The esc turns off pretty much every time I drive the car. Last Monday the check engine light came on when the transmission was slipping m. The the transmission would no longer shift and the solenoid is stuck open while driving home from work. Prompting the dealership to try and sell me a whole new $5,000 trans. When the car only has 130,000 miles on it. The transmission has been running slow on acceleration but has never been stuck in first gear leaving me left on the side of the road waiting for help to come get me. The headlight burn out like every 6 months resulting in taking off the bumper or paying $200 from the dealership for a $5 bulb. I have no pictures since my car is at the dealership waiting for me to either go get or pay for the transmission.

I have a 2010 chevy Malibu and the passenger headlight keeps going out. Not burning out, but quits working! I have gone to change the bulb and we realized that it wasn't burnt out. All the other lights on that side work fine. We wiggles some wires and it would work again. A few times we could tap on the headlight assembly and it would come back on. So we put it together again and it worked fine for 2 weeks or so before it went out again.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, his headlights would intermittently fail to operate as needed without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to serval independent mechanics and has had multiple head light bulb replacement; however, the failure still persisted after each repair. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to diagnose the cause of failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

I have had the same problem for months now. My headlight (both sides at different times) keep going out. I've probably changed my headlights at least 6 times in the past 6 months. I've had the headlight harness changed as well because that burned out. 2 months later the new one burned out!!! I've read so many complaints about the same issue, chevy needs to do something about this. I'm so sick of buying headlights, harnesses, and paying for service!! its not like you just pop the headlight in on this stupid car.
Turning right onto highway when power steering went out completely. Ended up in the oncoming traffic lane. Had to have car towed. After 24 hours the power steering was back on. . . . Passenger headlight has been changed 4 times in 2 years and out again. Bulb connector was changed and harness was changed.

When driving my vehical all of a sudden the lower stearing went out and all these warning lights come on. It's super hard to steer I have 3 kids that ride in this car everyday and it's very dangerous. Also my headlight drivers side has gone out 4 times in the past 6 months and its very expensive to fix!.
With in the last 10 to 12 months I've had 5 headlights burn out. One the module had melted. The current light out is once again on the passenger side that burnt out January 24, 2020. So far to date it's been 2 on the driver side, 3 on the passenger side.
Esc turns off and on by itself while driving. Service power steering light comes on and the wheel is hard to turn I have to kill the car and restart it to get it to start working again. When I press my breaks the car jerks and the esc acvtive light comes on. The passenger side headlight goes in and out by itself I've replaced the bulb but it seems to be a wiring issue.
The passenger side low beam headlight has gone out 3 times in the past 2 years. The fuse was not blown any of the three times.
Low beam passenger side headlight works intermittently while driving. It turns out that it was due to the electrical wiring harness burning out. This is not an easy fix for this model, to gain access to the headlight assembly the entire front bumper needs to be removed. I was ticketed and had to pay the fine since I was not able to get a shop to take off the bumper within the 24 hour grace period allotted by the local police department.

Vehicle would not start. Dealership changed fuse box and wiring in trunk due to melting. Now low beam headlights not working. Replaced one months ago, now both not working again. Noticed similar complaints on your website.
I have replaced 2 low beam front headlights on the passenger side of this vehicle already. I've researched this and it seems that all these cars have the same problem. Low beam bulb keeps going out. Something needs to be done about this. As there is no recalls on this issue yet every Malibu has the same problem.
Low beam headlights comes on and off. While attempting to drive at night the driver side light would not come on. The next morning it came on. A few days later the passenger side light would not come on. Now both lights won't come on. I am only drive during daylight hours until they are replaced.
Exterior passenger side headlight keeps going out. I have had it replaced/repair about 4 times in the last 6 months. It may go out at anytime.
Driver side headlight kept going in and out until completely going out and not working. When getting a new bulb put it it did the same thing a week later. The wiring in the headlight is faulty. The same thing goes for the front speakers of the car. The front speakers will come on and off on their own as well.
The low beam headlights keep going out. The bulbs are not burning out. It's something in the elecrical that's causing this. It's very dangerous to drive at night because both headlights have gone off all of a sudden while driving down the road. I believe this is a huge safety concern & chevy needs to figure out what's going on & have a fix for it. After reading on a bunch of forums, this is a huge problem with these vehicles. After getting the bulbs to work, they only work for about 2 weeks then go out again. This questionnaire wants me to put in a date that this happened but it happens all the time for the last 4 years, so I'll just put in the most recent date.
The headlights keep going out I have replaced the bulbs and connectors several times and they are currently out again for the 8th time.
I have a 2010 chevy Malibu and the passenger headlight keeps going out. Not burning out, but quits working! I changed the bulb about 5 times before I realized that it wasn't burning out. All the other lights on that side work fine. A few times I could tap on the headlight assembly and it would come back on. I took it apart and found that the plastic connector was broken and shorted out, so I ordered a new wiring harness that goes from the ground wire split to the headlight assembly, put it together and it worked fine for 2 days and went out again. I took the front end off agian and unplugged the bulb and plugged it back in and it works fine again. I have checked all the wires and the ground screw and can't find a problem. This continues to happen. I have also looked this up and a large number of people are having issues with this from 2009-2012 chevy Malibu.
My passenger side headlight low beam continues to go out. I get it replaced and it will go out again in as short of time as 6 months. Driver side does not have the same issue. The I internet is full of complaints about this same issue.
Upon starting my vehicle, the left lowbeam headlight was out, I tapped on the car next to the light and it came back on, the next day I started my vehicle it was out again but wouldn't work after tapping, got it repaired but less than a month it went out again along with the right side, they repaired it by installing multi purpose connectors and now the left low beam headlight is out again, this is getting way too pricey and time consuming.
The passenger side low beam headlight keeps failing. The wiring harness keeps frying over and over. Chevy needs to fix this issue!.
Front headlight will go out like it is burned out - but then randomly turn on later - change the bulb and it will work for a few days then shut off.
I have gotten my low beam headlights changed on both sides twice, costing me $150 each time due to having to remove the bumper, and they keep going out!!! I work at night in an area heavily populated with deer, among other issues with just needing to have my headlights working regularly. I don't have money to keep replacing them! and I just got it in October.
Passenger side headlights have repeatedly gone out for the 7 yrs I have owned this car. I have changed the headlights at least once every 3-4 months. I have searched forums/messageboards related to car problems and this is a widely known problem with this model. To make matters worse, the bumper needs to be removed to replace the light which I can not do myself and I have to take it to a servicing shop which is very expensive. Here is a webpage dedicated to the issues. . Read more...
In the past few years my headlight keeps going out. I replace the bulb and like a month later it goes out again. Went to replace again and bulb was fine but bad wiring. Fixed that and today now both headlights are out. I just replaced them in the summer not sure how they can be out again! it is not an easy process to get to these lights making it a lot of work and money if I dont do it myself which now that its negative out I will be paying to get this fixed yet again. I was just leaving the grocery store turned them on and they were not working.
The passenger side low beam keeps going out, even after repeatedly replacing headlight. Just yesterday, the driver side went out too so no low beams usable currently. My reading has brought me to the conclusion that in 2008-2012 chevy Malibus, the daytime running lights are pulling voltage from the low beams which is increasing the amperage in the low beams which is causing overheating and therefore the bulbs and connectors to go out repeatedly.
The low beam headlights will stop working, but the bulbs are still good. This has happened while I was driving. Both lights do not work and replacing the bulb does not fix the problem.
My 2011 Malibu has faulty headlights that continuously go out and cannot be changed without removing the front bumper which requires the assistance of a mechanic and therefore costs hundreds of dollars to do. Even after the bulb is changed, it has been known to go out again as quickly as hours later. This creates unsafe driving conditions as often times the outages occur spontaneously, at night, and on dark roadways. It is becoming increasingly dangerous and financially taxing to own and operate this vehicle due to the problems with the headlights.
Right front low beam headlight worked intermittently, then not at all. The wire harness was removed and replaced. Pictures attached show melted low beam bulb connector on the oem harness.
My passenger side headlight wont stay on. When it died I went to replace it and it turned on so I went to put it back together and it turned off again, so I took it back a part. I went through that a few times before giving up.
When I first purchased the vehicle the engine light would constantly come on and go off but now the engine light is always on. I just recently started having issues with the airbags on the passenger side not being engaged and the engine esc comes on whenever it pleases, even when the weather is good outside. Last weekend, my battery died for the first time, I'm just glad that I had someone to jump me off. My primary concern is my headlights. I have gotten pulled over by the police 3 times due to my intermittent headlights. The first time my right side headlight went out, a officer pulled me over and informed me of the issue, so I got it fixed the very next day. A week goes by and I get pulled over again and the officer informed me but this time I informed the officer that I just changed the bulb a week ago and he mentioned that it could be the wiring. After the officer left, I got out my car and hit the headlight with my fist and it came back on just to go back out the next day. I went to my local mechanic and he changed the light bulb socket. That only lasted 3 or 4 weeks and now I literally have to ride with my headlights on bright or can't be out at night. After going to multiple auto shops, they all says that it's the wiring, which I already knew because the gages on my dashboard lights up like christmas lights every other day.
Both low beam headlights just quit working but the fuses are good and the headlights aren't a month old.
I have continuously had to change my passenger headlight bulbs and that is a hazard and without them you get a ticket. This headlight has gone out at least 3 times a year. I am driving when it happens and if I get out and hit the headlight it may or may not come back on. This started about 2 years ago.

I had to replace the wiring harness for the headlight unit due to the low beam connector melting and now only 3 months later, both low beam connectors have melted leaving me with no headlights. This is a very common problem on these cars and a huge safety issue. Both times this has happened, I was driving. Once on city streets and twice on the interstate.
