Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

Was in a small accident the air bags never deployed but the seat belts locked saying that I needed to service my air bag system. As I did. The seat belts are no longer locked but the light is still on and the car is telling me to servic we the airbag system.

At 12pm on June 11, 2023 I was parked in a church sparking lot in east rochester and was facing the church's stone wall. My vehicle was only 2 feet from the was when the car accelerated toward the wall and all of the airbags opened and the hood and side panels were affected causing the vehicle was considered totaled by my insurance. My foot was on the brake and I was preparing to put the car in park when the car lurched forward and hit the wall at a high rate of speed. Gm examined the car and gave me a report I could not understand but their report indicated that there was not a vehicle defect. I find this highly improbable. I can send the report and perhaps your organization can read it or do your own inspection of my vehicle. Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. Drivers seat back rest air bag randomly deployed when I was in park, in my driveway taking my seat belt. Bruised my arm/ side of body pretty good. I had no idea how that could happen however, I connected my scanner tool to the car and come to find out I had 7 air bag/srs codes. After that happened all of my seat belts locked up, and per the scanner, it says a few other air bags have deployed but they haven't. This happened a while ago, (wife's car) and I haven't had time to reach out about it. I still drive it just to work and back but I disconnected the srs module in fear of the air bags the scanner tool said deployed will deploy while I'm driving. No previous codes or air bag light were shown before that occurred along with no previous repairs or modifications at the time were done besides regular maintenence. Hasn't been inspected but the light is still on, they're hard codes that can't be cleared, and the deployed air bag/seat back cover is still present.

Warning light is coming on that there is a airbag malfunction and thr airbag needs to be replaced.

The air bag safety restraint system is faulty on this vehicle. This is a system that should work for a life time for the vehicle but it's already defective. This vehicle once the battery is low or needs jump start, the entire steering controls become loose which may cause serious accidents for unseasonably experienced drivers.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that as his daughter was slowing down to exit a highway, she was rear ended at a high rate of speed by another vehicle. The impact from the other vehicle caused his daughter to then hit the vehicle in front of her. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact's daughter was taken to the hospital by ambulance; however, due to a long wait, she left untreated. She was later treated by her primary care doctor who performed x-rays for soreness to her left shoulder, the middle of her chest and right hip; she was given medication to treat the soreness to those areas. A police report was filed. The whereabouts of the other drivers were unknown. The contact arrived at the scene and was able to drive the vehicle home; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 40 mph. The contact called an independent body shop and an appointment was made to inspect the vehicle. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

My passenger airbag doesn't pick up when someone is sitting in it and says service airbag. Chevrolet had recalls on them but not in my state. Now no one has to be in the seat and it will flash service airbag and the light on the dash stays on. I can't afford to fix it myself and think Chevrolet is responsible for the fix.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph down an inclined road the front driver side air bag erroneously deployed causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle and crash down an embankment. During the crash the driver sustained a concussion, left arm, neck and rib injuries which required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away to the insurance company. The local dealer and manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.

When starting my vehicle I get a message on the dash that service is needed for the airbag. I took my vehicle to a chevy dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. I have not had the work done at this time. However I know it is needed and in the process of scheduling an appointment. I have always owned chevys and have never had a problem with the airbags. I know this is a safety issue and should be a concern for the company. I truly think this should be on the recall list. Thank you, judy mccourt.

The front passenger airbag light beeps even when there is no passenger. The airbag light is now off and shows there is no operable airbag. My vehicle was checked a month ago with no issues but this appears to be ongoing.

The brake system failed and my car is now in a salvage lot. I believe the car will remain there only until I submit the car title. While driving in heavy traffic I was unable to make a sudden stop to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had enough time to stop, but the brakes failed to engage properly. The brakes were very stiff and vibrated or pulsated as I applied the brakes and my car wouldn't stop prior to colliding with the car in front of me. My safety and the occupants in the other car were at risk. The life of a pedestrian, if involved, could have resulted in death. Luckily, there were no serious injuries and exterior damage appeared minimal but my car suffered serious internal damage. I was not able to confirm the problem with the dealership. My phone calls were not returned. I also contacted Chevrolet and now waiting for a follow-up call. The car was only inspected by the insurance appraiser, who deemed my car a total loss because the car frame was cracked on both sides, air condenser damage, exterior damage plus more. The insurance CO. Had my car towed to a holding parking lot for salvage. My greatest concern is if this had been a situation where I was unable to stop suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian and killed someone! the appraiser suspected the air bag sensor might have failed since the impact was hard enough to crack the car frame. Seven days prior to the accident I had rear brakes and roters replaced at a Chevrolet dealership. They also looked into a warning message on my dash - service brake assist system. I was told nothing was wrong with that.

I was in a vehicle accident the 4th of August. After the accident I noticed the airbag light on. I check the passenger seat belt and it wouldn't budge, but the air bags never deployed from the accident. About a month ago I had an issue with the car. I was driving down the road and I took a sharp left turn and the car acted like it was starving for gas. It was on a full tank and I was stranded for a few hrs until the car cooled down to where it was operational.

A service airbag indicator light appeared on my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle has under 100k miles and was never involved in an accident. I brought the vehicle into a Chevrolet service center and they advised that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. The Chevrolet service center advised that the repair would cost $1382 for a new passenger airbag module. I contacted gm and their advisor followed up with me. Per our conversation the reason that the airbag needs to be replaced will not be further investigated. They will not cover the cost of replacement. A case number was assigned but advisor declined to provide written documentation of our conversation but agreed to follow-up with written estimate from service center. At this time the passenger airbag module is available for inspection and is with the owner.

I was involved in a car accident where all of the side airbags deployed. On the drivers side just behind the arm rest the airbag that deployed caught on fire and burned all th way through my shirt, jeans and underwear leaving two large burns on my left side. Some areas are 3rd degree.

The airbag light stays on. It’s a known problem with this vehicle. Hundreds of owners online with complaints. I believe it has to do with faulty wiring under drivers seat. I’m scared the bag will intermittently inflate. GMC has to know about it. It’s happening on all the Equinox vehicles. Thank you.

The contact stated while his wife was driving at 15 mph in a traffic circle, another vehicle crashed on both the front passenger's side door and the rear passenger's side door of the vehicle. The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the gear shifter failed to shift out of park and the key would not move, preventing the contact from turning off the vehicle. The contact also mentioned that the service air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact initially called the dealer where they informed him to tow the vehicle to the dealer location. The contact then called aaa where they were able to reset the gear box; the contact was then able to shift the vehicle into the drive and drove to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure with a defective gear box; the vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer while they awaited for the parts to repair the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 16v502000 (electrical system, power train) however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

In February 26, 2022, my wife was driving and I was in passenger seat. At approximately 2123 hours, we came over a slight hill and hit a cow at 70 miles an hour on state highway 95 between academy, texas and temple, texas. Our airbags did not deploy and my seatbelt malfunctioned as I hit my head on dash.

Passenger seat airbag is malfunctioning. It won't also sense that a passenger is seating in the seat. I am referring to a full grown adult and not a young child, so weight is not an issue and it should sense someone occupying the seat. The airbag will turn off and on while driving with the passenger seat occupied. When this happens, the service airbag system message comes across the dash as well as the red airbag light. This is a very serious safety issue that needs to be looked into. A passenger could get seriously injured or possibly die in the event of an accident, as the airbag won't deploy. First noticed the issue a few months ago and it seems to be happening more frequently.

I was put in a rental by enterprise from a rear-end. I was involved while my car was in the shop fixing the trunk. This rental had broken window glass under the passenger seat, and the car started sounding weird when turning and driving. On a morning, that same week dropping off my ex now at her job that same week, on my way back the SUV started making the sounds more profound or louder (metal grinding on metal) and immediately after the whole front of the SUV hit the floor making me lose control on the highway 408 and hit the wall while spinning out of control until it stopped in the middle of the highway. I was escorted to a near gas station by one of the cops that came out of the traffic that was on hold. They moved the car to the side and escorted us. From there, my ex's mom checked carfax for the VIN number, which came out to having 4 previous accidents of the same front area. I reported it to the enterprise agent that called me asking about the car being towed, and I explicitly told them I'm not ok and you guys failed to put me in a safe vehicle. From there they charged my insurance for all the damages and never assumed responsibility!.

The contact stated that she has never been involved in a crash , however the lights stays on while the vehicle is on. The contact also stated that her vehicle is also consuming plenty of oil , however there was no leaking , nor burning of oil when she inspected her vehicle. Keys constantly stuck in the ignition. The air bag always turns on and off. Now, there's gas leaking somewhere and you can smell it well after the cars off. I think it may be the fuel pump, which is very pricey. All these were recalled in the past but none of them included my car. ?? ??.
