The automatic 8-speed transmission completely deteriorated after 4 years/64,000 miles exactly after the power train warranty. No warning lights or signals identified me of the problem, only a noticeable shuddering when driving at highway speeds. This vehicle is currently at the dealership where they have confirmed I will need a new transmission to replace the faulty original manufacturer's transmission. My safety and others' safety is/was affected by a faulty piece of equipment that was destroyed with regular use. This could potentially lead to my vehicle being unable to shift up/down during traffic leading to an injury or worse.

On multiple occasions the warning to service power steering and stabilitrak have popped up during driving causing a loss of power steering. Once I was taking a curve and it jerked the truck toward the right but I luckily had a good grip on the steering wheel to keep it on the road. Other occasions it occurs upon starting the vehicle in the morning or after sitting parked for several hours. When this occurs, it is very difficult to keep control of the vehicle when turning is concerned. I have brought it up with service technicians at the dealership but they cannot diagnose unless it is in the state of warning lights on and loss of power steering. The issue usually goes away when vehicle is turned off and restarted, though not always. This issue continues at haphazard intervals so it makes driving tense and unsafe as there is no telling when it will pop up. It is also causing an issue to get fixed because it cannot be replicated to get diagnosed properly. I have not been able to get any codes read for the issue as I am not near a facility when it occurs.

My son was driving the vehicle when it lost power and he had to maneauver to the side of the road putting himself and others in danger. The truck was not able to drive forward, but could only drive in reverse. There were no warning lights or other indications that the vehicle had a problem. I had it towed to a mechanic who said chevy Colorados have problems with their transmissions and it would need to be replaced.

2024 Colorado tb purchased new on [xxx]. About 3 days later with 150 miles logged parked in my driveway I noticed oil spots and leaking. Drove to dealer and they kept it for around 3 days. Dealer contacted gm to supply data points and information. Gm had a bulletin placed for rear main oil seal and gasket failure they attributed to faulty parts from original plant inside u. S. Dealer received authorization and billed warranty pulled tranny (allegedly) and replaced rear main oil seal gaskets to stop leaks. Had truck back in 3 days with much pressure and calls noting it was a brand new truck. A few quirks and lights I'm monitoring not related to this noted issue stated. Gm was attempting to determine how many trucks these faulty gasket seals affected. Dealer was good about providing rental free and turned truck around quick. Extremely odd and quirky for brand new truck with 150 miles logged but I guess things happen it is what it is. I read all the other blogs and statements noted here so I wanted to include this one. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The rear differential suddenly broke down on my way to take the freeway, making a very clicking loud noise of the rear wheel and Colorado was responding to the transmission do to a differential failure. And I noticed that oil was all over the road.
I bought a 2024 Colorado trail boss on may 31 and after a week the truck broke down I made a stop in a t intersection, once I had a clear path I started to accelerate and in that moment the truck jerked and at the same time I heard a loud noise under the back of the car. It felt like if I had been accelerating in neutral and suddenly changed gear to drive. After that, the car continue moving but after a few seconds the truck started to lose power and going super slow I tried to accelerate but the truck did not respond. I was able to pull off the road and stop in a parking lot. After that the truck no longer moved forward or backward regardless of what gear the car was in. . . The car didn't move again. He truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer, and after two weeks, the service advisor informed me that the issue was with the transmission valve body. When this happen my family was with me in the truck, luckily, nothing serious happened and I was able to get off the road.
Truck has intermittent vibration at highway speeds and they are getting worse. The dealer just called and said the torque converter was shot. That seems to be a great deal of the power train complaints.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? it appears to be a piston failure, as there is compression and diesel in the crankcase. Engine is still in the vehicle but once removed it will be available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? power loss on a busy highway requiring lane changes without available engine power is dangerous. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? p0266 code and engine light set immediately after the failure. But there were no warnings prior.
Shutter or vibration issue regardless of speed even when cruise control is active. Took it to the dealer and they said the wrong fluid was installed at the manufacturer. Also told me my extended warranty would not cover it since it was not a mechanical issue. I saw that gm has issued a service bulletin 18-na-355. However, I have yet to discover from any online account that this fixed the problem. Why is there no recall for this common issue.
The vehicle stuttered upon acceleration between 20mph and 35mph. After the 2018 chevy Colorado was taken into the chevy dealership for inspection, the torque converter failed at roughly 76,000 miles. A bad torque converter can potentially cause an accident. It can lead to engine revving issues, sudden speed changes, which can be dangerous while driving. The torque converter failed and left metal shavings in the transmission causing the transmission to need replaced as well. This was diagnosed by the chevy dealership and has a repair ticket of over thirteen thousand dollars. ( $13,000. 00 ) which most people can't afford to absorb. After a quick google search, this appears to be a common problem. There should be a recall to fix this issue.
“service trailer brake system” won’t turn over but will crank transmission shifting very hard around 3rd and 4th gear.
Power steering assist is occasionally lost and makes vehicles hard to manuver. If the car is turned off and restarted the problem is momentarily fixed but happens again at random.

Sudden loss of power steering assist while driving. Warning light went off on dash for steering assist and stabilink traction control system. Truck is very hard to steer when this suddenly happens. This is the third time in a month. 2015 models have a recall for exact same problem but 2016 do not.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving 60-70 mph, the transmission was slipping, and the vehicle decelerated and was shaking before slamming into a gear and then continued accelerating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after stopping, the vehicle proceeded to move off in another gear other than 1st gear, then abruptly downshifted into 1st gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a complaint was filed, the contact was added to a list, and then referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Vehicle began exhibiting an intermittent shake between 45-60 mph which felt like driving on a wash board road. In addition it would shift hard/bog down between 1st and 2nd gear. Took to a dealer for service and was told a TSB had been issued to flush the transmission, this was performed. Condition returned within months and after multiple additional visits where the dealer claimed they couldn't replicate the issue they finally determined the torque converter needed to be replaced at approximately 70,874 miles. By this time the warranty had expired (60,000 mile warranty) and I was told I would have to pay for it.
The transmission suddenly went out while driving on the freeway. The vehicle suddenly reduced speed while on busy freeway impeding the flow of traffic.

At about 58000 miles my vehicle began to shake violently as I drove it. I initially thought the wheels were out of balance or I had a leaf spring issue. Had both issues looked at and that was not it. Took it to a chevy dealer who wanted 200 dollars just to look at it. By this time I was just over 60k miles. Did a lot of research online and found that if you had the transmission flushed that would resolve the issue. Had they done and problem solved. Now at 80k miles and it's doing it again. Called Chevrolet dealership who told me it would be 5 weeks, $500 and I should probably call another dealer to see if I could get it in and that is for them to just flush it again. Chevrolet has a well known issue with these transmissions and are not offering any assistance but to try and get you past the 60k mileage where they say not their problem.
The key will not come out of the ignition when the vehicle is in park. This presents a safety issue where the driver cannot leave the vehicle because the key is stuck in the ignition. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer and found to be a faulty transmission control assembly. The faulty transmission control assembly has now been replaced twice on my vehicle, once at 19,000 miles and again at 33,000 miles. There were not any warnings or messages, just one day the key won't come out of the ignition.
Reference report #11449007 the transmission in my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado z71 quad cab short bed is hard shifting, shuddering and pausing. The transmission has been serviced two times by the dealer and two times by me. Servicing means fluid and filter changes.
When accelerating there is a shake. From diagnostic it seems there is an issue with the torque converter.
Transmission is slipping, vibrating, jerking. Bought the truck used. It started on 12/28/2023. There is no open recall or anything.
Transmission slips when starting on steep grades, and transmission hesitation/shuttering between first and second gears.
Transmission slips when starting on steep grades when first shifting from park to first gear. Transmission hesitates/shudders between first and second gears.
There is a known issue with my truck, where the transmission will all of a sudden lock up and then it shutters. The truck shakes violently and happens randomly. There is no rhyme or reason why this happens. Of course I'm barely over my warranty and chevy in austin states that it will be 3-5 days before they can review my truck. They won't provide a rental car or any help with a rental, so I'm expected to not have a car or figure out something myself to even have my truck looked at. My friend has GMC canyon (same transmission) and had to have a level two mechanic replace his fluids. There are no warning lights or anything, this is a constant thing that is getting worse. There is a lawsuit in canada for this issue that chevy has known about and they haven't done anything about it.
Sluggish or chattering, shaking transmission, at slow speeds.
Stabilitrack system alerts then will cut off power steering. Clicking on the shift module occured resulting the computer to go into limp mode making unsafe to drive when it happens spontaneously as I drive. Took it to a local mechanic and ecu codes came up however the dealership is scheduled this weekend. No warnings. The mechanic was able to see the codes pop as I drove.
Transmission is slipping and vibrates while driving. Delayed acceleration.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the vehicle briefly shuddered before returning to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 32,500.
Transmission shudder unless I put vehicle in tow haul. Shudders at a out 35 40 miles per hour. Seems to be a recurring problem from 2018 forward. This vehicle has only about 25 000 miles on it. I researched and also spike to a transmission person and they think it may be a computer issue. Supposedly they replace transmission fluid if that doesn't fix they replace took convertor. The problem I have is this is a long time recurring problem that should be identified and fixed by general motors. A vehicle with such low miles built 2 years after they are aware these transmissions have the what's called dreaded shudder shouldn't still be happening.
A known wire chaffing problem for this make/model caused vehicle to loose all transmission power. Doors unlocked and locked on their own while moving the vehicle. Had two young children with me in 100+ degree weather. Truck finally moved in first gear at 20 mph max to get home on the road with other traffic.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle seemed to operate in four-wheel drive (4wd) mode; however, the instrument cluster indicated that the vehicle was operating in two-wheel drive (2wd) mode. Additionally, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the check engine warning light was cleared. The contact also stated that while at a complete stop, the auto start/stop feature turned off the engine; however, upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and the engine made abnormal grinding sounds. The vehicle then accelerated to 40 mph and then slammed on the brakes unintendedly, nearly causing a crash. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact continuously depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle lurched forward and jerked while responding. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the second dealer, malloy Chevrolet (2700 valley Ave, winchester, va 22601), where the failure recurred. The vehicle was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600. The VIN was unavailable.
