I have a 2012 chevy Cruze lt, it doesn't even have 75k and I've only had it for 2 years. Driving through north little rock on the interstate my temperature gage shot from cool to red, my car dinged and posted a message a/c off due to high engine temps. My a/c was not on, as I was pulling over another message dinged and my engine power was reduced. I let the car idle as the next message instructed me to do, the temp would not go down. I turned the car off and called for a ride. Thankfully a nlr police officer sat with me until my boyfriend came as I was broke down on a bad side of town. That being said, we had the car towed to our ase independent mechanic to have it diagnosed as we thought it was just the thermostat sticking. Nope! blown head gasket! all because of a faulty water inlet. It is a known problem all across the forums. My mechanic had replaced numerous inlets on these cars and chevy had yet to do a recall. I contacted gm and filed a complaint. They are only replacing faulty water pumps, even though the water pump replacement parts include the water inlet. I was told I had to have it diagnosed by their dealership and after much back and forth finally got the diagnostic fee waived. I received a call today from the dealer informing me that I have a cracked head, warped gasket, and need to replace the engine. This is all due to a defect the manufacturer knows about. To too it off the power train warranty expired in March and my extended warranty expired 5k miles ago. Chevy wants me to pay out of pocket to replace all the damage that occurred from their defect. I am contacting the bbb, my attorney general, and any news outlet I can to get this issue brought to light. With a vehicle just over 5 years old and not even 100,000 miles on it to have to replace an engine is ludicrous.
Got the car from drivetime on 04/25/16 from drivetime in highland indiana. Not even 30 days when I was driving to go to work something popped up on my screen saying a/c cutting off due to engine over heating. I pulled over and called aeverex and pepboys and was told to not drive the car. Aeveree donex had to have a tow company come and have the car towed which my car was in the shop for 2 to 3 days because they didnt have the part. Got my car back on 5/17/16. I have a list of things that had to be done to the car. Now the car is doing the same thing again. A/c cutting off due to over heating. Looked under the hood and the coolant is leaking and the reservoir is empty. It didnt give off no noticed that something was wrong with this car the car. Im taking this car to the shop once again for the same problem. I looked online and come to find out the 2011 chevy Cruze has a recall on the Cruze due to coolant leaking. I also had taken it to the shop and was told it was the water pump which I already had it replaced once. I also emailed the gm and explained my issue and was told that their was no recall on my car which I find to be untrue. Something is wrong with this car. I also have the papers from pep boys on what was done the 1st time. Once I get it to the shop tommorow I will update what was done again.

I happen to check under my hood to see why I wasn't getting any heat in my car. I then came to realize that there wasn't any coolant, when I was there one 10 days prior at the dealership to get my oil changed and the paper stated that all fluids were checked. I then notified the dealership, and put some coolant in my car so I wouldn't cause any damage to the motor. They check it, claimed there wasn't anything going on with it. And sent me home. I then had a coworker tell me that what I was describing was my water pump. I then notified the dealership again that I was having the same issues, and that I am now smelling coolant in the car and my car act like its ready to stall. . They got me back in and checked what I was complaining about. They found out I was right it was the water pump. . I had found a recall about this whole thing and showed them, and because they checked by VIN number my car didn't have this recall but my car should have. It was for the 1. 4 engine, not my 1. 8. I had my water pump replaced, my thermostat and I am still having issues. This car is only 3 years old and shouldn't have these problems so early. Gm needs to do something for all Cruze owners cause I am tired of spending over 600 dollars and still having issues.

I bought my car March 2015 and I have had nothing but problems since I got it. I still owe $ 8000. 00 on it and the gm company told me my motor is blowed. My father is a mechanic and took a look and said he believes my car jumped time because my water pump quit. Morgan mcclure told me they would fix it but it will cost me 3500 dollars. I think all these cars need to be taken off road and everyone who has had issues should get placed in another car. . I am paying a total of 17,000 for my car and its not even drivable. I will never by another Cruze and I will let everyone know the issues so they don't buy one earthier. Ive been ripped off with this car since the day I bought it . This is exactly what happened to my car. . I drove my car to work with no issues. When I got off work I crank my car and drove it to morgan mcclure to get a reservoir cap for my car because it wouldn't tighten down like it was stripped. I cut my car off went in to morgan mcclure and bought cap. Put it on and my car wouldn't crank back. They looked at car and charged me $35. 00 for looking at it for 2 seconds to tell me it has no compression and my motor is blowed. They told me they can fix it but I need a new or used motor and it will cost $3500. 00.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that an abnormal burning odor emitted from the vehicle and it overheated. In addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated to respond and the brakes made an abnormal noise. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat and water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Very strong odor of coolant inside the car, brought it in to the dealer and they have replaced the water pump, heater core, did a pressure test on the coolant system and did a scab job of running a hose from my reservoir tank to under the car. I'm still getting coolant vapors into the car. Dex-cool has a safety warning about breathing antifreeze vapors. Inhalation: avoid breathing vapors or mists. Higher temperatures may generate vapor levels sufficient to cause adverse effects.
Over heating. 3 times in 3 years. I have had to have water pump replaced and thermometer. Mechanic has told me he doesn't understand this issue. Car doesn't cool down in idle. Directed me to dealership. 1 st time occurred I took it to closed shop. Dealership said it's not covered cause they didn't do the work. It wasn't like I could get it to them the car was shutting down. Next time I got it back to same mechanic as it was still warranty. This time they replaced same items no charge said take it to dealer they don't know what cause is. I know of other people that had a chevy cruz with same issues and they traded it in. This has been a terrible car. These kind of problems occurred in the 80s not the 2000s.
Existing recall recall number: 12v288000 applies to my vehicle despite my VIN not qualifying for this recall. I have had to replace several parts relating to engine cooling including a water pump on two occasions within 9 months. It is well documented with my gm service center (bergstrom gm of neenah, WI 920. 722. 1111) and other certified mechanics that oil has been found and cleaned out of several areas of my engine including: the turbo charger, intake manifold, throttle body, charge air cooler and its inlet and outlet pipes, and cylinders. In addition, my thermostat has failed and does not notify me of an over-heating issue. An overheating engine that leaks oil throughout with no warning from the thermostat is a recipe for disaster.
Practically every day I drive my car, I experience extreme shifting and transmission issues. Specifically, I have to floor the gas pedal for the car to move from 2nd to 3rd shift. This is an automatic car, and it drives like a poorly shifting manual. It is extremely unsafe to drive because it does not accelerate when I hit the gas pedal, rather the engine revs very high and loudly, yet the car does not accelerate. It also has made loud popping sounds from the engine, and the car fills with an exhaust smell, and during the winter coolant smell is obvious in and outside the car. I am very uncomfortable driving-and feel unsafe-driving this car and it is almost four years old with less than 50,000 miles! I have brought it to the dealership on the below dates and they cannot ?duplicate the issue?, thus have not fixed it. On one occasion, the dealership had my car for 3-weeks! I have no idea if the dealership is even daily testing, or driving, the car. I do know, however, it is extremely unsafe because the shifting and accelerating is unreliable and will most doubtable cause an accident injuring myself and/or others. I have also called gm and numerous occasions and they were very unhelpful, stating they never heard of a shifting/transmission issue with the chevy Cruze, when in fact the 2011 chevy Cruze was recalled for shifting lock cable. I have received, unsolicited; a letter from a lawfirm to sue gm noting this exact issues shifting/power issues (amongst faulty water pumps, which I also had replaced after only owing the car 2-years), so clearly there are many others experiencing these issues. Dates brought my car to (sullivan's oneills in avon, CT) 1/16/2015; 5/2/2015; 5/09/2015;5/13/2015; 6/24/2015; 7/17/2015 my gm service tickets are 71-1490864298 & 71-1490864298. The car is either a lemon, or needs to be recalled for shifting/transmission issues.
On April 21 2015, right rear brake was squealing took to dealership and they cleaned and adjusted rear brakes. Car had 21804 miles at the time. On may 10, 2016 took car back to the dealership had 559990 miles the car started to over heat. The water pump was leaking and they replaced the pump. Back to the dealership on may 31, 2016 57300 miles check engine light was on and car had a miss. It had a leading valve cover and intake manifold.
Looses power when sitting at light, doesn't quite shut off, constant belt squealing, engine light coming on, taken back to dealership on 3/21/15 because the engine light came back on, belt still squealing, engine still hesitating and losing power. Dealership replaced knock sensor and drive belt tensioner. Taken back on April 3, squealing still, making a loud sound when you turn the car off, still having hesitation problems. Dealership replaced water pump and harmonic balancer. Taken back again, still hesitating, dying down in power still, making sound when you shut the engine off still. Taken back again, replaced seal in engine that was being sucked into intake. Still having problems with hesitation, power dying down and no pick up or acceleration.
I was driving home from work in rush hour traffic. My speed dropped without warning from 35 mph to about 5 mph. I got a warning light indicating "engine power reduced" and the engine indicator light came on. I managed to pull car over to a side street and turned it off. I restarted it and the engine indicator light came on but I was able to make it home (about 12 miles). I called the service department at a local dealership to try to get some sort of idea of what was happening to my car. He suggested I call gm customer service and asked how many miles were on the car. I told him and he indicated the problem may be under a recall. Needless to say 5 days later I just heard from the service center that the problem is the throttle body assembly and it will cost me about $600+taxes to repair. He stated I have heavy carbon build up and something about the induction service. My biggest problem outside of not having six hundred dollars to give is that in November I paid $300+ to have the water pump replaced and three weeks before that it was in the shop and threee weeks prior to that it was in the shop. I am so disappointed and hurt by all these repairs. I ended up with a Cruze because my kia was hit head on in a crash and the frame was cracked. I had no problems with my kia.
Yes, I too had problems with my 2011 chevy Cruze. I was very glad that nothing happened to me while I was driving the car, I was just sitting at an idle stage; when I had all the bells going off and it had told me that engine reduced power. I to had to go and get this fixed and again like everyone else it was the throttle body and fuel injection system; cost $460. Not even a month later now I have no heat in the car and reading all the forums sounds like I am going to have to replace a water pump; joy for me. At first I really did love this car, but I find that the after the warranty goes seems like the car is falling apart. We should not be having these issues this early in the car's life. I also find it very bad poor customer service on gm's part that they are turning a blind eye to this. These parts need to be recalled ASAP, why is no one doing anything about this?.
Water pump had to be replaced due to leak, computer reprogramed to fix steering wheel catch, battery terminal cable replaced for unknown reason. All this on a brand new 2014 Cruze. Wtf? not to mention initial drive shaft repairs. Thought this was an american made car with quality american parts, worst first new car buyer experience ever. Make it right gm.
Vehicle has had water pump replaced earlier this year under warranty - and had the turbo charger replaced last week under warranty. Not covered under warranty last week was a "leaking" battery. Since battery was original - I felt it was worth replacing. Yesterday, while driving to work, the check engine light came on and the heater stopped working. Today - the dealer calls me and states that they need to replace a hose and outlet. There was no leak yesterday - and they state that there is a leak and this is the reason. They want $250 for repairs. The hose was fine yesterday - and the outlet should have been replaced with the water pump (actually they should have replaced the hose at that time also). No response from gm quality care. Over $500 in the last two weeks - and I am not certain that this issue is over. It has also had two computers replaced when I first got it.
Strong smell of antifreeze while driving, strong smell of antifreeze under the hood, antifreeze leaking on serpentine belt and sprayed around engine compartment. Dealer replaced water pump.
While driving home noticed that the temp gauge was moving and then as I slowed in traffic the gauge went from cool to hot within seconds. Warning came up on dash that ac was being powered off due to overheating and then suddenly it was gone and the ac came back on and the gauge dropped. Within 10 minutes the same warning happened again but the temperature gauge did not move and the check engine light came on. Ended up being the water pump which was covered under warranty.
Failure of water pump. On the morning after normal work commute of 60 miles, found spilled coolant under vehicle. Gm service replaced the water pump under warranty. Vehicle only had 25k miles and the water pump failed-unacceptable.
I purchased the 2011 chevy Cruze with approx 55 k. When I drove the car at the lot everything seemed to be in good working order. The next day I kept hearing a surge like sound in the engine and when the accelerator was pushed the car would not gain any speed or power. I contacted the dealer and explained what was going on with the car and was told that this was common in the chevy Cruzes because of the engine size and that why the car is able to get such great gas mileage. I could not stand the noise any longer March 19, 2014 I took the car to the dealers service department where car was purchased. I informed them of the issues I was having with the surging sound and the loss of speed & power. The next day informed me they could not hear any surging sound and only found 1 problem leaking thermostat. I was referred to the gm dealer to get fixed under the powertrain warranty. It has not even been a full year since I purchased this car. On April 7th 2014 I was driving on the freeway during rush hour and all of sudden I hear a dinging sound all the engine lights came on, along with the hazards lights and the car began to lose power, the center panel kept reading transmission hot idle engine. I had not had any other previous warnings, all the gauges appeared to be normal with no sign of over heating. I contacted the chevy dealer and took the car down right away. Explained to them what happened and the issues the diagnoses that was given from the service dept where car was purchased. The next day the chevy dealer contacted me and said they had replace the water pump. Also the transmission had burnt oil and needs to be flushed and it was not covered under the warranty. They too could not find anything else wrong as to why transmission is running hot,not even with the surging sound and lose of power. April 11th 2014 had the same issues again.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the steering wheel seized as the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but the failure was unable to be determined. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be serviced under a safety recall related to the electrical system and the technician informed the contact that the water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the technician also informed the contact that the water pump housing was cracked and needed to be replaced but was not repaired. The contact also mentioned that when the heat was turned on, an odor of antifreeze and fuel emitted inside the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000. Ss.
My children & I almost didn't make it home! was experiencing issues with the heat not heating up the car on Tuesday and on yesterday, I was driving north on the 394 expressway and received an error message on my dashboard of "a/c shut off due to high temperatures" so I turned the heat off and the gauge slowed moved back down. However, after driving a short distance further the temperature gauge had moved all the way to the "red" line and I receive the error message to "shut the engine down" because of overheating. I immediately pulled and slowly the gauge moved back to the normal position. I called the dealership that worked on my car less than 3 weeks ago and the service advisor informed me that it may be another glitch but he wanted to ensure that all of my fluids were fine and since I wasn't very far from the dealership to bring the car in (even though their service dept was closing in about 20 mins). After looking at the car, the service advisor informed that just about all of the coolant ran out and there was probably an issue with the water pump. I was shocked, bothered & frustrated because it had been less than a month that I just had to have this car worked on. Fortunately, the water pump didn't cost me anything due to it still being under warranty but that still doesn't change the fact that I'm a very dissatisfied customer.
Took vehicle in for oil change, had to do "heavy engine repair" per technician, replaced water pump and seal as it was found leaking. Refilled with coolant.
Took the car to dealer for car wash ,after doing complimentary multi point inspection they called me and told me my water pump was leaking. They replaced the water pump on a car with only 10801 miles.
On 12/12/13 my problems with my 2011 chevy Cruze began. The engine began making a humming noise, the check engine light would come on intermittently, it began to randomly lose power and overheat. On 12/20/13 3-way Chevrolet replaced the cam phase and water pump. On 01/01/14, the vehicle began making the same humming noise but louder and had a consistent loss of power. On 01/08/14, 3-way replaced the turbo charger. I picked up th vehcile on 01/09/14 and within 1 hour the check engine light came back on. I took the vehicle back to 3-way on 01/10/2014 and did not get the vehicle back until 02/20/2014. During that time, the cylinder head and valves were replaced, pistons and rings were replaced, injectors and coils were swaped from another vehicle and the car still had misfire. A gm engineer was brought in and the turbo charger was replaced again and the oil feed line was plugged. On 02/21/14, I noticed fluid in my driveway. The car is leaking something and the power is still not consistent. I contacted 3-way late Friday and am waiting for a call back. I have be inconvienced beyond words, the vehicle is unsafe and I want gm to purchase the car back.
2013 chevy Cruze 1lt with the 1. 4 turbo engine. I have actually owned two of these cars, the first was a 2011. The complaint is about both and I suspect is the same in every one of these cars that have the 1. 4 turbo. My complaint is about a possible health hazard with these vehicles. They emit antifreeze fumes constantly and gm is now claiming that this is normal and they will not fix it. Shortly after I purchased the 2011 model I began to notice the smell of hot antifreeze every time I would drive the vehicle, I took it in for service several times and they done everything possible to fix it with no luck. Finally after about two years of dealing with this I got tired of it and traded it off for a 2013 same model. I know that sounds stupid and was but my reasoning was that I loved the car and thought that surely gm had corrected this issue by now(I was very wrong). Shortly after my purchase of the 2013 I began to smell the antifreeze again and again began the process with gm to get it fixed but as before, no luck. Finally after fighting with it for several months gm has called me back and said that the smell is normal operation for this vehicle. According to them the water pump is designed to leak a small amount and the leakage is caught in a retention chamber built into the water pump them evaporated out via the heat of the engine causing the constant smell. This is redicualas! I strongly believe that sniffing these hot antifreeze fumes all the time can't be good for you and will in the long term cause health issues. With this answer I ask gm to take the car back or at least let me trade it for another model but they are unwilling to help me any more. I know that this problem is wide spread, not just with my vehicle. If you go to Cruzetalk. Com and research this you will find hundreds of other people with the same complaint. Thank you for looking into this for us.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. While driving at 20 mph, the contact noticed a chemical odor coming from the air vents in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. However, the failure recurred and the contact noticed that there was no coolant in the reservoir. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the hose from the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Strong odor of coolant entering the interior of car when heater is used. Becomes stronger if window is open while driving . Odor is not present when at standstill. Open opening hood with engine off odor can be sensed near the water pump area. Dealer replaced water pump a week ago to remedy the problem. The vehicle has 28 k on it.
