Clear portions of both driver and passenger side dual colored (I. E. Clear/red) tail-light lenses have succumbed to spontaneous appearance of cracks. Cracks are largely parallel and do not yet completely reach the outer surface. Conjecture: appears as though possibly due to differential expansion/contraction of surrounding red plastic portion of lens.

I just had to have my driver's side rear tail light assembly replaced. I had to pay for it myself. The Chevrolet Malibu 2000 tail light leaked allowing water to enter the light. I do not believe I am the only one who has encountered this problem. There has been no help from manugacturer to pay for this replacement.
While applying brakes tail light malfunctioned. Tail light would come on and off on its own. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that an electrical short could not be found inside of the vehicle.

Water was leaking inside of the tail lights, causing the bulb to short out. Dealer was notified, and informed the consumer that it was not covered under a recall.
While braking tail lights failed. Dealerships repaired the problem eight times, but the consumer was still having the same problem.
In July of 2002 my right tail light went out. When I took apart the lighting section I smelt burning . I went to the auto zone to buy a replacement but couldn't remove the bulb. I than took it to the chevy garage to be fixed. They said that the bulb was wrong in the board. Now (11-18-02) my tail light is out again and when I checked the other bulbs were also appearing to be melted in the board also. I took it back to my chevy garage to be fixed. They replaced the board on the right and the bulbs. Upon checking the left side rear lights were out now. They replaced the left side tail lights board and bulbs too. They are working now but next? this is too familiar of a coincedence to be happening I think this is a malfunction in the car itself. If this happens again I'll be back to complain and try to find out why this is happening to more than just my Malibu! dt.
Consumer states that tail light melted into the assembly, unable to change bulb, resulting in no tail light. This is a common problem.
The right rear tail lights holds water after driving through car washes and rain. Then the brake light burns out.
Right tailight collects water everytime it rains in relsult the lights go out, in result the panel for the light has rusted and cannot be used, this is the 2nd panel I have purchased becuase of water leaking into taillight. I have seen 3 other mailibu's with the same situation. I want Chevrolet to fix this problem I have to keep paying to purchase a new panel because of the rust, my vehicle will not pass inspection due to this defect, I feel it is a manufacturers defect.
VIN is 1g1ne52j0y6327722 manufactured 05/00. Rain water collects and is retained in right tail light assembly. One lamp of four shorted and blew. Assembly is inadequately sealed and insulated against water. Cost of new reaplacement tail light assembly is $249.
The rear tail lights on my Chevrolet Malibu are about to burn I can smell a bakalite smell when I open the trunk. I have been going to maroone chevy in pembroke pines saw the service rep ( mandy ramos ) complainng to him since 2000 and he said that there was no recalls on the lights. Ifound out that general motors filed a confidentiality report and that way gm did not repair the lights. I disabled person and when I bought the car I knew that it had to last a long time. Now I am fearful of it catching on fire. It cost me $ 25,000. 00 to buy and gm has the nerve to keep ontelling me for the past 5 years that there is nothing that can be done. It could have been done back in 2000 when they requested the confidentiality agreement being approved, they knew that they had this problem. The report is ea00010 I found this out today online. The cost of the pair of lights is $ 500. 00. Tell me where I can get this kind of money on disability. The government is good at hiding things. Maybe they can find out how I can come up with the money before I get burned alive as I am disabled.
Consumer has replaced pads/calipers and rotors 3 times, and getting ready to replace them again. Vehicle was shaking/shuttering and grinding when brakes were applied. Chevrolet dealer didn't seem to think it was a problem. It was no reason for them to be replaced this close together. Manufacturer could only say there was no recall, and until then they have no obligation. The tail lamp failed. Right rear door sometimes won't open from inside and difficult to open from outside. Consumer demand a refund of the full purchase price of the vehicle or a comparable vehicle.
Water entering right rear tail light - left rear tail light is burning bulbs out also.
Ea00010; tail lights went out at least 6 times. Dealer could not determine the problem. Please provide further information.
Rotor probems: 1st@10,333 2nd@17,914 and again @26,000. Also problems with door chime-would not stop chiming with keys out and lights off. Was taken in 6 times before resolved. Also taken in for tailight seal coming loose and now must go in again bc the driver rear passenger door will not open from the inside, door latch does not work. Car is a lemon. I have wasted too much of my time by continually going back for warranty work. A new car should not have this many problems. Have filed a complaint with gm directly on 3-24-00 bc this is not getting resolved.
