was filed, the contact was added to a list, and then referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Vehicle began exhibiting an intermittent shake between 45-60 mph which felt like driving on a wash board road. In addition it would shift hard/bog down between 1st and 2nd gear. Took to a dealer for service and was told a TSB had been issued to flush the transmission, this was performed. Condition returned within months and after multiple additional visits where the dealer claimed they couldn't replicate the issue they finally determined the torque converter needed to be replaced at approximately 70,874 miles. By this time the warranty had expired (60,000 mile warranty) and I was told I would have to pay for it.
The transmission suddenly went out while driving on the freeway. The vehicle suddenly reduced speed while on busy freeway impeding the flow of traffic.

At about 58000 miles my vehicle began to shake violently as I drove it. I initially thought the wheels were out of balance or I had a leaf spring issue. Had both issues looked at and that was not it. Took it to a chevy dealer who wanted 200 dollars just to look at it. By this time I was just over 60k miles. Did a lot of research online and found that if you had the transmission flushed that would resolve the issue. Had they done and problem solved. Now at 80k miles and it's doing it again. Called Chevrolet dealership who told me it would be 5 weeks, $500 and I should probably call another dealer to see if I could get it in and that is for them to just flush it again. Chevrolet has a well known issue with these transmissions and are not offering any assistance but to try and get you past the 60k mileage where they say not their problem.
The key will not come out of the ignition when the vehicle is in park. This presents a safety issue where the driver cannot leave the vehicle because the key is stuck in the ignition. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer and found to be a faulty transmission control assembly. The faulty transmission control assembly has now been replaced twice on my vehicle, once at 19,000 miles and again at 33,000 miles. There were not any warnings or messages, just one day the key won't come out of the ignition.
Reference report #11449007 the transmission in my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado z71 quad cab short bed is hard shifting, shuddering and pausing. The transmission has been serviced two times by the dealer and two times by me. Servicing means fluid and filter changes.
