Car loses it's electric power steering randomly, which is a safety concern. Apparently, there are 2 separate recalls on the steering components for 2006 Malibus. Gm says that 1 of the recalls related to my car and the repair was made. Since this is a "closed" case and the repair was made I have been getting the run around from both the dealership that made the repair and gm headquarters. Please note that the issue is the exact same issue that the recall was for. Clearly, the recall was just a band-aid, not a fix as I have read several other people having the same issue! radio illuminates that the power steering has failed (which is what the recall is for). This is definitely a safety issue and needs to be 1. Investigated 2. Fixed by gm and not the owner of the vehicle. The dealership wants me to pay $130 to diagnose the problem and then charge me to replace the same part the recall was supposed to fix! this is crazy and do we really need to diagnose the problem when it clearly says (and I can feel) that the power steering is failing? please investigate this as it is definitely a safety issue.

When driving, go to turn wheel and it hesitates and sticks for a second. Does it very often whether turning left or right. Start the car sometimes and warning bell sounds, power steering appears on radio screen and power steering has failed. Turn car off for awhile, turn it back on and power steering is working again, sometimes. And last, start car, start driving and the gas gauge goes from full down to empty. Warning bell sounds and low fuel appears on radio screen. All these things happen randomly while driving on a street. Have seen recalls for these things on other 06 Malibus but never for mine. My garage wants hundreds of dollars to fix these problems. Something I can not afford.

Power steering randomly fails to engage when car is started. When the car was purchased two years ago, there was a gm recall on the steering shaft torque sensor. That recalled part was replaced in 2016; however, the power steering continues to fail. To date, the power steering has only failed when the car is started. The problem is intermittent. Our local chevy dealer attempted to diagnose the issue. Chevy dealer is unsure of problem but suggests replacing the electronic power steering module and motor assembly. Power steering failure is an ongoing problem that is incredibly dangerous for this make and model of vehicle. Clearly, chevy's original recall and replacement part did not work to fix the problem. They should be held accountable to ensure that every 2006 chevy Malibu is correctly fixed - immediately.

I have waited 3 years for a recall for my steering problem which started 08-2012 with 75,000 miles. On 03/13/15 I took my car in for recall #14116 with 95,000 miles. The fix failed completely. On 07/07/15 with 98,800 miles I returned to the chev dealer for a diagnostic. Which cost me $108. 00. Received a call from dealer, after road test and diagnostic, could not find a problem. Next day I took the mechanic for a test drive and he saw the problem. Alert chimes, power steering displayed on the dic and loss of power steering. After talking with Chevrolet tech support there best guess was a failing power steering control module. And wanted $650. 00 plus the $108. 00 I paid for the diagnostic with no guarantee that it would fix the problem, may need other repairs. I declined. I did more reach and found technical service bulletin # 10183a, special coverage program. 10 year or 150,000 mile warranty on the steering column assembly. Returned to dealer on 07/13/15, 98,800 miles and had steering column assembly replaced under the warranty. No change, the problem still exist. More reach found all vehicles that have recall #14116 done failed to work. 99% were told by the chev. Dealership like me that the power steering control module failing. I'am requesting that NHTSA add the part to the recall list or make Chevrolet do something to fix the problem in less than another 10 years. Have contacted Chevrolet customer assistance center no reply after 3 business days.

General motors has a recall for defective power steering that causes the power steering to fail for several seconds. We took our vehicle to jet Chevrolet in federal way, wa to repair the vehicle according to the recall. They claim they did the work. However, within a couple of days, we continued to have the exact same failure with the power steering. We called jet Chevrolet again to report it and brought the vehicle in again and they said it was something else causing the problem other than the recall. They want to charge us $100 to find out what the problem is. However, the car is doing exactly the same thing as before we brought it in for the recall. If they did replace the part, I'm sure it must have been a defective part. We need something done to remedy this situation to avoid a potential car accident.

Electric power steering fails,.
There was no accident. This is a complaint about my 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. I received three recall notices, nos. 14152, 13036 and14116 from the Chevrolet CO. All three describe very dangerous conditions that may occur while driving my car. They are notifying me that they do not have parts to repair my car but will notify me when they are sent to my dealer. This is outrageous. While driving my car on a limited access highway I may experience a transmission shift cable fracture, a power steering assist failure or an increased resistance in the body control module connection system. Does this mean I should not drive my car until the company can make the repairs? all sound like serious failures. Are you aware the Chevrolet company is sending these out to cover themselves if a failure occurs? carole e. Wheeler.
