Check Engine Light On problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

The failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was not available. Ap.

I just recently bought a 2011 chevy Equinox lt awd, and soon after I began driving it, the check engine light came on with code p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Chevy had issued special coverage adjustment 15810 in August 2016 with regard to the catalyst system, but the mileage was over the coverage limit of 120,000 when the sca was issued, and chevy won't cover the issue now.

While driving, the check engine light came on and the car died in the middle of the road. Had to coast to the side of the rode. Restarted drove another 2 miles and it died again. Got it to keep running although it tried to die and took to dealer for repair. This car is a death trap. With all of the complaints, can't figure out how chevy can continue to allow this to happen. I assume when someone dies because of this issue, they may do something then.

On March 24 my check engine light came and the vehicle died several times and I took it to the mechanic. He called the next day and said the oil was completely gone and the engine was ruined. I have changed the oil every 3-4000 miles religiously and now this? I was told it would cost $6000 to replace the motor.

My vehicle randomly dies while driving. At 94500 ck engine light came on. Had one solenoid replaced and changed the oil. A week later the engine stalled a few times in a parking lot. No check engine light was on. Replaced a 2nd solenoid. 3/5/19, a week little over a week it stalled 5 times in a parking lot. Pd again to have mechanic scan it nothing showed up. 3/7/19 changed the spark plugs. 3/9/19 drove to milwaukee. Got there check engine light came on,stabil trek light & engine power reduced notification. An hour later seemed fine. On the way home all the same lights came on in rolling traffic had to pull off bc it died a couple of times. Let it sit a bit then started home again. After about 5 miles going 60mph on the interstate in a snow/rain storm the vehicle died, while driving it. I barely got it to the shoulder of the interstate. A state trooper had to sit behind for safety. Bc of the storm the tow truck was 90 minutes out. This was a life threatening situation. I could have been hit & killed. Hauled to a mechanic 50 miles away. Code reader (attached) showed 5 errors but couldn't find anything wrong that caused the problem. Took it to a certified gm dealership. The mechanic couldn't replicate the issue so doesn't know what it wrong. Had the timing chain replaced but mechanic didn't think that was the issue. I am afraid to drive it because it could randomly die again in heavier traffic on the interstate and to me is life threatening. There are so so many people commenting online with the same problem that this vehicle should be recalled before people do die if it hasn't happened already. I have only owned this vehicle 5 months and have had it to the mechanic at least 5 times. I don't want to unload this death trap on someone else but I am afraid to drive it for fear of losing my life or someone else's.

I got a check engine light and I went to get it tested and it says that it is a exhaust position timing issue. No mechanic can fix it because it was a design issue by the manufacturer. I noticed that the car has been jerking around when I drive, it won't back up and it backfires and I'm terrified of driving it.

I was traveling on the service road when my car suddenly stalled without notice. I was almost hit by vehicles traveling behind me. The car started up right away and I was able to park safely. The check engine light is now on and it shows a code for a bad solenoid. This is a prominent problem with this car, I have seen numerous people complain on various websites about this issue. I just want to know why this car is still out on the road. It is unsafe. It will kill someone eventually. I am now scared to drive this vehicle and will trade this vehicle in.

The vehicle was towed to a local dealer community Chevrolet Buick located at 4521 university Ave, cedar falls, IA 50613 (319) 277-5010 where diagnosed that the engine control module failed and that the throttle bottle assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case # 84120242638 and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 114,744. Ap.

I called in this complaint. Received a number odi11090436. On 2/01/2018 after dark I was on a 4-lane going 60-65 mph. , my car's acceleration suddenly went down and the engine started chugging. I braked, drove to the side of the road and parked. No chugging while in park. Had to be towed to a chevy dealership in cedar falls, IA. They had to replace the throttle body assembly. When asked how often this particular shop sees this specific break-down, the service manager said a couple times a month. It seems to me that if they are seeing this many, that other dealerships would be seeing this pattern repeated as well. My question is why hasn't this issue been flagged to general motors? I was lucky that there was no one close behind me on the highway. It was a sudden event, the check engine light and a couple of other lights came on, it startled me and it took a second or two to begin braking. This was a costly fix and not one I would expect to have to repair with 114,744 miles on the vehicle.

Stalling out while sitting in drive at red light. Got up for work and turned truck on, sounded very rough. Put truck in reverse and took off and when stopping at a red light the rpms would move on their own, car starts bouncing, motor is rattling, and sometimes stalls out. I have to put the truck in neutral at every light for it to not rock back and fourth. Next day check engine light came out, readings indicated it was the throttle sensor body and the solenoids. I replaced all of these and truck is still running the same, and check engine light is still on. After doing research I have read well over 50 of the same complaint of these vehicles doing the same thing! we need help!.

This vehicle stalled in traffic. After 3 stalls the check engine light came on. The trouble was the timing chain after only 50k miles. Cost was $1680. I feel this was dangerous and I should not have been charged.

The timing chain on our Equinox broke and damaged the engine. Gm says our VIN is not covered under the NHTSA reference #10053269 and TSB reference #sb-12313. Our shop said the damage is exactly what is covered under those documents, but no protection due to VIN outside of range. The vehicle started showing problems with the check engine light on and the stabilitrak system error. Parked the vehicle and turned it off. When tried to start again, the vehicle did nothing. Had towed to repair shop for damage assessment.

The 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinox is under recall, except for mine. I own a 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinox that has every problem as the one that is being recalled. Gm is telling me that there are no defective parts on my car, even though my car has been stalling while driving, while turning, while stopping. My car has everything wrong with it that is listed on the recall. The pvc system, water in the air box. Our mechanic took out 1/2 cup of water out of the air box yesterday. In addition, the car consumes mass amounts of oil. This vehicle will give you no warning and then just stall out. Last year, my car stalled while driving and then a reduced engine power light came on. I ended up having to replace the throttle body at not even 90,000 miles. This car poses a threat to the person driving as well to any other car that may be near it as there is no warning given that stalling may occur. No check engine lights come either. No low oil lights. Nothing. I took my car in yesterday because it stalled 7 times on my route to work. My mechanic was able to diagnose the problem and found the problems with the 2011 Equinoxes. I have been turning and just had my car shut off, I have pushed the gas pedal and had nothing happen. I have had my car stall out to check the oil and find no oil on the dipstick. I have stopped for traffic and my car will just shut off. Gm has told us on more than one occasion there are no recalls on my car. Just other 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinoxes reporting the same problem.

Was sitting at a stop light, vehicle engine started surging and a warning light came on saying reduced engine power, had to really push on the break so it would not lunge into the inter section, light turned green and I started to go, but I could only get up to 25 mph, then all the warning lights on the dash came along with a service stabilitrak message, managed to get to a parking lot and shut off the vehicle for a few minutes, started it back up and it ran better but check engine light remained on. Took it to the chevy dealer, he new before even looking at it what it was. Ended up being the throttle body, if you look online there are many Equinox vehicles with this problem. But gm will not cover this under their power train warranty even though this is what supplies air to the engine.

While driving the display on the dash displayed the words "powering down" and then the car proceeds to slow to a complete stop. All while I'm driving on the freeway in traffic. The chevy dealership in mckinney, el dorado, advised me that the engine simply fell apart and broke. I just got a tune up and oil change within the past 60 days. . . How can an engine just fall apart with no indication, no check engine light, no smoke, etc.

While driving the car stalled out. The check engine light came on and the possible cause was a cam shaft sensor. But on further investigation it was because the car was low on oil. There was no indication from the vehicle information system that the car did not have any oil. It just stopped without warning three times, always after slowing down for a turn. This is very unsafe, I was almost hit twice!.

After taking the car out from a stop sign, the steering wheel locked and could not accelerate. The car started to slow down. I was able to put the gear on park once the car stalled and turn off the ignition. I then turned on the ignition and everything was normal. For a third time in 2 weeks, the vehicle loss power and failed to maintain speed. It would not even move forward when given gas even though the engine continued running. This time, the check engine light did not come on. The vehicle had to be turned off, then re-started, for movement to be regained. This happened in heavy traffic and blocked a lane for a couple of minutes, until I could pull off the road. This happened on previous occasions at highway speed too, but, we had more recently replaced the throttle body unit, as this was a prior diagnosis for this failure condition. Now, we're not sure the vehicle can be trusted at all.

My 2011 chevy Equinox started having trouble when starting the engine. I would start the car and all my emergency lights would start flashing. Emergency blinkers, airbag service light, stability track and check engine light. I would start to drive and the car would just stall out. Started accelerating & when I got to 55 mph the vehicle started losing power rapidly & service stabilitrak light along with reduce engine power came up on the dash. I went from 55 mph to 20 mph within seconds. I was able to pull onto the side of the road. I tried to merge back onto the highway but was unable to go faster then 16 mph. I quickly pulled back over & parked the car. Shut the car off & waited about 1 min & turned the car back on. The stabilitrak & the reduce engine power cleared off my dash but the check engine light stayed on. I then was able to merge back into traffic & pick up the 65 mph speed. I continued to work & had no other issues until I pulled into my work parking lot. Thats when the stabilitrak & reduce engine power came back on & I lost power again. I parked the car & called the dealrshp. They told me to bring the vehicle in. It didnt duplicate the issue the whole way to dealrshp. The next day they called me to let me know they replaced a sensor & updated the computer with software. I drove the vehicle & it seemd fine. Week later had the same issue. Got about 5 mins into my trip & was on the interstate going 60 & all of a sudden the service stabilitrak & the reduce engine power light came back on & the vehicle dropped my speed of 60 to around 17 mph quickly. Thankful that no one was close behind me when this happened. I got off an exit & pulled into a parking lot. Called the dealrshp. This time they sent a flat bed out to get vehicle. They called & said it was a throttle body issue & that it needs replaced. They told me it isnt covered under the pt warranty. I'm seeing a number of people with this same issue & wondering why this isnt a recall? it's very unsafe especially cause you dont know when its going to happen. If your doing 65-70 mph on a highway & there are cars close to you & the vehicle decides to do this, you are in big trouble.

Check engine light came on, had autozone run on computer, came back code p0011, found recall on code in 2011(11195a), car is doing same thing as recall stated, I called gm and they said it was not part of recall, I explained problem and they would not tell if part was under warranty, all they said was take to dealer. Gm told me so ES vins were recalled, but not all, couldn't tell me why this one was not recalled even though it is doing same thing.

Consumer writes in regards to defective vehicle operation and safety the consumer stated the vehicle was returned to the dealer three times, due to it running rough, loss of power, an overwhelming smell of gasoline, a sticky accelerator pedal and the check engine light illuminating. The dealer replaced the high pressure fuel pump, fuel rail pressure sensor and an attempted repair of the pcm and the reprogramming of the tac. The dealer has been unable to resolve the defects.

My engine light came on and then the car lost power. It did start back up again, but the engine light remained on until I got home. I was not on a busy street when this happened. This happened on a Friday. I had it to the dealer on Monday. The dealer did try to find the problem, but the engine light was off and nothing was discovered.
