Chevrolet Malibu owners have reported 3 problems related to axle hubs (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Malibu based on all problems reported for the Malibu.
1) normal driving conditions, mostly highway. 2) failure of the hub assembly. Very noisy, reduced noise around corners. 3) this hub has been replaced three times and it needs to be replaced again. I have searched for any recalls on this and could not find any. It has been 25000 miles since it was replaced last and this is totally unacceptable and expensive. Was told that continued driving could cause more damage including abs system. Incident date below corresponds to the lastest time hub failed. Have not had it replaced yet, so part is still available.

Brakes pulse/vibrate, especially after stopping from speeds of 30+ mph. Dealer attempted 6 times to fix while under warranty, including turning rotors, replacing rotors (at 2200 miles), replacing hub assembly. All efforts have failed and problem returns in 3-9 months. Mileage averages 8000 miles per year, and brakes are not suddenly applied. Latest attempt is to replace brakes (at 29k000 miles) and install "shim kit. ".
