4 Water Pump problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/23/2020

I have an 2013 chevy Cruze 2lt 1. 4l engine. I discovered an oil leak upon my last oil change at 55,000 miles. Recently I discovered a second oil leak at the valve cover at 60,000 miles. I took it to the chevy dealership to have diagnosed and they confirmed a multi location oil leak, one at the cam cover and the second at the valve cover. Since this vehicle is under standard mileage for the age, this seems to be an indication of defect and not under normal maintenance. I am looking to have this covered by gm under extended special parts warranty like the water pump is covered. I also had a oil cooler fail and a water outlet assembly fail at 40,000 just outside of the factory warranty, but that just happened to be covered under extended warranty but does not change the fact that another failure happened in two's. I have a case # with gm and it is 9-6323496598 cam shaft cover seal and valve cover gasket failure. Feel free to call me, brock meldon at 412-559-4274.

5 Water Pump problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

New 2016 Cruze limited, 2 years after the purchase of the car, water pump and thermostat housing replacement(covered by the drive-train warranty),2 years later, car overheats again, I am apparently losing water but not evident in the engine compartment, I take it back to the dealer, told them what I thought was happening again and they conducted an analysis for which I had to pay $96. 00, (car has 72,000 miles, out of warranty) telling me the same thing I had already figured out, that I need a new water pump and thermostat housing. They tell me it will cost me about $870. 00. To replace the water pump and thermostat. Now understand, my wife and I bought this car on good faith that it was going to be something that we could rely on. I am retired and she is disabled. I needed a dependable mode of transportation. When we first bought it, it was great. But back to our dilemma, after I was given the estimate, I told them I did not have that kind of money for the repair, and they made sure the coolant was full and I limped it back to my house. I purchased a new water pump, thermostat housing, and a water outlet assembly and replaced it myself. I am an experienced mechanic. After replacement, while on our way to an appointment the next day, the car over heated again. Got it back to the house, found no leaks, bled the system to make sure there was no air in the lines. Drove it the next day and the engine stopped on me on the road while I was driving, it would not re-start. Checked the oil dipstick and found water in engine! some analysis I was given. Had it towed to my house. Here we are with a 4 year old car, 72,000 mile engine and it is done. We live on social security and I still owe payments. Why weren't these cars recalled if they knew so many people were having this cooling problem on the cars? now what do we do? I don't want to make payments on a broken car!.

10 Water Pump problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

Message "a/c off, engine too hot" and fan running like crazy. Quick google search tells me this is a popular problem with this vehicle. Most suggestions said it would be a sensor. Changing the sensor worked for 3 days before problem came back. Just 6 months ago I had to replace the water pump and thermostat housing for an overheating issue as well.

11 Water Pump problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

June 2020 - car began popping up with the alert "a/c off due to high engine temp" - upon checking the car had coolant so replaced the thermostat. July 2020 the issue kept occurring and I began having to put coolant in the vehicle every few days. Took to another shop who said it was leaking from a hose - replaced hoses. Aug 2020 - issue continued and then stopped holding water all together - had to replace water pump, rez, thermostat, and various belts/hoses - drove the car for three days when the message popped up again. Took it back to the shop and was told that (despite it being 1 owner car) "someone" had put stop leak in it and it made the thermostat stick. They flushed the engine and replaced the thermostat again and the car drove for 1 week before the issue kept occurring. This time it started having trouble cranking and caused a blown head gasket. So now after 8 months and $3,500 I have replaced everything that could possibly make it overheat/have a coolant issue and had the entire engine rebuilt - hopefully this time it fixes the issue. This is a known issue and needs to be addressed.

15 Water Pump problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 04/13/2020

Multiple incidents of overheating spanning over the period of a few years now: water pump, coolant housing, valve cover gasket, and most recently turbo charger coolant lines have all been replaced. Have not contacted manufacturer because the information everywhere says there are no recalls for this obviously very common problem! doesn't seem fair at all. This issue has left me stranded in traffic, on side of highways, having to call someone countless times, not to mention the repair and alternate transportation fees. I mean, what does it take to make something important enough to issue a recall for?!?!!.

16 Water Pump problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 12/24/2019

Car has 66062 miles sitting turned on the car hoses started leaking and the car started smoking from under the hood. Towed it to the my shop for a pressure test they advised it would have to go the dealer for a coolant hose problem they could not address. Towed it to the chevy dealer. Repairs done water pump replacement and the water outlet hoses were leaking. I researched this problem and this was a recall for the very same model only for the years 2011-2014. The 2016 models should be included in that recall as well but were not. I have researched many of the very same complaints for the 2016 models but no recall yet. Recall was 1/2015 bulletin #14371b -engine coolant leak from water pump. #.

I was driving for approximately 10 to 20 minutes when the indicator on the dash reads that the car is to hot yo drive and will shut down left me stranded on the road side. I take it to chevy dealer to learn there has been a thermostat problem I get the issue repaird it runs ok for a while then again same problem (over heated) one again. Take again to chevy dealer they tell me it's the water pump. I have the water pump repaired. All is ok for a short while. Again the same issue I call chevy dealer again to bring my car back for the 4th time. They schedule my appt. To look at my car one again and on my way to the dealer car over heats turns its self off and will not start back after cooling down. Finally I get the car to the deal to learn that it blew the head gasket and now because it' over headed so many times I now need an engine!!! there has been extend warranty on all of the cooling parts of the engine and this issue should also be covered however the dealer will not fix the caused problem from the faulty parts !!!!!! ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 3 - VIN corrected, error in one position (assuming check digit is correct); 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

Did a google search and come to find out several complaints on this happening to this year and make of vehicle. My car has 57,000 miles on it and many complaints have been sent out by others of this issue. I think its time to take action as this is obviously a big problem with this vehicle. The water pump in my 2014 chevy Cruze . Started to leak. When I took it in for service they said it and the thermostat and thermostat casing had to be replaced. The vehicle only has 51,000 mi. I found a bulletin #14371 b dated Jan. 2015 that explains a special coverage adjustment for 2011-2014 Cruzes the dealership said that was only for 1. 4l engines not my 1. 8 l engine so it isn't covered. I have found other 1. 8l crude owners on lemon law sites that also claim problems with the waterpumps.

27 Water Pump problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 11/20/2018

Takata recall. The problem is our water pump. The car only has 63,000 miles on it. We had it fixed by a mechanic but can still smell antifreeze the same smell when the water pump went out and check engine light came back on. Hopefully you people can figure this out or if there are more complaints about this problem because it cost us a lot of money and had to cancel appointments because of it. The car was being driven by my wife on the highway when she noticed she didn't have any heat pulled into a driveway and saw lots of fluid around the engine with a strong smell of antifreeze.

28 Water Pump problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Vehicle was taken into gm dealer (larkin-cobb) Chevrolet because it was leaking coolant. Had to add coolant to reservoir at least once a week. Dealer found a small valve dripping on the engine and replaced it. The vehicle was under remaining powertrain warranty at the time of complaint/issue. The vehicle continued to leak after said repair and was brought back to dealer 2 more times and dye test was done and they said they could not find the problem. On the third time the vehicle was taken back again with the same issue. . Loss of coolant. The dealer and gm warranty now want to charge me for cylinder head removal and head gasket replacement. I contended that the car was under warranty at the time of initial repair and the issue was not resolved and should still be fixed under powertrain warranty. Gm warranty rep said no. . . The "date" had expired. Now I have no choice but to pay for repairs that should have been covered under powertrain warranty. . And gm wont "own" up to its warranty. Cant just take the vehicle back because it was setting off "high temperature" code when at idle and also moving. After researching. . These Chevrolet Cruzes have a very bad history of cooling problems. . . Including water pump, turbo seals, and blown head gaskets. Gm should honor thier warrantys and fix the engine and cooling problems with this car. In my opinion, any cooling problem should be fixed because it is badly engineered.

29 Water Pump problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 08/19/2018

Exact same coolant system problems as in the earlier model chevy Cruze recalls. Faulty coolant system, specifically a leaking water pump, inaccurate thermostat and leaking coolant feed and return lines to the turbocharger. So far it has cost me close to $1500 at only 110k miles and I still have to replace the blown head gasket which was the result of the coolant system being unable to cool the engine properly due to the bad water pump. Total lemon, this will be the second time the head gasket is blown within two years.

30 Water Pump problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/29/2018

Water pump failure. The recall on the Cruze is for the years prior and still an issue for the 2015 model.

31 Water Pump problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

When driving my 2015 chevy Cruze down the highway I noticed that the temperature of the car was going up past the normal point and that the heater was no longer working. About 5 minutes later the display said "a/c turned off due to excessive engine heat" and then the car proceeded to go into "limp" mode where it could no longer be driven and told me to pull over and allow it to idle. After a minute or two with the engine temperature not going down, I turned off the car and had it towed to a gm certified mechanic who reported that the water pump had gone out and that the car had been leaking coolant.

32 Water Pump problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 02/28/2018

I went to the dealership service center where I bought my car because my stabilitrak was turning on and off on their self si I report it and when I was there they told me my coolant had a leaking and need to be replaced as long some hose and other parts as water pump that a was also under a recall to but they charged me $ 697. 95 where they shouldn't cuz I was a recall cover under special warranty my car have so I report it to gm where an investigation is being done to they can refund my money and I have proof of all was done to my car because I feel is an abused toward Chevrolet jersey city, NJ doingvthis to me and imagine how many they already had done it. Something need to be done immediately. . . If paperwork need to be provide I have it to be fax.

33 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 02/10/2018

Since November 2016 at 56,000 miles the car has been constantly overheating. The engine coolant flange, water pump, and thermostat have been replaced 2xs. When this happens the car flashes sporadic messages such as a/c off high engine heat, service stabilitrak, change oil, etc. The car also has started leaking oil. Finally on February 10th, 2018 the car had these same issues again and this time the engine went entirely. The car had total engine failure at 83,500 miles and now requires a new engine. This is the worst car I have ever owned and I would never recommend it to anyone. Upon going online everyone has these same exact issues so I have no idea why massive recalls have not been made.

34 Water Pump problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

While driving at approximately 40 mph, I noticed engine coolant leakage had occurred. All the coolant had been evacuated from the reservoir onto the pavement. Vehicle had to be towed to the mechanic shop and evaluated. Mechanic told me that the water pump had leaked all the coolant and had to be replaced along with the thermostat. According to service bulletin 14371a, only model year 2011-2014 are affected. I believe that model year 2015 should be added.

35 Water Pump problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

Water pump leaks and causing the engine to overheat. My car has less than 53,000 miles on it. Found a service bulletin on the issue but for some reason, Chevrolet won't honor it and says my vehicle doesn't qualify for it. Bulletin #: 14371a.
