2 Front Air Bag problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/03/2011

I fell asleep at the wheel and was heading straight for a telephone pole. I awoke at last second and managed to swerve to avoid hitting pole head on, in which case I would probably be dead. Doctors said I was lucky to be alive even though I wore my seatbelt b/c the car hit the pole and then flipped over 2 or 3 times before landing on its hood with me trapped inside. The jaws of life were used to help pull my passenger door off enough to get me out of car onto a flatboard, once they had me in a neckbrace, that is. The reason I am making a complaint is because I leased this car at a very high percentage rate and was more than 75% done paying it off and now I have nothing. The '02 Chevrolet Impala had front airbags, (at least that's what they said when they sold me the car), however, neither deployed in the accident and I sustained a serious injury to my whole left side. My head and shoulder went right through the drivers side window, hitting the pavement, and I have nerve damage now b/c of this. My left arm is now tingling and going numb, which comes down from a pinched nerve in my neck. I will need to go to physical therapy once I am able. I am on high dose pain meds. Right now and can barely walk. I now wonder if the airbags had been deployed already sometime b/f I bought the car, put back in used, and that is why neither came out when they should have. I am thinking about contacting a lawyer regarding this situation. Do your have any suggestions on this? thank you and please get back to me as soon as possible. As time is of the essence in this situation.

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

While driving we hit another car on its side I wont get in to big details but the other cars air bags went off and not ours, why didn't they go off and what is the point of buying a car that would "save or lives" if the main thing we paid for did not work? the accident was at about 10-20 mph. The car hydroplaned in to the other we had a full car the driver and passengers weigh more than 160lbs each. I have some physical pain, including beck and back sprain.

6 Front Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/18/2009

On Saturday July 18, 2009 I was driving my 2005 Chevrolet Impala on highway 10 in tawassen british columbia heading east bound. I accelerated from a stop light and was traveling at approximately 40 mph when my driver and passenger airbags deployed. I had not struck anything with the vehicle, nor had the vehicle been in any prior frontal collisions. No mechanical repairs have ever been done to the vehicle, and no parts have been modified aside from basic maintenance (brakes, rotors, oil changes, etc. ). Luckily, me and my passengers (2) sustained no major injuries (only light minor) and I was able to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the highway. I am filing this in America because I am an american citizen and the vehicle is registered to me in the united states. I have filed a claim with my insurance company and with the manufacturer (gm, Chevrolet). Gm/Chevrolet are having problems with jurisdiction between gm canada and gm USA, and have yet to investigate the issue. I am writing this to help me investigate the issue and potentially save lives. Thank you.

7 Front Air Bag problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/28/2009

I am a deputy sheriff and was driving a 2006 chevy Impala when I lost control of the vehicle ending up in a ditch. During the collision my airbag deployed fracturing my sternum from top to bottom along with breaking a rib. Since the collision I received my mri result finding I also have two compacted disks in my neck and a compacted disk in my lower back. I am an average size man 5'9" tall 190 pounds very physically active and was wearing my seat belt and a bullet proof vest. The "black box" in the vehicle showed the impact was at 11 mph. According to my doctor the break to my sternum would take a massive force which was also verified by my pulmonary specialist. . I have investigated hundreds of motor vehicle accidents as a peace officer and this is the first time I heard of an airbag breaking someone's sternum or rib(s). I strongly feel if a elderly person, teenager, woman or short individual would more seriously be injured if they receive the impact I did.

While making a turn in a private parking lot I hit a concrete parking curb at 5 mph or less causing both front air bags to deploy. Only damage appears to be from air bag deployment. Since I hit the curb at such a slow speed I don't think the air bags should have deployed. Car towed to dealer to have air bags replaced and damaged windshield repaired. 18 Front Air Bag problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/03/2005

(1) I was driving on 2 lane undivided state highway on a clear day with the cruise control and fell asleep while driving. My wife and I were the only occupants. I woke on the side of the highway going about 65 mph. I started braking (abs brakes) I think we slowed to about 50 mph before hitting the blunt end of a guard rail. The car impacted about 6 inches right(drivers side) of center on the front. Seat belts were in use. The car had spun 170 degrees clockwise and come to a complete stop and then I looked at my wife for an instant when her airbag went off closely followed by my air bag. (2) the failure of the airbags resulted in seat belt related strains and soft tissue injuries for my wife. I received a bruise on the chest. (3) so far nothing has been done. The insurance company sold the car to a used auto parts yard. I was able to track it down and I bought the computer module that was under the passenger side seat. I witnessed the removal. I was unsuccessful at contacting Chevrolet.
