13 problems related to crankcase (pcv) have been reported for the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox based on all problems reported for the 2011 Equinox.
Ice formed in the pcv breather tube, blocking the pcv system, causing pressure buildup and oil to explode out of the oil dipstick tube. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. This issue is specifically addressed in gm's TSB 14882, covering this vehicle. I was told the VIN was not covered, even though this is a 2011 Equinox with a 2. 4l engine and they seem to have a widespread problem with pcv systems freezing up and causing a wide range of problems. I would like to be reimbursed for my tow and repair costs.
On 2. 2. 2019 around 11am I left work restoration hardware outlet 301 w main st, christiana, DE 19702 and drove across the street to get lunch at acme 1 university plaza, newark, DE 19702. It was out and we had a few days of below . As I was leaving the acme parking lot all the lights came on in the dash. I immediatley stopped and shut off car. Across the street was an exxon station on 300 chapman rd, newark, DE 19713. The service person said I was leaking oil. He put in a quart then another it came right back out and said it could be a rear main seal. I did some research and found a special coverage adjustment that stated---- plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold for the 2010-2014 Chevrolet Equinox equipped with 2. 4l ecotec engine (laf, lea or luk) 2. 4l engine (laf, lea or luk) that have experienced high oil consumption may also experience a frozen and/or plugged pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) system during cold weather operation. This condition may increase crankcase pressure leading to a rear crankshaft seal oil leak. I know that gm needed to look at this so I had it towed to diver Chevrolet 2101 pennsylvania Ave, wilmington, DE 19806 (302) 482-8359. Almost a week later they called and said the rear main seal blew out and thats what was stated on the service order. I asked about the March 2015 bulletin no. : 14882 . They said my car was not part of that group and it would be $3200 to fix. I asked how can this be when it clearly is the same issue stated in the bulletin exactly. Cold temps, frozen pvc, blown rear main. I was even told a few car were in during that cold snap with same issue, but those car had ext warranty or were part of the group VIN . So now im here trying to get help from you. This is a known problem and they wont acknowledge it. Im a single mom with 2 kids and I dont know what to do.
Pcv system freezes causing the low power mode (limp mode) and check engine light to come on. Its a known issue, and gm covered it on a few cars. Next time I may be in heavy traffic.
Pcv orifice frozen with ice, caused crankcase overpressurization and blew out rear crankshaft seal, lost all engine oil. Vehicle was on highway at 65 mph.
Vehicle running erratic, oil leaks from rear main seal ,service bulletin 14882 ,problem caused from pcv system, vehicle was in motion in traffic.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 40 mph, the pcv failed and caused the rear seal to blow out. The vehicle had to be towed. The dealer (paddock Chevrolet, 3232 delaware Ave, kenmore, NY 14217) stated that the rear seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not replaced. The manufacturer was also contacted and was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 58,000.
Without warning my check oil pressure light illuminated. I had less than a block to get to the side of the highway before my engine failed. After having it inspected by 3 different inspectors, it was determined that my pcv valve froze and caused my rear main seal to leak all my oil very rapidly. This in turn caused my engine to seize. This pvc issue is a known issue and no recall has been issued. This is something gm needs to take owership of and correct! this is an extreme safety hazard!.
Gm 2. 4 ecotec engine plugged pcv valve. Valve was found by dealer as being frozen shut causing the crankcase to pressurize and blow out the read crank shaft seal costing $1817 to repair. This is not an unknown problem for gm. Other makes and models of a several year span with the ecotec 2. 4 have a service bulletin 14882 to cover total cost of repairs for this exact same problem. Gm is refusing to cover this engine because it wasn't part of the "special recall" issued March 2015. It has become apparent the recall needs to be expanded to cover all the ecotec 2. 4 engines. Had this vehicle been on a highway or heavy traffic the engine would have blown or seized due to lack of oil. This ecotec engine has had many problems resulting in recalls. Timing chains prematurely wearing out to piston rings wearing and causing excessive oil consumption. The vehicle had just started an oil consumption test for this very problem. After a fresh oil change the engine promptly blew out over 4 quarts of oil in less than 15 miles. Had I not checked the oil level for the oil consumption start point the car would have been driven until the engine seized up more than likely causing an accident. . . . . Which brings me to another point. Do I need to contact the epa over the oil leaks on countless gm vehicles? under my estimate this single gm vehicle dumped approximately 2 gallons of synthetic oil to the environment before the problem was diagnosed. How many thousands of gallons are being dumped due to gm refusal to own up to their bad design? I understand this website may be to deal with more safety concerns but gm insisted I file a complaint with you. .
#43180: voluntary product emission recall high pressure fuel pump (Sep 30, 2016) car stalls after idling when pulling out of parking lot or in a slow start up or transitioning from reverse to drive. Causing the vehicle to lose power and maneuverability. The engine mounted high pressure fuel pump in these vehicles may develop excessive wear on the plunger piston shaft and shaft seal. If this happens fuel can leak into the engine oil crankcase and result in the engine running rough and illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp. The issue has been ongoing for past several years.
In 15 degree weather car running rough, then without notice while driving 70 mph on highway car goes to 50% power and barely avoiding getting rear ended I was able to maneuver to side of highway where engine stalled out. Was able to start engine again but 50% power indication remained car had to be towed to dealer. Tech indicated the pcv had clogged causing rear seal to fail and then loss of oil caused timing chain to loosen and then engine failure. $2728. 38 later for timing chain new seals and rod plus bolts. Special coverage exists for this exact failure but was told that my VIN does not match so bulletin 14882 does not apply currently. I do read others with same complaint. . Car only has 67k and have had issues with sensors and already had timing chain replaced at 34k . So approx 30k more am I do for another major failure? not safe to drive when on highway and car stalls out without warning and really pcv valve issue causes seal to leak out oil when 90% oil life remaining . . . Not safe and mine and others with excluded vins need to get covered and refunded in full for the failures related to these pcv valves and excessive engine oil consumption.
It was 7 degrees outside. I drove home from work 20 miles. When I took my exit, the vehicle sounded like a diesel engine (and it's not a diesel). I managed to get home and the vehicle died in the driveway. Had it towed to the Chevrolet dealership. The pcv valve had become clogged and was holding condensation. The pcv valve then froze causing the rear engine seal to blow and most of my oil was blowing out down the interstate. No oil warning light came on. I had no idea there was a problem until I exited the highway and could hear how the engine was running. This was a "known problem" with gm, but not a recall. They even gave me a problem number for it. The vehicle was 5 1/2 years old with 92,000 miles. Since it was out of warranty because of age, gm would not cover the entire repair, but did pay 1/2 of it. But if this was a "known problem", then why wasn't it a recall. I can only get my portion of the repair cost back if this becomes a recall. If you check online, this has happened to many people. I believe this should be a recall item. Also, if I had been told by gm to get the pcv valve cleaned out, trust me I would have. If this is a known problem, why aren't we told to clean out the pcv valve. And, all of the maintenance for this vehicle was done at the Chevrolet dealership where we purchased the vehicle. I was lucky that the vehicle didn't die on the interstate and cause a crash, but it was a miracle that I got home with that vehicle. Also, if they aren't going to correct the issue, then this vehicle should only be sold in warm climates where the pcv valve can't freeze up.
This special coverage, bulletin #14882 is exactly what's going on with my vehicle and I am under the 10-year, 120k time frame. Yet apparently my VIN doesn't match up so I don't get coverage. Https://gm. Oemdtc. Com/1899/special-coverage-adjustment-plugged-pcv-orifice-in-intake-manifold-2010-2014-Buick-Chevrolet-GMC I was sold this vehicle in August of 2016. I complained about excessive oil use via email and my complaint was never addressed. Bulletin 12585c was released between January and March of 2016, so jeff belzer Chevrolet of lakeville, mn sold me this vehicle with the piston issue instead of covering them. Now that I've learned about special coverages, I am outside of the time frame for coverage and I feel slighted and cheated. This is a faulty design and instead of Chevrolet holding a semi-decent standard, I am left with the bill. Https://gm. Oemdtc. I received a letter from Chevrolet (July 2013) explaining that there are issues with numerous engine parts, particularly the fuel pump and balance chain. Chevrolet stated that they are extending my power train warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first. I have had the balance chain replace twice already. I am concerned that the condition with the fuel pump could cause a fire or serious engine damage. The letter from Chevrolet states: "in addition, the fuel pump plunger shaft seal may wear and allow fuel to leak into the crankcase, which would illuminate the malfunction indicator light. This can cause run-on and/or the engine to run rough". I would assume that the engine and oil in the Equinox would reach very high temperatures when they have been operated for a period of time. The introduction of fuel into the crankcase and engine could possibly ignite. Also the failure of the balance chain could cause engine failure under some driving conditions that could leave the car inoperable, causing an accident. I believe chevy should be held accountable for the defective parts and potential danger their failure could cause. Chevrolet should be directed to issue a recall to replace these defective parts. .
