9 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

As I was driving last week the steering wheel began to shake and I didn't understand what was going on. The following day, while backing up, a bell began ringing and I couldn't turn the steering wheel. I then noticed the power steering light was flashing. I immediately pulled the car up and turned it off. I phoned the Chevrolet company both in town and the one on the website and asked, " was there a recall on the steering wheel" was told no. I took the car in for service to the company and was charged $109. 00, then was told I need to replace the power steering assist motor module with an estimated cost of $807. 14 and if that doesn't solve the problem; I will have to purchase a torque sensor with an estimated cost of $1269. 54. I informed the company I didn't feel that's fair because problem it is a manufacturing problem, not anything I did. I was told it isn't under warranty, however, based on the research I've done, I thought as long as the part was in stock it can be replaced. A representative was trying to help me understand why it's not their responsibility but I just don't understand why it isn't, due to this being a safety issue. I'm confuse when certain Malibu's had this recall, why all of them weren't at least checked. I was also told the car is old, I understand that, but it's mine and it's all I have and I have taken good care of the car and it has taken care of me, not only that I can't afford a new car with a part-time job. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.

15 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

4/23/2014: while traveling at 65 mph, the steering wheel started shaking on its own and a message appeared on the vehicles center display that read "power steering" . The local Chevrolet dealer said that there was a recall (#14116) but that the parts were not available. I took the car off the road because it was unsafe to drive. 11/04/I took the vehicle to burdick Chevrolet for service after receiving a letter from gm stating that parts were available. 11/05/when the repair was completed, the service writer brought the car over to where I was standing. When I started to pull away, the steering wheel started shaking and the steering felt very notchy. I showed this to the service writer and he went to get the service manager and a technician. The service writer returned and said that the service manager said that this was not part of the recall and that I would have to bring the car in for diagnostics and I would have to pay for any service. I don't feel as though I should have to pay for anything regarding this recall. As the drove home, the steering wheel shook constantly and I was not able to drive in a straight line and had to constantly correct by steering left and right. I called the dealership and asked to speak with the service manager but he was apparently too busy. I have dealt with the service manager in the past and I don't expect him to ever return my calls. I have no idea what they actually did to repair the steering. I only know that it's much worse that when I took the car in. I now have a car that cannot be driven, let alone sold. What should I do at this point?.

16 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

This happened literally at the end of a 7 hour car trip- we got lucky. Driving on I-75 south and approaching exit. Begin to slow down and enter exit ramp. Steering wheel starts shaking profusely and immediately becomes extremely hard to move to either side. Panicking, I managed to control the car and slow it down to a very slow speed and put the hazard lights on, and slowly merge into a gas station that was, luckily, right next to the exit ramp. This was extremely scary, unexpected, and could have killed us if we were going the full highway speed and were not exiting on a ramp.

24 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2009

I have a 2006 Malibu which we purchased last may with 50k miles. The car originally started making a clunking noise when turning about 6 months after we bought it. That I can live with but now we have power steering problems. The power steering comes & goes & the steering wheel starts vibrating & turning all on its own. We took the car to the shop & discovered that the steering column needs replaced. After researching the last few months on the net I've seen that this problem is huge in all Malibu's 2004 - 2008 models. I find a gm parts bulletin in which you can get these parts replaced at gm's cost for a 2005 with the same problem but nothing for a 2006. I feel like this should be a recall because it can be life threatening. The car gives you no warning of a problem, the steering wheel just starts going crazy. Special bulletin in reference to the 2005 model is #07126. How can gm justify only replacing 2005 models when all seem to have the same defect. Please let me know if there is a parts bulletin & if I'm just over looking it. Thanks rhonda barnes.
