Passenger air bags did not work, doesn't even acknowledge a passenger. Light is always on to service airbags. Also my stabil control lights come on then go off. A couple months or even longer, they come on again. I have had them checked out. The passenger air bags sensor was replace at a cost of $900. 00 andstabil control lights repair was $350 and continue to have problems . Also both my headlights are full of moisture and I continue to have to replace the bulbs, after replacesing one bulb that night was pulled over by the police , bulb burned out again. I talked to the dealer no recalls on any of the problems and I know a lot of people with GMC products having the same problems.

Problems with my veh. Covers a long period and has worsen over time, first the (tpms) tire pressure monitoring system went bad, then the temperature gauge went out of serv. , then the air bag sensor on front pass. Side worked when it wanted. Now the front pass door does not lock or unlock unless manually, now the driver window does not operate up or down, and till now only once the car keys were stuck in the ignition. Have checked with gm recall list that seem to have some of the problems I have but my 2008 Equinox is not on it. This electrical malfunction can only get worse. What's next to go.
Passenger airbag sensor failure. Vehicle only has 55,000k. Will not register passengers over 110lbs. Had to replace entire sensor ($903. 24). Chevrolet would not replace citing "outside of warranty. " this is a critical safety feature that should never fail.
My 2008 chevy Equinox has had the airbag error light on the console intermittently on for several months. Now it is just on. Currently has 47k miles on it so out of warranty. The said the sensor unit under the passenger seat needs to be replaced which mean replacing that whole seat cushion over $800, the part is over $500. With this airbag error light on the airbags will not activate on impact so this is a safety risk. Why would this not be part of a recall since I read the 2007's have the same problem. There has been no damage to that seat, this is faulty equipment.
I purchased this unit in 2010. This is related to the front passenger seat. The signal of the airbag appears off even if there is a passenger seated. This started to happen in 2013. I took it for a diagnostic at a dealer and they said it was a faulty sensor. Very expensive repair. There is a recall for this situation but when I gave my VIN # it appears my vehicle is not included (NHTSA campaign #07v344000).

The passenger seat airbag does not work when the person in the passenger seat is under 110 lbs. My grand son is only 10 years old and I'm affraid to let him sit in the passenger seat cause the airbag doesn't work when him or any light weight person sits in the seat. I have brought it to the Chevrolet dealer and they can't or won't spend the money to replace the seat sensor in the seat which they say is the problem.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the front passenger seat was built with a sensor system for the air bags however, there was an error in the calibration of the sensor, which caused the sensor to fail. As a result, the air bags would not shut off when a small child or small statured person was occupying the passenger¿s seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who refused to diagnose the vehicle because the vehicle was not purchased at that particular dealer. The contact was informed of a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign number: 07v344000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.
Airbag sensor - service airbag is illuminated for no reason. Multiple owners have the same issues, yet warranty doesn't cover.
The service air bag light came on. It appears the sensor under the front passenger seat is defective and there is a recall from may 30, 2012 affecting only 437 vehicles from model year 2007!: NHTSA campaign id number: 07v344000. This is a common problem for more recent gm vehicles.

My 2008 chevy Equinox has had the airbag error light on the console intermittently on for several months. Now it is just on. Paid $124 to have it look at at the dealership I purchased it from, currently has 55k miles on it so out of warranty. The said the sensor unit under the passenger seat needs to be replaced which mean replacing that whole seat cushion over $800, the part is over $500. With this airbag error light on the airbags will not activate on impact so this is a safety risk. Why would this not be part of a recall since I read the 2007s have the same problem. There has been no damage to that seat, this is faulty equipment.
While driving the airbag sensor for the passenger seat shut off then turned back on repeatedly. Then sensor is not correctly identifying when there is as passenger in the front passenger seat, and the airbag is then automatically shut off. When it was taken to the dealership we were told that there are two sensors that are not working correctly for the passenger presence system. Unfortunately the VIN number is not in the 2007 recall listed affected VIN numbers, even though it is having the same sensor problem.
I had told the chevy dealer the air bag sensor light states "warning please service" they told me it was an old code. A few months later I readended another driver and my airbags did not open up. They did crack because I felt the burn on my arms. Yet, I'm being told it was an old code and there is nothing wrong with them. Now the light stays on all the time and no one will listen to me. I'm afraid there could be a malfunction and it could hurt me or my family, but nonoe will lsten to me.
Does not recognize passenger, and airbag is "off". This has happened beginning first day vehicle was purchased, and intermittently since. Problem appears to be getting worse, as it usually does not recognize adult passenger of less than about 150 lbs. Most recent trip a few days ago with three adults of medium size had problems with none of occupants being recognized by sensor, even when properly seated and buckled. Literature states passengers of over about 100 lbs should be recognized. We have also found that it sometimes spontaneously shuts airbag "off" when traveling down the road, leading to concern that this essential safety feature may not work when needed in a crash. We have found it necessary to pull off the road, shut off engine and wait several minutes before restarting engine to activate passenger airbag. Sometimes multiple attempts are needed, and passenger has had to move to rear seat when activation failed. It always recognizes a larger adult passenger, but typical passenger is of medium size. This is a completely unacceptable situation from a safety standpoint. Gm position is that it is not covered under standard warranty, and our research shows repair cost to be substantial. Research has turned up other customers having same issue with same vehicle. If a recall were to be called for, customers would not have to bear this high cost.
I have not had an accident, so the above date, mileage and speed are estimates. While traveling down the highway, the service airbag light came on. The passenger airbag light also went off. It later came back on. My wife was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. Any time we go somewhere, this happens numerous times. I feel this is a defect in the sensor under the seat cushion in the passenger seat. I have noticed that the NHTSA has a recall on 437 units for this problem and your campaign # is 07v34400. According to the man named rob I spoke with at gm, my vehicle was not included in that recall. I feel this is a very serious problem and don't feel like my wife or either one of my children would be protected in the event of an accident where the airbag needs to deploy. It may not due to this defective sensor. I would like to know if you can offer any assistance in getting this taken care of without me having to pay for it. I am on disability income and trying to support a family of four leaves no money for such things. I feel like gm should have to cover this, since it's a defect on their part, and not mine. Is there any way you could add my vehicle to the recall now that I've made you aware of it and given you the VIN #? we're planning a 1,500 mile round trip on the 23rd of June to travel to our church convention and would like to have this problem rectified before making the trip, if at all possible. Thanks for your time and attention.
My 2008 chevy Equinox has been messing up with the airbag sensor! I took it to get it checked and was charge $50 dollars and then they told me it was the module that had gone bad and it would cost me like $600 to fix that's just ridiculous. They should have a recall on this since ive read a lot of people having the same issue with the 08 Equinox.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the front passenger air bag sensor failed while driving 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there were no recalls for the failure and the air bag sensor could be replaced at the contacts expense of $600. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.
My vehicle is a 2008 chevy Equinox. The passenger air bag sensor will not activate the device when my 150 to 165 lb wife is sitting in the vehicle. I have taken it to the dealer twice, they advise the system is functioning normally, as it was designed, and that my wife does not weigh enough to activate the "on" function of the air bag. This seems unsafe, and unreasonable to me. Id like to file a complaint, and ask, does this violate NHTSA safety standards? does the NHTSA research support that a 110 lb adult should not have airbag protection? ive noticed similar complaints on your website for this issue. It will going in for the second time. . . Lets see how it works now. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the passenger air bag off warning light would illuminate whether the passenger seat was occupied or not. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 34,000.
My vehicle is a 2008 chevy Equinox. The passenger air bag sensor will not activate the device when my 107 to 110 lb wife is sitting in the vehicle. This seems unsafe, and unreasonable to me. The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. Her vehicle was repaired according to recall# 07v344000 (air bags, frontal sensor/control module). After the repair she experienced all of the symptoms outlined in the description of the recall after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 48200.
1997 Equinox passenger seat sensor intermittent. Rose Chevrolet claims they replaced the sensor under warranty that they had to wait 3 days for. As my wife was driving down interstate realized that her sister had no airbag. The display said it was off again. My wife could not reset the problem at that time w/o turning the car off/on and hoping it would see that her sister was indeed sitting there. Will be taking this back to rose Chevrolet in hamilton OH again.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that when a passenger is seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag indicator illuminates repeatedly. She stated that there has to be a weight limit in order for the indicator to dim. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v344000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 22,039 and current mileage was 22,070. Updated 3/12/09 the traction control activated on dry pavement. It made steering the vehicle next to impossible. The headlights had to be replaced. The all wheel light illuminated. Updated 03/16/09.
First problem happened recall on spark plug boot 1 cylinder wasn't firing, was fixed under warranty as was the gasket for the hatchback was bad. That lead to a gallon or so of water into my spare tire compartment. This has since happened again and I need another gasket. The driver side window stopped working, being a electrician I found to broken wires inside rubber boot on door hinge side. Abs light constantly comes on/off computer says abs needs service ( sensor problem). Gas gauge is reading incorrectly, I have to use the range setting on the computer. Speedometer readings incorrect sits at 60mph when the car is off. I bought this vehicle brand new and have nothing but problems, most of any vehicle I've owned. Current mileage 63,000 miles.
Four car pileup on hwy 41 nb. Â we were veh. #3 and hit forward and were hit from behind. Â our seat belts did not restrain us and the air bags did not deploy. My husband , ernst, flew into the dashboard and I slammed into the steering wheel.

Too many times to count the passenger air bag sensors have not detected various passengers in this 07 Equinox. Brought it to dealership 2 times including once when sensors were replaced, have complained via phone numerous times & told they couldn't fix it. Called gm hotline 02/13/08 & opened a new complaint case based on this & 2 other "unfixable" problems. They requested 1 more chance & truck was brought in 02/25/08. 02/26/08 gm rep called & told me the dealership looked at it & involved gm engineers & that there was no fix & he needed to call the field mgr to authorize a resolution since truck could not be returned due to safety liabilities. 02/29/08 still no return call to gm from field manager. Gm states to stay in rental vehicle since truck is a safety liability & should not be driven. 03/05/08 gm rep states that, although he does not agree, the field mgr stated that when a passenger is present they need to watch for the "air bag off" light to be illuminated & the passenger needs to wiggle around and move until it goes out. She mandated that we return the rental car immediately as gm would not pay for it & we needed to retrieve our truck since it was working as designed. Unbelieving that this would actually be gm's stance especially when they have a voluntary recall out on this exact issue in this vehicle (gm recall 07174) I asked him to confirm that he was telling me to pick up the truck they had been telling me was unsafe for passengers knowing that there would be a need for passengers in the vehicle, he said that wasn't his decision & there was nothing more he could do. I have numerous pictures of the "air bag off" light illuminated with someone clearly in the passenger seat, dated notes documenting all contact with gm on this issue & full records of the previous repair attempts since last year. It's my belief that not only is gm recall 07174 more widespread than they are admitting but I also don't believe they can definitively fix it.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The airbag off light would illuminate with an average sized adult seated in the front passenger seat. The dealer stated that the sensors were working correctly. There is a recall for the air bags: frontal: sensor/control module (NHTSA campaign id # 07v344000) however, the dealer stated that his VIN was not included. The contact felt that his vehicle should be included as part of the recall. The failure mileage was 6,000 and current mileage was 7,100. Updated02-14-08 updated 02/14/08.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The air bag off indicator light fails to illuminate when a passenger is seated. The dealer stated that the vehicle does not operate due to bone structure. The current mileage is 6,500 and failure mileage was 6,300. The consumer stated after 2 attempts to have the vehicle repaired she is concerned this is a major malfunction and life threatening defect and wants to reimbursed for the vehicle purchase to repurchase a different vehicle. The dealer stated traction control light comes on and the cupholder in console is broken. Updated 09/05/07.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. When an occupant was in the passenger front seat, the air bag turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection, and the air bag sensor was replaced. The repair did not remedy the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on several separate occasions for the identical failures, in which there were no resolutions. The technician stated that air bag system was designed improperly. The failure mileage was 100. The current mileage was 30,000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.
Air bag warning light stayed on while driving. Dealership replaced the air bag module. When installed a body control module (bcm) was also needed. When the bcm was installed dealership was not able to program it to be compatible with the air bag module in order for the air bag to deploy in an accident or impact. Dealership or manufacturer was unable to correct the problem.
