My engine was making noise so I took it to the shop. They said a bolt broke by the timing chain. Then they said it messed up the block and the engine needs replaced. I would start up my car and I head a rattling noise like something was loose. I would hear the vibration noise.
Car was using excess amounts of oil yet the oil light never came on. I had all regularly scheduled oil changes. It had begun make a clanking/rattling noise during acceleration. When I took it to the dealer to have it looked at, it was completely empty of oil and no oil leak. It was stated that my car had an oil consumption issue per service bulletin 15285c.
"takata recall" my vehicle is have problem with oil consumption, exhaust fumes coming out of the heater and a rattling noise. I took it into the shop in the car mechanic informed me that that the problem is not worth fixing because the year make and model keeps giving problems. He said he worked on the same type of vehicle multiple times in every 2011 chevy Equinox has had the same problems. He said it's not worth putting the money into and that that year was a faulty car and to find out if there was a recall because of the negative reports. I looked online no recall so I'm wondering why multiple vehicles are having the same situation. He said he spoke with my car dealership and they said that this problem is very common. And just today my vehicle engine started smoking. I'm working on getting a problem.
Engine has always made a rattling noise which now I believe loose/worn timing chain. Last week the Equinox was stalling at stop signs. It will start right back up then die again. Once it's takes off it runs fine. We took it to the dealer, they said there were 2 codes. 1 read engine misfire other read intake cam valve actuator (something). The dealer cleared the codes (charged me for clearing codes) and then said there was nothing wrong with car and sent me on my way. Couple days later it dies 3 times in a row at stop. The check engine light comes on and stays on for one day. Next day check engine light goes off and vehicle runs fine. Later that day it dies at stop. I call dealer to get another appointment and they say without check engine light on or it dying for them there isn't much they can do. Do a quick google search of Equinox timing issue and this is a very common issue. Of course now it is 3 months out of the 5year powertrain warranty. I have read where there is an extended warranty for this issue. I have a feeling I'm going to be forced to take it to another dealership after they do nothing for it and charge me to clear any codes.
Chevrolet Equinox 2011 uses excessive amounts of oil. I have to add oil between oil changes. I keep extra oil on hand always. The car makes rattling noise at start up and just doesn't sound good when running. It runs sluggishly. I wasn't aware of the problem. I only had to add oil between changes to my previous car when it was leaking on the ground. I went to have oil changed and there was none on the dipstick. I had no idea. When I add oil the rattling seems to go away for a while. I can't afford to buy another car or replace the motor if the oil consumption causes the need for that.
Equinox with 4 cylinder engine has not worked properly since purchased in July 2011. Engine made loud noise each time started. Returned to dealer several times for problem with no results. In may 2013, engine stalled several times and engine light came on. Dealership replaced cam intake but will not guarantee that future problems may occur. Additionally, this vehicle currently has another issue that may be related to the brake system - whining noise. Dealer has not repaired yet. Will continue to return to dealership repair shop. This vehicle should be recalled.
I bought my 2011 Equinox in Dec. 2011. About 4 months later when I started the car there was a rattle noise which sounded like the starter is not engaging right. I told my dealership about this but they could not duplicate it. I have read other complaints, so I hope gm will investigate this problem. I hope this does not mess up the engine. I have been driving 46 yrs & never have had this problem before. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
