I was driving on a residential street, going no more than 25 mph with my two two year olds in their car seats behind me. Suddenly and simultaneously, all four of the side airbags deployed (front and back), knocking my girls seats together, the front right side of the car dropped down and started grinding on the wheel. I was able to pull off to the side of the road thankfully. I turned the car off, and when I got out to look at the front, the car door shut, and for the first time, automatically locked me out, my kids inside, with its own key and my purse as well.

My car was in motion and before I made it to the corner my passenger side airbag burst open my dashboard opened all the way across to driver's side. 12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The service engine light goes on intermittenly. Sometimes stays off for up to a week and then comes back on. Took it to chevy dealership and was told the module for the driver's side air bag needs to be replaced at a cost to me of $730- how can something like this happen when there has been no accident, low mileage or any type of "bumping" to the vehicle. I feel this is a safety issue that gm should resolve. Upon looking into this complaint on the interent, I see there are quite a few that have this same problem. This is something that would effect any driver with this problem if there is a serious accident and the air bags do not go off as intended.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

At 55 mph on a slippery right hand side curve (speed limit is 65 mph) vehicle under-steered and lost traction completely, without touching the brakes, it started to slow down and skidded to the outside of the curve (to the left). I tried to get it back to the driving lane, it started to skid laterally to the right and slowed down until it hit a reflector post on the edge of the right lane and stopped. Vehicle information on the dash board read "ice detected. . . ". Although the damage on the right door was a very minor dent, the car deployed all 4 head curtain airbags and 2 right side airbags, engine was shut down and front seat-belts were stuck. Few minutes later, the engine ran normally with the "ice detected . . " message still on. It seems that the airbags sensors were activated for no required reason for a minor dent on the door. Also, the stability and the faulty braking system might be of a great safety issue on this vehicle.

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/04/2009

We purchased a 2009 chevy Impala in April . My wife has a tail bone medical issue that necessitates that she sit on a special pillow while riding in a vehicle. The seat displaces her weight evenly across the seat. The problem is that the air bag sensor on the passenger compartment doesn't recognize her weight sitting on the seat, so the passenger side air bag doesn't show it is operative. We returned to the dealer who told us to set a magazine underneath her to make the sensor work. It does activate the passenger air bag "on" button sometimes, however, the majority of the time it will not activate and my wife is not protected. I called general motors and they didn't have any solution to this safety issue, except to tell me that my wife should ride in the back seat! the dealership has no further answers for us. We are extremely frustrated that my wife is riding in a brand new vehicle unprotected by her airbag nearly all the time. Can you please investigate? thank you!.

Side air bag/heated seat, closed the drivers side door and the air bag deployed on its own causing a really big bruise on my daughters side. Contacted the g. M. Dealership about it and was told that they would look into it and to not contact anyone else. Never heard anything back from them. Then about a month later the passenger side seat started burning and it ruined the center console ,seat, and carpet. No sense in contacting g. M. Again because they are not going to do anything about it. Someone will have to die before anything gets done to solve these problems that everyone is having and that g. M. Will not solve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
