While idling at a traffic light I notice the "engine overheated - idle engine" came on. This has happen on a numerous of occasions. I've taken it in to be checked but everything works fine. It continues to do this at least once a week now. There has to be a recall for because I've researched and found that many other chevy Cruze owners have the same problem happening to them.

Over the last 3 years, I have had the same issues occurring. The engine overheats and a message that reads "a/c off high engine temp" appears. The hose was replaced, and it was ok for awhile, but the problem has reoccurred twice more. The engine gasket cover had to be replaced as well, and looks like it is leaking again, and over the last 3 years randomly, a message will appear that states to service stabiltrak. I've had a coil pack replaced and the message went away, but reappears every now and then, and upon start up of car most days, runs very rough and I have to wait a minute before putting into gear. The overheating and rough engine problems keep reocurring no matter what work I have done to it. Most recent issues with the ac off again, as of today, 12/8/2020.
I just had work done on the engine for the 5th time in the last 2 years. All repairs are related to the engine overheating or not regulating properly. The first time there was smoke coming from the engine. The repairs to the engine have cost me almost $3000 and that is not including normal maintenance. The most recent issue is the turbocharger bypass valve. I had it replaced on 6/27/20 and the light came back on with the same code on 6/28/20. When I had work done at the chevy dealership in August/September of 2019 I was told that this is a common problem they are seeing in almost all chevy Cruzes. I've been told this at 5+ different device centers while getting repairs done on the engine or general maintenance done. The car hasn't even reached 100,000 miles and I'm being told I probably need a new engine. This is not ok. I've bought and repaired this car at chevy dealerships. All my engine issues happen when the car is in motion, and the car shakes a lot due to the engine overheating even though the temperature gage reading is normal. Some of my repairs were done with the wrong VIN number recorded. The repairs were recorded under my 2014 chevy Cruze. It shared the same license plate but the 2014 Cruze was totaled in 2017.

My car keeps saying ac turning off due to engine overheating but the actual car is not overheating, but the coolant in the reservoir is boiling and leaving the compartment quickly. When I drive a while, I can see steam coming from the side where the coolant is located and it is boiling once I opened it.

The contact turned off the air conditioner; however, several minutes later, an "engine overheating" message displayed. The contact parked the vehicle, turned off the engine, and waited ten minutes. The contact was able to drive the vehicle without any warning messages appearing. However, later in the day, the engine overheating message displayed again. While I was driving on the highway, a warning came on saying that my a/c was turned off because my engine was overheating and my check engine light came on. My temperature gauge was on cold. When I first took my car to the dealership, they could not figure out what was wrong. They cleared the codes and told me to come back if the warning came back on. Three weeks later, the warning came on again when driving on the highway. The first time the warning came on, I had been driving for about 6 hours. After the codes were cleared, the warning came back on when I had been driving for about 2. 5 hours. In the two weeks between the warning coming back on and when I took it back to the dealership, sometimes the warning would come on right away when I turned on the car. Other times, it would take 10 mins of driving before it would come on. When I drove, the temperature gauge would fluctuate between cold and halfway between cold and hot. After fluctuating for a few minutes, it would go to cold and the warning would come on. I took it back and the dealership told me that my coolant thermostat sensor and housing needed replacing. The car had error codes p0118 and p0117. As this problem could cause my engine to overheat and it seems like it is a common problem with the chevy Cruze, I do not understand why there has not been a recall yet. The warning occurred with a little less than 55,000 miles on the car.

While driving car message center says engine overheated, please idle engine. After examining vehicle, find there was no coolant in vehicle. Before coolant gets to empty there should be a low coolant warning to prevent the vehicle from being overheated. No low coolant warning. Filled up coolant.
Engine overheating after 10 minutes of driving, car engine used to stop while driving and have multiple repairs to fix vehicle after my mom passed. I have spent over $5,000 in repairs easily for this vehicle and same issue and not even chevy dealership able to fix.
Was driving the Cruze, a message flushed in screen "ac turned off due to high engine temp" ac was not on, heat was not working, turned off blower, the screen changed to engine overheated idle engine, then changes to partial power loss and the car became sluggish, I had to continue driving until a safe place was available to pull off, then the reactions control light started blinking and my oil life indicator told me to change oil before returning to the partial power loss message. I towed to dealer.
The contact owns 2011 Chevrolet cruise. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated as the engine overheated. The failure occurred while the contact was shutting off the air conditioner, which caused the front window to become fogged. The failure occurred on one occasion. A/c off do to high engine temp engine overheating messages on dash. False. Sticking thermostat.
Vehicle shutdown while driving on highway, several times. The car electric turns off and or flashes, stabiltrak lights come on and flashes, check engine flashing, car completely shuts down, steering is electronic or motor powered and is hard to use, transmisiion jerks before shutdown and breaks dont work very well. Ran over curb and off the road to avoid colliding with other vehicles. Picture, im driving on a highway at night doing 65 or so, all power goes out, its dark, other cars can not see me well, they are swerving and im swerving. This happened first around 20k and has happened on several occasions after. No corrections offered by gm under warranty, complaints were completely ignored, until murdock chevy in manhattan KS. They are currently trying to get it fixed and gave me a loner car, all other servicing dealers refused a loaner car, and told me its fixed each time. Car still has the problems listed and no solution is given from gm or chevy to fix this deadly situation. Also damage to the car from an engine overheat or dashboard overheat at the same time damaging electric, windshield, radio, guages and dash compartment lever. Extreme heat, burning smell inside. Floorboard by the feet melts carpet and burns feet, all at the same time, on drives of 30 minutes or more.
I was driving home and out of nowhere my 2012 chevy Cruze dings and says "engine overheating a/c turned off," I was very surprised but kept driving and literally one minute later the car dings again. There is a different message that says "idle engine overheating," at this point I am very worried and I pull over and call the chevy dealership that I bought the car from and explain what has occurred. I was advised to bring the car into the service department. So, I start the car up and begin the drive over to the dealership that is about 15 minutes away because of traffic. Not three minutes into the drive I get the same message "idle engine overheating," I'm very nervous but keep going and about two minutes later I get a new message "shut engine off engine overheating. " I call the dealership and they tell me that I am close enough that I should just continue and drive to the dealership. I get about 200 yards from the entrance of the dealership and my engine starts smoking. I have had this car for less than seven months and I basically only use it to drive to work and school. I take very good care of my vehicles, I get the oil changed every 4,000-5,000 miles, in fact I got an oil change less than a week ago.
6 to 8 recalls. . . And the transmittion jurks when you take off from a stop since day one. Keep taking to dealer and they claim to not find anything. (1/17/2011-now) the brake peddle switch had to be replaced. (1/2014) the spark plugs and coil pack had to be replaced due to the spark plug being tightened to tight from the factory! engine light came on indicated the service traction control system. (3/12/2014) was driving home from work as always and the engine light came on and indicated that the ac cut off due to engine over heating. (3/21/2014) this car has been a lemon from day one. It stays in the dealer service more that we drive it. . .
