My daughter's 2006 chevy Malibue has a steering problem. She heard the indicator bell from the dash and then her steering indicator light came on the dash. This tells us there is a problem in her steering system. She has experienced a slight loss of power steering and found it the be a little harder to steer. . Your web site has indicated that there is a recall for the 2006 and 2007 chevy Malibue manufacturerd certain months. We called our local dealership to fine if my daughter's car was one of the defective cars with a power steering electrical modules. They stated no. I like to know what the difference between a car manufactured in February and one in April. There built on the same assembly line using the same parts. My complaint is that someone else with the same year and model get there car fixed and she does not. She has a low paying job and cannot really afford the repair bill. Gm needs to fix all 2006 chevy Malibu s.
While in motion, the car's abs light will come on and then shortly after that, the power steering light comes on. The steering wheel becomes locked up and very stiff, making it very difficult to turn and drive. Had to pull over several times to reset the battery just to make it from the gas station to an auto parts store. This has been happening over the course of about a week and an half.
There was difficulty with the power steering under all driving conditions. The power steering indicator light appeared within the driver information center. The current mileage at the time of service was 144,961 miles. On page 1 of the attached document, dealer diagnostics identified the steering torque sensor has an internal failure. On page 2, the vehicle was previously repaired under recall at 115,069 miles, and would not be replaced under recall at this time. The previous recall replacement part is obviously defective when, with less than 30,000 miles since recall replacement, the part failed again. The owner should be reimbursed by Chevrolet for substandard recall replacement with inadequate parts. Recall = n140116.

Power steering loss: when starting the car and attempting to drive, the power steering light intermittently displays on the dashboard and power steering is no longer active. If the driver stops the vehicle and turns the engine off, the power steering may be reactivated by restarting. This vehicle had a recall issue serviced at a gm dealer for a torque sensor on 10/8/2014. 3-1/2 years / 30,000 miles later, the vehicle was just diagnosed with the same issue (torque sensor) at around $800. The dealer and gm is refusing to provide any financial assistance with this current repair. It is very frustrating that a safety issue such as this, which appears to be a common issue for this model year, is not backed by the manufacturer. The loss of power steering, requiring extensive effort to turn, can potentially cause personal injury or death to this vehicle's occupants as well as others. If a repair for a safety recall only lasts 30,000 miles before resurfacing, I would call this a temporary band-aid, not a "repair".

Power steering lights on dash beeping sound as soon as you put car in gear.
Driving down the highway, and slowed to a stop light. The car suddenly dings three times. I hear a high popping noise and the power steering warning light appears on the screen. Light turns green. The steering wheel becomes very hard to turn. It takes all of my might to turn the steering wheel left on a red light intersection. I barely avoided hitting the opposite car that was going left across from me. I was told they had a recall. Called the dealership and I was informed my car did not qualify in the recall because it was made earlier than the other models, and the recall had expired in 2014 anyway. Scared me to death almost hitting someone else.
I was picking up a friend & the car drove smoothly to their destination. I stop the car & put the car in park mode, rider got in & I put the car back in drive mode. A few moments later in motion on a city street I took a left turn & the steering wheel ripped itself out of my hands straightening itself out. Power steering light came on the center console, I had no power steering during the left turn & almost got into a car accident because of it. I had to muscle the steering wheel to safety & pull over. As of right now I am still facing this issue, power steering is an electrical issue & the problem is within the steering column. I looked up the issue online only to find out I wasn't alone, many others experienced the same issue as I did. This is a safety issue and needs to be recalled ASAP.
Earlier in the day the steering wheel was moving slightly from side to side on its own while driving at all speeds between 0-55 mph. The power steering quit working while the vehicle was parked and shut off for 5 minutes while I went into a store to get something to eat. When I came back out and started my car there was no power steering. I shut the car off for 15 minutes and started it and the power steering worked but the steering wheel was slightly moving from side to side on its own. One hour later I started the car again and there was no power steering. There has been no power steering for two days. The dealer said it was the power steering electronic assist motor which wasn't included in the gm power steering recall.
Periodically power steering light comes on while driving and power steering quits working. This would occur on medium to highway speeds. Dealer stated sl-n-sensor needed replaced. Replacement kit was 06552-pc.
When puting the car in park the power steering light came on in the computer info section and the steering wheel would not turn but it pulsed or vibrated back and forth side to side. I turned the vehicle off and on a few times and it eventually steering came back and the power steering light went off. The vehicle was stationary when this happened. This mornig 12/05/2016 when I started the car the power steering light came on and steering wheel would not turn without straining hard. After I turned the car off and on the power steering came back but it started the pulsing again. Car was still stationary but I have to drive it today. Pray for me.
Power steering fails when accelerating. Brought car to vandergriff chevy initially to be repaired, and was charged over $600. Found out about recall notice, but dealership denied one was issued and refused refund. Continued to have problems. Turn signal lights blow out and must be replaced regularly (about every 3 months). Brought car to graff chevy for power steering and light signal recall repairs. Continued to have problems. Informed graff chevy and returned for repairs. Still having the same problems in spite of repairs done.

Driving down the road my power steering light came on and now my wheel kicks all over when I try to drive! I took it to a gm dealer and they said that it's the power steering motor and that it has a dead spot they said they have had a lot of this going on in my make and model! this should be a recall! also my car is starting to decide when is should start. Sometimes it takes a few try's and I have to pray it starts and after that in park it will idle high the car isn't that old and doesn't have high mileage it shouldn't be doing this!.
While driving power steering light came on and when my daughter arrived home, I checked for fluids and found out this power steering was electronic. Look on line and found out about the recalls but this vehicle was not on the list. Could not take a chance of my daughter getting into an accident, she uses this car for work and college. Following day drove car to dealer and paid 438. 69 to make the necessary repairs which consisted of replacing the steering module code c0460, replaced the steering position/ torque sensor. Service manager could not understand why this was not covered under the recall because he said it was the same part being replace on the other recall vehicles. Thank you for your concern.

We have three recalls involving the power steering and shift cable. Both appear to leave the car unsafe. When we began to have our power steering light come on and noticed some shaking of the steering column when stopping the car, we were told the part is not available. What are we to do with this unsafe situation with no parts or remedies at this time?.
While driving on the hwy my power steering light came on and caused my steering wheel to lock up. This has happened on several occasions. I thank god I didn't have an accident. I had to try in pull to the side of the hwy and cut my car off to reset the power steering light.

He power steering light came on the display. I could not steet or turn the car. I turn tge car off for about thirty minutes. I started the car back up called gm dealer on 38th street explained the problem & went in. The service department said that it was power steering column & that it would be 1200 dollars to fix. I did not have the money to fix it. On several occasions this has happened to me. As recently as February 25, 2015 I took my car to a private mechanic & paid 817. 00 for suspension work, bushings etc & 253. 00 for two tires. The mechanic informed me that the intermediate mid shaft needs to be replace & that there was still clucking noise & rattling in the steering wheel. I test drove the car with the mechanic & as I was turning out of the parking lot the power steering locked up again. It was very difficult for me to turn the steering wheel as I was turning on a busy intersection. The power steering light came on display. I cut my hazard lights on & cut the car off & started the car up. . . . I do not feel safe in this car. I got on line on February 27, 2015 googled 2006 recalls on Chevrolet Malibu's & seen that there was a recall. I contacted dorman products & left a message in regards to my issue. I also contacted gm 18006302438, spoke with a representativeabout the issue (power steering) & she asked for my VIN number. She also asked me if I was the first owner of the car, I explained that I purchased the car from the andy mohr dearlership & that there was a previous owner. The representative informed me that the recall letter to the previous owner on February 5, 2015. I updated my information & received a letter the next day for the recall. I am schuled to go in for electric power steering assist (recall # 14772) on Tuesday March 3, 2015. I hope that this dangerous issue is taken care of. Concerned Chevrolet Malibu owner.
The vehicle was being driven into our driveway, the power steering light came on and the power steering failed. It came back on the next time I started the car, but the steering column has a very loud, grinding noise. Per my regular mechanic, this is the subject of the recall 12221 for canadian vehicles, but my VIN doesn't come up so no dealer will assist me. I can't safely drive.
2006 chevy Malibu maxx. 3. 5 engine. When exiting a ramp to enter the expressway the steering on our 2006 chevy Malibu locked up pulling the car across two lanes of traffic on the expressway before I could get the vehicle under control . Then I pulled to the shoulder of the road. I was thinking low tire or broken drive belt on the power steering as the power steering light was on. After stopping and raising the hood I saw the belt was ok and the tire also was ok. Next I started to check the power steering fluid to learn there was no power steering dip stick. I stood there looking stupid thinking maybe this car did not have power steering. Well this was a very cold day I got back in the car and started the engine with no power steering light. I turned the steering will and everything was ok so I drove slowly to the next exit. After 500 miles this has not happen again.
When the car is started the steering wheel pulls to the left by itself. On occasion there is a loss of power steering and the light comes on and now it is constantly pulling left. If I were to let go of the wheel now,it would turn left and it feels like I have minimal power assist when I turn right. In a nutshell it now feels like it has half its power steering working only when turning left. There also is a clunking noise under the car when I turn the wheel hard . This thumping has been happening since I bought the car . It feels like something under the car is bumping the steering linkage when fully turned.
