Timing belt broke. A lot of oil consuming the cause of that.
The car always needed oil, and we did know why til the timing belt went and the engine had to be replaced and it cost us over 2850. 00 then we found out gm put a bad spray oiler for the timing belt as for the going through so much oil we are unsure. I did hear of a lawsuit we just would like our money back for the motor replacement it's a very bad lemon gm on the 2. 4 liter engine they made.
1) seatbelt light comes on despite having seatbelts secured. It happens when you start the car and stays on throughout all aspects of driving until the car is turned off. 2) service stabilitrac light intermittently flickers on and off while the radio flickers off and on, as though the vehicle were possessed. 3) the previous engine consumed excessive amounts of oil. It resulted in the previous engine being replaced a few months ago. New engine is burning oil just as fast as the old one. Withing one month the dipstick was registering as below the bottom line with 2 months and approximately 3k miles left before next scheduled oil change, per jiffy lube's sticker.
Regular oil changes at GMC dealership showed high oil consumption. Chevy dealership replaced transmission 2015 under factory warranty. High oil consumption continued. 2018 engine power shuts down car while idling. Took it to my local mechanic replaced transmission. Drove almost 400 miles on "new transmission" ac not working, idles with high pitch sound when fan is running. Now seat belts lights flash and alarm despite seat belts in buckled position. Engine goes to power down /save mode when driving on freeway at 60mph on highway. This power down (reduction) happens stalls and wont drive. Engine continues to shake and rattle after being put in park and removing key (when turned off).
My 2011 chevy Equinox has had a lot of problems, I got the car with 49,000 miles about 3 years ago. I had to replace the timing chain already due to excessive oil consumption. Now my catalytic converter is bad due to oil consumption. My car now has around 130,000 miles and I seen there is a class action suit for the 2011 chevy Equinox for excessive oil consumption. It also poses a safety risk as it can cause engine failure while the cars are in motion. There are times I add a whole quart of oil and 3 days later I hear a ticking noise and my oil is completely gone. My car conks out at stop signs once in a while, it takes time to accelerate. Also my passenger side seat belt does not work it's stuck to the point where you can't use it.
Timing belt failed within two years of the first time being fixed. First time was when vehicle was purchased used at approx 123k, second time it has failed is approx 179k. There is an ongoing oil consumption issue with the vehicle. I have heard that there is a recall on the oil issue that was not publically announced and I would like to find out why it wasnt if in fact this is an issue. Timing belt should not fail twice . Took vehicle in to shop after vehicle began shaking violently and jumping while stopped at a light, in drive with the breaks on. When I went to drive, vechicle would drive but had severe loss in poer and was vibrating the whole time. Upon taking to the shop and having an engine diagnostic test done, it was confirmed that the timing chain was indeed stretched out and would need to be repaired at a cost of $2500. This repair had been made two years prior as well , having had to replace the chains and such due to this recurring and ongoign oil issue.
Less than 60,000 miles and it needs a new engine. Engine light came on and power was reduced. Car idles very rough, and somewhat loud. I liken it to a school bus. Luckily I was less than 5 miles from home and did arrive safely. Car was looked at by two different mechanic shops and both have the same diagnosis: timing belt/chain jumped and now needs a new engine.
Comments: I am a chevy owner of a 2011 Equinox and not happy about having to pay for something that should be a recall. The timing chain is held on by a small bolt which came loose and belt broke and busted a head and all my rocker arms. This screw up my repair man said is because it was designed wrong and says once it is done there is no clue when it could happen again in the future. I have read about this happening to various drivers and they as well as me being told your VIN number is not in the recall. I want to know why it is not and what is going to be done about this. The repair bill is between $2500 and $3000 and I also read that it is usually out of warranty when it happens. I am so mad at gm at the moment and thinking about going with another company after I sell this one. 713-434-3499 nights 630-337-6837 days 4139 rosalind lane houston, TX 77053 VIN #2cnalfec1b6456225 111,000 miles towing $200 labor and repair $3800 the timing chain guide bolt is so small I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. As much as I have read on recalls of this happening I would like to be reimbursed by gm I was driving to work and it died about two blocks from my job. I started it back up and started down the road and it would only let me go 45 mph and traction control icon came on and then where speed is it had a ! engine power is reduced. I limped into work and parked it going 20 mph. I do have pictures of the bolt and my dash.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle was making an abnormal loud winding and knocking noise as the vehicle stalled. The check engine light was illuminated. Additionally the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil, the contact stated that the oil dispenser was empty and oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the timing chain/belt needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 107,000. The VIN was not provided. Ap.
My 2011 Chevrolet Equinox has a really bad ticking coming from the timing belt area. This car has been idling rough and its very loud do to the ticking coming from side of engine. It sound like a 30 year old car and its been doing it since 66,000 miles.
While driving the 2011 Equinox will jerk or jump as if being hit from behind while attempting to accelerate between 2nd and 3rd gear. The check engine light will not turn off. The stability track light comes on and off periodically while in motion. When the car is being turned off it shakes as if the motor is going to fall out. I have to turn off the ac before turning the ignition switch to off position to decrease some of the shaking, yet it does not prevent it. Furthermore while driving at approx. . 30-35mphs, the car jumps to 5th gear without allowing to accelerate any faster in the mist of traffic. The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox shakes and makes a wining noise while idling. It does so to the point where the hood is shaking. The car only has 54000 miles on it. Also I have to constantly adjust the seatbelt while driving because it cuts into my neck which is very uncomfortable and a huge distraction. This car will now go forward in drive but it will not reverse.
I was driving on a residential street going 30 mph. All of a sudden there was a engine clunk ( 4 cyl) and then rapid deceleration with the engine running very rough. Of course the warning lights came on. The next day I drove to the dealorship several miles away and was lucky to get there as the vehicle was running so badly. The dealership will make the throttle body repair, change some sensors and fool with the timing belt, but the bottom line is the safety issue. Reviewing the prior complaints, it was scary hearing about those having problems on the interstates. Yes, something needs to be done by general motors. Recalled these vehicles for inspepection. Someone is going to get killed. The lady at the dealership had the gaul to say, "didn't you have the throttle body cleaned when you got your oil changed". I said lady, I have no idea what a throttle body is and if it is so important, then the dealer should do it automatically. Good luck, it will cost me $400. 00, they said today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
I was stopped at stoplight at 8pm the car shook as I started to turn left and the stability control light came on then low power engine light came on in my 2011 Equinox. The car powered down to 2 mph, it would not accelerate so I turned into a parking lot, shut the car off and turned it back on same thing happened again. I called onstar and had the car towed to phillips Chevrolet (great service) in frankfort, IL. The service manager called and told me that the throttle body had to be replaced. I had the extended warranty so the cost was $100. 00 to me, without the warranty it would have been $600. 00 to fix. I asked if he has replaced many throttle bodies in this model car he said quite a few. The car was fixed. I emailed Chevrolet and asked how many throttle bodies have been replaced in all cars, they said no recalls on this car. I was unsatisfied with their answer, that was not my question. Chevrolet called me back and said that a person would call me about my concern. They called and told me the same story, no recalls and the dealer could have been lying to me, which made me upset. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he told there were no records kept of how many throttle bodies have been replaced, which I do not believe. He also told me about a fuel pump problem that chevy would fix only if my car had a problem and a chain belt problem that could a cause serious problem to the engine if the car showed symptoms. I was not happy with that answer either. I will take my car in for a chain belt and fuel pump check now that I am aware of the potential problem. The supervisor told me that I would have to contact your agency about my concern. I would like an answer to my original question, how many throttle bodies have been replaced in Chevrolet cars? why did this happen and will a recall be issued? thank you.
