39 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2013

Since 4/24/13 my power steering warning light has come on at least five times. Thankfully at this point I have not lost steering but it does scare me when it happens because I almost always have had my child in the car with me when the warning has come on. With as many complaints I've seen on this matter I feel as a single parent I should not have to pay up to $500 for repairs. A recall should be in place to protect those of us who have this particular issue. If steering should go out in the middle of a turn I could be involved in an accident. I think it is terrible that a recall may never be put in place unless an accident with serious injury occurs.

40 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

Either while I am driving or when I start my car the power steering light flashes on the display and dings three times, and the power steering stops working. This is very frustrating especially while I am driving, fortunately it has not happened while I am driving around corners, but I am very fearful that it will and I will be in the ditch with major issues. When I start the vehicle this sometimes happens and I need to shut the car off several times on occasions to get the power steering to start working. This is and could be a very dangerous situation. I am truly amazed that gm cares about the canadian drivers but not about USA drivers. As they have issued a recall in canada but not in the united states.

42 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2013

My first occurrence was while driving across a railroad track at a speed of 35 mph. . . . While driving I heard a dinging and looked to see my power steering light came on at the same time that I was crossing the tracks. . . . Tracks where uneven so I kinda went around the uneven part and couldn't handle my steering so I almost hit a car coming in the opposite direction. . . Second occurrence has even more life threatening. . . . While drivin on the highway at speeds of 65mph. . . I heard the dinging sound and my steering locked up completely(like when the car is turned off) I could not use steering at all and I had a semi right behind me . . . . I was approaching a curve in the highway so I slow down so the traffic would go around me to hopefully get a chance to turn off the car and restart it to reset power steering. . . . I had read about this problem online and that was the solution. . I took the car to a mechanic where he did a road test and of course nothing happened. . . . I only have 2 more payment on this car and to find out that the situation when fixed always recurs is very disappointing. . . . Please recall this vehicle before this problem kills somebody. . . My family is already aware of this problem and if I get into a accident they will be looking closely into this problem.

The power steering light came on the steering wheel started to jerk. So I put off the road turn the car off look under the hood for a power steering pump fluid holder notice there wasn't one. So I started the car and it drove fine. So lately, it keep happen very often but the Chevrolet company say that it is not a defect in the car. But I have read a lot of complaints about the same problem that I am having with this car. I have carry the car in to get it service to see what was wrong with it and it was the power steering column. The dealer with not paid for it because I have to many miles on my car. But if I have only 150,000 miles they would. Because the mechanic say that it is not a defect in the power steering that they will not fix it. It's cause I have a lot of miles on it and that I didn't buy it new according to the Chevrolet company but if there are a lot complaints about the same thing then I feel there is a defect in the car not how many miles you put on the car. I believe there should be a recall on the power steering.

50 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

Soon after I purchased this car I started having problems with the power steering system. In many occasions when I start the engine the power steering does not work. I cannot move the steering wheel. I turn the engine off, wait a few seconds and start the engine again, and the power steering works. I have had this problems at least 15 or 20 times since I purchased the car in January 9, 2012. It has never happened with the car moving. Also when I move the steering wheel from one side to the other the power steering alert light comes on and off and I hear a clunk noise that I can feel in the steering wheel. It is like if something is loose in the steering system. I checked the rack and pinion in several occasions and found it had the screws that hold it to the frame loose. I tightened them but the noise does not go away. I drive this car with caution and fear because of the power steering problem and the noise in the steering system. This month (April 2014) I started having problems with the fuel level sending unit. Sometimes it marks full and others empty with gas in the tank. At the same time the check engine light comes on and off.

65 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

I have a 2006 chevy Malibu with a serious steering problem. Just like the cobalt that has been recalled. Is the same steering system in the Malibu as the cobalt ? the steering just decides to "stop working on it's own". No matter how slow or fast I might be going, it pulls to the left , it pops when I steer, the power steering light comes on, but resets. So by the time I take it to the shop and pay for another service time, it is done and they say do this do that. I had the steering fixed twice now because it was popping. They said the steering was "out of place". When the steering stops, it is to hard to grasp and steer out of harms way. But gm states. . The steering never goes completely out. . . . They should drive one when this happens. I drive my grand-kids around in this car . . . . . . . If they fixed the cobalt, they need to fix this now before more accidents happen ! don't they feel a ounce of remorse ? or is this like the Toyota deal ? they don't care as long as you are making money and there are"that many deaths" maybe they should let their kids and grand-kids ride in or drive these cars. . . . . . . This car is dangerous and all gm said was" take it to the dealer and maybe we can offer cost assistance ".
