37 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/15/2005

Turn signals do not work and indicator does not flash on dashboard. Failure began as an intermittent issue, but is now constant. There is no recall on for this issue. Replacement parts work for a short time, then fail.

38 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/14/2005

A faulty hazard switch causes the turn signals to intermittently stop working at the most in opportune time. On one occasion it almost resulted in a serious accident. The switch was replaced for the same reason by the dealership on April 15, 2002. It is now malfunctioning again only much more frequently than before. I see that there is a recall for this issue on 2000/2001 Malibu owners(id number 03v327000) but the dealership states that my VIN number does not show up in the recall. He also claims that since the part was already replaced once it would not be covered again. I searched the web and noticed that owners of 2002 Malibus are also complaining of the same problem. So, it is not just an isolated issue. Since I never use the hazard switch it can't possibly have gone bad because of wear and tear. Nor is it a part that would be used frequently enough to wear out. There is obviously a serious safety defect with the part.

39 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/10/2005

Gm's recall #03v327000 which states that the hazard light switch is defective and will keep the turn signals from flashing. My 2000 Malibu is having this trouble, but since the VIN is not within the break points, I will have to pay to have it fixed.

40 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/03/2005

Malibu 2002 turn signals and turn signal indicator do not work and will come on every once in awhile. Have seen many other complaints of this but chevy has not recalled the 2002 model. This is very dangerous if you are trying to merge onto the freeway or just around town. Do not want to take car in and spend hundreds of dollars if the problem can not be corrected like I've seen so many people say they have tried to do.

41 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

Turn signals and emergency flasher do not always work. Turn signals may work fine for days then suddenly not work. Or, turn signals may work for awhile while driving, then stop working suddenly.

42 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/30/2005

I drive a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. My turn signals work intermittently. This is a potentially dangerous problem not being able to inform other drivers, pedestrians, etc of intentions to turn. I have been informed to replace the hazard switch. Researching online I find that the 2000 and 2001 models have a similar problem and a recall has been initiated to replace a defective switch. It appears from online forums that many other drivers are experiencing the same problem with their 2002 Malibus. I wonder if the same defective switch was utilized on the 2002 model since the same problem exists. The recall should be extended to include the 2002 Malibu model as well.

43 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/26/2005

While driving at night and when I used my turn signal on for a left turn. It did not operate. My mechanic told me about a safety recall for my vehicle. I contacted team Chevrolet here in colorado springs,CO and was told there was no recall for my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu.

44 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/23/2005

Hazard flasher began working intermittently, then the turn signals began working intermittently. No pattern, they would be on then go off. I was in heavy freeway traffic with no turn signal or hazard flasher. I was able to get off the freeway and drive home using arm signals and slowing to allow faster traffic to pass me. The consumer wishes to withdrawal the complaint he filed with NHTSA. The manufacturer has agreed to remedy the vehicle's problem at no cost to the consumer. The consumer was told the recall did no apply to his vehicle identification number. The washer pump was replaced due to a leak.

45 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/15/2005

I have heard recently about turn signal problems with my 2002 Chevrolet Malibu and I would like to report the same condition. Sometimes the work and sometimes they don't. If they don't work right away you push the hazard button and the signals will work for a short period and then you have start the process over again. I've read that chevy had this problem with earlier models. Let me tell you the problems is continuing.

46 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/10/2005

47 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

48 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

Beginning yesterday (8/30/2005) our 2002 Malibu turn signals and high-beams sometimes work and sometimes do not. This is a known problem and a safety issue, but no current recall for this defect is in place, though there is a recall on 2000 and 2001 models with the same problem. I am having the hazard switch replaced Friday (9/2/2005) as the turn signals "go through there" according to jerry from the service dept. Where it will be replaced. He feels 85% sure that will fix it as he has "seen it before". I don't want to travel in high traffic areas without the ability to signal lane changes or turn intentions. I will save my receipts as surely a recall will be issued before someone dies due to this well-documented defect.

49 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/09/2005

At approximately 81,000 miles we noticed that occasionally the signals would not work. It was very sporadic in nature at first. However, over the course of the next 3,000 miles we have noticed that it is happening more frequently. When this was mentioned to the dealership representative at the 81,000 mile service we were told that the car had to be there when it was not working properly. Naturally, on the service date the signals were working. Some days the signals work and some days they don't. We have noticed the frequency of failure is more during damp, humid or rainy weather. The failure can be as short as five minutes or as long as one hour. We will be taking our vehicle in for the 84,000 mile service within the next few days and we will be showing them the information regarding your organizations investigation into the matter. We are very concerned that during one of these failures an accident will occur.

50 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/25/2005

Turn signals stop working (or won't work at all after first starting the car). This started happening the end of July and happens numerous times every time I drive the car. So far, activating/deactivating the hazard switch while keeping the turn signals on has eventually restored their use. I commute 50 miles each way to work every day, most of it on I-85 & 285 in atlanta. This is an incredibly dangerous situation that is obviously caused by a pervasive problem since there are numerous reports of this same failure. My mechanic has replaced my turn signal switch twice and has been assured by his parts source that this (3rd) time he will be provided a switch without the defect. So far I have paid $304. 98 and should be reimbursed by gm.

51 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

On several occasions I have an intermittent failure of the turn signals to operate. I have looked on this website and have noticed there is a recall of models of this vehicle up to 2001. It is obvious that Chevrolet is not including the 2002 models on the recall. I have seen several complaints from other consumers also. So why is Chevrolet not being forced to include 2002 models when there is obviously the same problem?.

52 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/10/2005

Blinkers/signals do not work, hazard switch replacement.

53 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/09/2005

The contact owns 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The turn signals/four-way hazard lights intermittently go on/off, and sometimes they are completely inoperable. The contact noticed this about two months ago, and it has gotten progressively worse. He has not taken vehicle to a dealer. A mechanic told him there was a recall 03v327000. General motors told him that this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to VIN.

54 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

Contact stated the hazard warning flashing switch failed. The first time he used it within 1 minute of turning the flashers on. He cited recall #03v327000. Gm told him this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN although was having the exact same problems as mentioned in the recall. This occurred about six weeks ago. Had the switch replaced. There were no other problems.

55 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

Hazard switch has stopped working or works only sometimes. Causes the blinkers and the hazard lights not to work, causing a possible accident.

56 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

57 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/16/2005

This is a follow-up to my report of the failure of the flashing of the turn signals and hazard warning lights (oid#10121781). I replaced the hazard warning switch in the dash on June 4, 2005, and this fixed the problem. This is the same part that is under a recall for the 2000 and 2001 models of this same car (NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000). As suggested previously, I think it would be appropriate to extend the recall to the 1997 models, since it is the same defective part.

58 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/16/2005

The turn signals and hazard signals suddenly stopped flashing. Intermittently, they flash rapidly when activated, but they typically just stay on continuously. This appears to be the same problem which led to a recall on the 2000 and 2001 models of this same car (NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000): "exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch". I think it would be appropriate to extend the recall to the 1997 Malibu models.

59 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

The turn signal malfunctions on my 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, which leads to total failure of the turn signal lights and the indicator on the instrument panel. These incidents occur without warning. They do not flicker. They just stop working and then work without problem. The incidents are random. I will be replacing the turn signal when I have the car serviced later this month .

60 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/28/2005

Consumer's vehicle turn signal would operate intermittently. It worked some times, and some times it would not work. Consumer fixed, it was an open circuit in the hazard switch. Which failed. Consumer knew of NHTSA recall 03v327000 on same make/ model, and year, but consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

61 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/30/2005

I own an '02 chevy Malibu (since 2/28/02). I had the same hazard switch problem w/my '02 Malibu that the '00 & '01 model years had, and I had to pay for its replacement (roughly $130). I had no turn signals or hazard blinkers until it was replaced. Gibson chevy of south holland, IL did the replacement (it's in their repair system). My car presently has a little over 45k miles. Gm should reimburse me for the money I was forced to pay, given the history of this defect with prior model years and the fact this situation has not seemingly been replaced with the '02 model year, either. I got no notification of a problem with this switch or a recall on it, either. I have had to have a modulator replaced last week (10/5/05) which affects the blower motor speeds in my vehicle's ventilation system ($152. 00). At speeds 1, 2 and 3, the blower motor wouldn't work at all. Each speed starting with the lowest to the higher speeds was going out-the only speeds working were #4, #5 & defrost. I was forced to have this replaced or I wouldn't be able to use the vents or defroster or the blower itself (& the defroster), would not work at all. This repair was done at brach auto repair (103rd & western Ave. , chicago IL -- this repair detail is in their system). Brach auto also replaced some parts in my fuel injection system (it was malfunctioning/about to go out). The amt I paid for this is also in their system. At that time, tom beaulieu informed me that gm has distributed a TSB this situation (which I was not informed of until I took my car in for the modulator repair), & how I must run my car w/ only shell or bp's 93 octane gasoline (even though the owner's manual states it should/can run on 87 octane). Now, due to a poor fuel injector design, running anything less than 93 octane in my '02 Malibu will result in more costly repairs. (3 separate failures / 3 separate parts on the same car). I want gm to reimburse me for the money I've spent for these repairs.

62 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/27/2005

The hazard switch is cutting off the blincker when I turrn them on. If I touch or move the hazard swtch then the blinker will start working again. 2002 chevy Malibu. I purchased this car band new with 11 miles on it. This started happening last year. I also see that a recall was done for this on the previous year model, looks like they didn't fix it on all Malibu's. I.

63 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/17/2005

Chev. 2000 Malibu recall 03043 (03v327000). Unable to get recall completed due to no parts available. At sloane Chevrolet service department (cottman Ave. , phila, PA. ) on 1/17/arrangements were made over 1 week in advance to come in for the recall. Recall description & recall number & VIN number were given to the Chevrolet dealer service department so they could br sure to have what's necessary to complete the service. Despite this, the dealer did not have the parts necessary to do the recall! this is after I made arrangements to get the work done while I was off from work, and traveled there on a treacherous snowy day. Suggestion was made by the dealer (sloane chev. ) to contact another dealership, make arrangements to bring the car in for the recall, and then hope that they have the part. Obviously Chevrolet/gm does not want to get this recall completed!.

64 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

66 Hazard Flashing Warning Light Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/12/2004

2002 Chevrolet Malibu turn signal works intermittently. My daughter drives this car and was involved in a minor accident in December 2004. She was trying to merge left in heavy traffic when a car just behind her ,and two lanes to the left, went for the same spot. Because the turn signal failed, the driver in the other lane did not know she was trying to merge and proceeded into the spot. My daughter had to swerve back into her lane to avoid the other car , and could not avoid rear-ending the vehicle ahead where traffic had suddenly stopped. I recently took this car to the dealer, who could find nothing wrong. A quick internet search reveals that this is a common problem, and in fact the previous two model years were recalled for this same problem, which is related to a bad hazard switch. I fiddled with the switch and found that tapping the switch causes the signals to malfunction. Although we didn't get this checked out until after the accident, I believe the accicent would have been avoided if the signals had been working, and I am really annoyed that the dealership seemed so ignorant of this well documented problem. Fortunately no one was injured, but they easily could have been.
