The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while his partner was driving at approximately 30 mph she had noticed that when she would depress the brake pedal at night there would be no brake light reflection on either a vehicle behind her or on the road behind her vehicle. The contact confirmed that at night when the brake pedal was depressed the brake lights would not illuminate, and when pressure was taken off of the pedal the brake lights would illuminate. The contact stated no warnings were illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake light switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired, however the brake light failure reoccurred. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and had advised the contact that NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 had been repaired on the vehicle in December of 2014. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

When driving brake light continue to stay on. When pressed they go off and pressing to floor they come on but when released around 6 seconds later they come on again. Was taken to dealer ship to be fixed for a recall . Worked for less than a month and it continues again. Had brake pedal switch replaced and it still continues. Now I'm getting the lights coming on saying esc off and also a traction light. In my opinion all chevy Malibu's should be recalled and done right. Worst car I ever owned. Fix your mistakes please. These things I'm describing happens anywhere I'm driving constantly.
I have filed one complaint about this issue, now after having the brake light switch replaced, I am back again. My 2010 chevy Malibu,1g1zb5eb8af149532, the brake lights illuminate when the brake peddle is not engaged. By pressing hard enough on the brakes (which cannot be done when slowing down, or a simple brake), the brake lights do come on. I have had the recall notice on this issue addressed and now have had the brake light switch replaced, this problem is still there. The brake lights do not operate properly and are on when they should be off and vice versa. I have contacted chevy (gm) by chat, email, and phone and still cannot get help on getting this fixed appropriately.

While I was driving to work I noticed that the brake light in the rear window was only working on an intermitent basis. I had recall work done on my car in October of 2014 under recall 14v252000 or chevy recall 13036 then in mid July of this year my car started doing what they said that it might do in the recall letter. On August 3 I took my car to cargill Chevrolet in putnam, CT. To see why it was doing this I thought that it should be covered under the recall. They then replaced a switch on the brake pedal at a cost of $272. 03 that they said would fix the problem. The next day it was doing the same thing so I took it back and they said that the whole bracket in the rear window needed to be replaced at a cost of $402. 40. This seems to fix the problem. They said neither repair was covered under the recall. I was wondering what your opinion was and if you had any other reports of defective recall work on this recall. Thank you.
After a few days of owning this car I noticed there was an issue with the brake lights turning on while driving. When this happens it also shuts off the cruse control too. When you first press the brakes the lights shut off. Press them again and they work for a few minutes. I searched the internet for help, and noticed gm posted a service bulletin on this issue. Gm advised to clean, and grease contacts for bcm. I did just that. The cleaning was only a temporary fix because the issue returned days later. Around may of 2014 I received notice that gm issued several recalls. The car had been broke down until February of 20015, and in April it was sent to my local Chevrolet dealer to have the recalls fixed. Shortly after fixing the recall issues the brake light issues returned. I contacted gm/ Chevrolet and they contacted my local dealer who agreed to look at the car again for free. After they inspected it I was told the brake switch needed replaced. On may 28, 2015 my local chevy dealer replaced the switch. On may 30, 2015 the brake light issue returned. This is a family car and im afraid that someone will end up hitting us. Can you please help.

Having problems with 2009 chevy Malibu lt. Brake lights stay on constant, and turns off when brake pedal is pressed. What ever the problem has effected the traction control and cruise control. Been to dealer twice. First time they put in a new brake switch and said it was faulty and put some gel on some connectors "250$" week later having same problem. Took back to dealer. Know there replacing wiring and connectors saying its a wiring issue "645$". . .
Someone following me to work informed me my brake lights were on as I was driving on the highway but when I stopped at the street light, they would go off. Now my engine light is on and the warning to service my traction control and esc system is on. The cruise control isn't working properly all the time. I googled the brake light issue and found a recall for my year of car that can cause my other issues. I called gm and was told by [xxx] that my car is included in this and transferred me to the nearest dealer to make an appt for my car repairs. The dealer said there isn't a recall for these issues but I am under a recall for the power steering recall! they do not have the parts but I can keep calling and checking . I then called gm back spoke to [xxx] who advised there isn't a recall for the brake light yet . It is upcoming soon they are in the first stage of this . No time frame when it will happen. I asked what do I do in the meantime with this unsafe car. She said I can get it fixed at my expense. I questioned if I would be reimbursed once they issue the recall. She answered no promise they will. Later that day the dealership service manager called saying gm told him to call me! we could make an appt to check my car, pay out of pocket , keep receipt , and if the recall includes my parts, I will be reimbursed or I can try to hold out for recall. I am beyond frustrated. I'm under an active recall but no part to fix it and this other in beginning stages. This light issue happened to me in October 2013. I bought a new brake switch, had it replaced by a certified mechanic. Now months later I have the same brake light issue but also my cruise control, esc warning and traction control. The best part when I asked [xxx] at gm what if I am in an accident because you are dragging this out. She replied you should call us back after your accident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. When the brake pedal was depressed, the tail lamp failed to illuminate. The traction control warning indicator illuminated. Ourisman Chevrolet of bowie (16610 governors bridge rd, bowie, MD) repaired the vehicle per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000(service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control); however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the brake light switch was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Intermittent problem, occurring at least five times since date above. One or more of the following conditions noted: 1. Cruise control fails to engage, or stops engaging. Indicator light on (on/off wheel toggle switch), but no engage. 2. "service esc" and alternating "traction control" warning with alarm tone on speedo cluster. Orange warning triangle illuminated, also. 3. Brake lights constant on, with no foot on brake pedal. Or, brake lights can go off when brakes are applied. Confusing, possibly dangerous, to drivers immediately following. Once aware of this, fashioned a reflector fitting just behind the rear top mount brake light that reflects into my rear-view mirror. These problems can clear after car is stopped for a time (over 45 minutes) and may not appear again for another unknown interval. Already replaced (March 31, 2014) a brake position sensor switch ($186. 60 - my cost) at local selling Chevrolet dealership. This did nothing to fix the problem and when asked, dealer claimed no knowledge of any tsbs or of others having issues similar.
Brake lights come on when the brake pedal is not depressed. When the brake pedal is depressed slightly, the brake lights will go out. I replaced the brake pedal lever sensor. This cured the problem for about a month, now the problem has returned. The dealer did a parts warranty on the switch and supplied at no charge. I picked it up today, but have not installed it yet.
While driving the brake lights will come on for no reason and the service traction control warning will activate. If you tap the brakes the lights will go off for a few seconds but then come back on. If you apply the brakes to stop the lights go out and people behind you are confused. We get honked at and hand gestures constantly. We replaced the brake light switch and it was recalibrated and the problem still exists. We checked the fuse and put dialetric grease on it as sugestted by the dealer and still the brake lights activate without thouching the pedal. Gm needs to fix this before someone is killed.
I had a problem with the brake light function. When driving, the brake lights would be on. When pressing the brake, the lights would turn off. I had to pay to have a switch replaced by the dealership to fix this issue.
I have a 06 chevy mailbu my brake lights comes on when I am driving so it looks like I am riding my brakes I have been pulled over becase of this when I googled it there was a bunch of people with 2006 mailbus with the same problem I have had the brake light switch replaced about 5 times and that is not the problem no one can seem to find the problem not even the chevy dealership I think there should be a recall on this because it is dangerious to drive with the brake lights on when you press the brake pedal the brake lights go out for about 10 seconds then come right back on.

Vehicle brake lights on the rear of the vehicle will turn on with out any application of the brake pedal. Vehicle also has adjustable pedals, you can move pedals forward or back and get light to go out. General motors has replace brake switch once. Little over a year later vehicle is doing exact thing again. There is a brake position sensor in this system and it appears to be losing its calibration when pedals are moved causing the brake lights to come on. This causes an unsafe condition for anybody following the vehicle or riding in it.
4/16/2010 - brake lights flicker even when not depressed. Took to dealership for repair on 4/17/2010. Dealer stated that brake pedal was "out of position" and repositioned pedal. 4/26/2010 - brake lights on solid when the car is on. Took to a dealership; replaced brake sensor switch. Only 28k miles on the car. Consequences - cars behind are unable to tell whether the car is truly braking or not, resulting in increased risk of accident.

2003 Chevrolet Malibu have problems with rotors. The consumer was also told the vehicle had a defective brake lamp switch which caused parts to actually melt because the brakes stayed engaged while driving. One month later the vehicle was back to experiencing the same problem, the consumer stated when he attempted to make a u-turn, the tire did not turn they grabbed the road and sat there just bending the pressure of the turn and the vehicle bucked.
