38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

Car leaking fuel from fuel tank. Just notice gas smell for about a year now. Kept getting worse, then check engine came on around December 2015, about a fuel pressure sensor. Finally looked under the car and fuel is coming out of the top of the fuel tank. Actually see fuel leaking from the tank, and dirt stains were fuel has been leaking.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

I received this car from my dad in January of 2014. He warned me that if you fill it up all the way that the gas level will drop from full to empty. He said it happened to him and he had to turn off the vehicle and turn it back on and press enter to fix it. I never filled the car all the way up over the course of the last year until about three weeks ago (January 2015). After doing so, the tank would read full and after a few minutes would drop down to empty. My check engine light also came on. For the past few weeks, the gas level will read either full or empty, no in between, no matter how much gas I put in it. I see there are a lot of other people having this same issue, and I agree that there should be a recall on this matter. We should not to have pay for an obvious and repeated issue with this make and model of car.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

While driving on a crowded freeway the car started to slow down on its own. I figured I was out of gas so I checked the gauge and it was at 1/2 tank. The message said service esc, engine power reduced. There was no place to safely pull over so I had to continue to the next exit at the reduced speed. Needless to say this was very frightening as traffic was trying to pass me. I could have been rear ended but luckily nothing bad happened. I found a place to stop, shut off the engine and waited 5 minutes. I restarted the car and it ran normal as if nothing happened. The check engine light was still on. I reset the code ( something about a tps) when I got home. This scenario has happened several more times even at city speeds (35 mph). I don't drive on the freeway anymore and have to take alternate routes that are safer to pull over when this happens. I think I should sell the car but I cant in good conscience pass this on to someone else like gm did to me. Really guys this should be investigated ASAP so that no one gets hurt or killed !.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

Just bought this vehicle used from the dealer. The keypad didn't work, so we tried locking it by the switch on the door. . . Still didn't work. 3 of the doors will lock when the car is put in drive. 3 (most of the time) will unlock when the car is manually unlocked in the driver door by the key. One of the doors only works by manually pushing down or pulling up on the lock no matter what. To get in the car when the doors decide not to unlock, I have to either have one kid climb in to unlock them or roll the back windows down so they can reach in to unlock them. This is a safety issue. I have two kids that could be trapped in the car if we were to have an accident and the doors will not unlock by the button or keypad. For the car to be this new, it should not have this issue. The car also has something wrong with the fuel sensor. On highways (continuous driving) you can watch the gas measurement slowly go down. An example, a 1 hour and 40 minute trip leaving on a full tank tooke the gas down to below half a tank. But when the vehicle is stopped or back in the city, the gas level will rise back up toright below or right above 3\4 tank. It was below a half tank on the highway and when we filled up before leaving back out it only took $10 to get it back on full. Also another issue that should not be occurring in a newer vehicle.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Whenever I fill up my gas tank the gas gauge will register it as full when I start it up. But after going 10 feet the car will chime and the fuel gauge will go from full to empty and the light will illuminate and I will get a message that says low fuel. When I turn my car on the next time the check engine light will illuminate after driving 30 miles or so the fuel gauge will go from empty to full a few times and then it will read correctly but the engine light will stay on for a few more engine on and off cycles and then turn off. When it gets to about 1/4 tank it will start acting up again and the check engine light will come back on. The cruise control is fairly aggressive when it is going back to the speed it is set at and the car jerks when I reactivate it. I called the chevy dealership to order the parts for the recall brake lights may or may not illuminate the person told me that she couldn't see anything about the recall and gave me the excuse that it was fairly new and I might not be in the system yet but I was sitting in front of my computer looking at it with my own eyes. Will call ASAP and ask about it again,.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

When I filled up my gas tank it started reading incorrectly, and would show empty. Over the period of a week the gas gauge does not work at all and my check engine light is on all the time. Took it to mechanic and he stated that the senor needs to be replaced. This is over a $500 cost.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/24/2014

I bought the new Malibu with only 3 miles on the odometer. The gas tank was filled up at the dealership but the gas gauge shows it's only 7/8 filled. My dealer has checked for recalls and bulletins and said they even checked it and find nothing wrong. I was told when I fill the tank to not leave the handle on auto fill but to hold the handle to fill it and that should help but it doesn't!.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

I had just filled my gas tank to full. I drove down the street for a few blocks and the fuel gauge all of a sudden went to empty. I pulled over to the side of the road and turn the car off, then turned it back on again. The fuel gauge went back to full. But as I continued to drive down the street, it went back down to empty. I took it to the repair shop and was told that I needed to replace the fuel sensor for which I did. However, upon researching the latest recall of gm's that addresses the steering column issue (I'm having this problem too), I discovered that the fuel sensor issue was recalled previously. So I called chevy and was told that my VIN was not recalled. I need some direction/guidance on how to get my VIN included in the previous recall, if at all possible so I may be reimbursed. Is there anything I can do since my Malibu also experienced the same problem with the fuel sensor as other Malibu's? your assistance/guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

We did take it to gm dealer and it tested as diagnostic code p0463 fuel tank level sending unit . As time has gone on, when the gauge gets down to three fourths full, the gauge will go to empty and check engine light and low fuel light will come on.

I have had issues since the day after I got it. I have had this vehicle for less then a month and within 24 hours of having it the issues started. The fuel gauge drops to empty, when I fill the tank. 61 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

I'm highly upset with my vehicle. The first time this happened was back in June and I had just filled up my car and I drove home the car was fine. Got back in the car to go to the store not even 30 minutes later, start the car pull out of my apartments and it immediately said no fuel! so I freaked out thinking someone stole my gas or the gas station had some bad gas. . . . Then the next day it would go back and forth from f to e. It's now almost the middle of Aug. And it still does the same thing. I ran out of gas on 8/2/13 taking my mother to the hospital for an emergency! something awful could have happened and it all would've been because I can never tell how much gas is really in my car! there needs to be a recall for this, I'm obviously not the only person with this problem and from this site, complaint's go back to 2011! that's 2 years and nobody has tried to get this issue fixed! there can be accidents because of this!!! I would love to not have to pay to get this fixed because I'm not paying $600+ to get something really simple fixed but because you have to drop the gas tank it makes it more expensive. . . . . Please get this fixed because I'm bout ready to get rid of this car because of it! had it for 3 years and I refuse to spend that kind of money on a part that should be considered a recall.

62 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

After parking my 2010 chevy Malibu, I can smell gasoline at the rear driver's side exterior (gas tank is on opposite side). This has been occurring for some time since I purchased the vehicle in March 2013. I don't know when I first smelled it. I also have had poor gas mileage since I purchased the vehicle. I finally mentioned it to someone and they told me to look up recall notices. There is no recall but I found many similar complaints from other chevy Malibu owners.

63 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/16/2013

I pulled in gas station shut car off, attendent filled tank, when he was done I paid and started car, car dinged a lot and gas gage registared empty, and message on screen said low fuel, and check engine light was on. Long story short if you bounce car gage comes back up to full, then drops back down until you do this a couple times, then runs ok. This happened again yesterday 03/31/2013, seem to only happen when I fill the tank. I noticed there are other complaints on this, is there a recall on this?.

64 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

66 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

Gas fuel gauge goes to empty/then full, unknown how mach gas is in tank. When in the midwestern parts of the country, during winter months you do want to know how much fuel is in tank.

67 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

My fuel gauge will jump from empty to whatever level of fuel is in the tank without cause. It has made my "check engine" light go on. On occasion the light will go out but then it will reappear. I have changed fuel caps to see if that would help. I finally had the engine diagnosed and had trouble code p0463 come up which indicates a fuel level sensor circuit high voltage. I have investigated the problem online and see that this is a very common in the 2007 Malibu and begins to appear when the vehicle is @ 4 - 5 years of age. I guess I would like to know what Chevrolet is going to about the issue since it seems so common, it seems to be because of a faulty or cheap part, and the repair is rather expensive.

68 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/02/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that she would refuel the fuel tank to capacity and the fuel gauge would provide an inaccurate reading of empty. The fuel gauge would chime and the check engine light would illuminate on the instrument panel when the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle for inspection by a mechanic and was awaiting diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle and provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was 126,000.

69 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/24/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the fuel gauge malfunctioned and indicated that the fuel tank was full when it was actually empty. The failure recurred numerous times and the gauge even malfunctioned while in the park position. A week after the failure started, the check engine light began to illuminate and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that they would have to drop the entire gas tank. The manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 66,900.

70 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

The fuel sensor is very erratic. As soon as the car is filled up with gas, the fuel sensor will go from f to e in the matter of seconds. When this problem first began, the gauge would go from full to empty until I drove just enough that the car's fuel level was not completely full. At this point, the sensor would work and I was able to rely on the fuel gauge on the dashboard. After some time, however, the sensor stopped working altogether. Now the sensor is constantly moving from full to empty for no reason whatsoever. The check engine light is always on and I never know how much gas is in the tank. I have to keep track with the trip monitor. Auto repair shops have quoted this repair at around $600 stating that the car needs a new fuel assembly kit. This issue must be fixed in order to pass emissions testing.
