1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

Issue started with gear shift not going into park and then power steering started having issues and quit working while driving with wheel shaking back and forth. Next transmission began slipping and now barely shifts. Wheel jerks so hard when I turn now that it kicks my hand off wheel. Coughlin automotive in london, ohio told us that recall had been fixed but refuses to give us proof. Power steering has gone out in the middle of turning.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

I purchased a brand new 2010 chev Malibu 2lt seven years ago. It's automatic, has low miles, well serviced, and excellent upkeep. Since ownership, I've not had any major problems. However, recently, while driving, and going from low to highway speed, I noticed the car intermittently "jerked". It seemed almost as if gears were slipping and getting stuck. I thought, this couldn't be safe. Unfortunately, I had to get my towed for service after the vehicle wouldn't move because it wouldn't change gears. After having the diagnosed, I was told the transmission failed due to some "internal defect" in it. I could not believe it! absolutely unconscionable! I did some research and learned gm had some recalls between 2008 - 2010 due to transmission problems. I loved my Malibu 2lt prior to receiving this news about the transmission. It appears, gm needs to take another look at the safety and performance on the transmissions of the 2010 Malibu.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/05/2017

Transmission, the car jerks at all speeds, slows down and speeds up . The longer you drive it the worse it gets. When you go to take off and push the gas it's like you pushed the gas and let off and then all the sudden takes off . It'd like the transmission is constantly slipping and then grabbing .

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

Car slips 1st to 2nd (rpm buzzes up) this occurs when car has been driven for 30 miles or more and when it is above 85 degrees. It also hesitates 2nd to 3rd when cold. I was almost hit in the rear twice when the car slipped between 1st to 2nd. Took car to the dealership and they said nothing they could do as it did not show anything on the computer. Note that since they looked at the car on 7/26/13 the transmission continues to slip between 1st to 2nd gear. Note that the dealership test drove in the morning when it was still cool outside and did not drive it but a few miles. I was charged for checking the transmission $84. 53. Car was first taken to another dealership on 11/23/12 as the transmission was slipping between 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears (44,000 miles on car). Computer showed no issues, car was one quart low in transmission fluid. Charge was $49. 69. First I don't understand the difference in price as the dealership 11/23/12 did more and charged less. Second the car continues to hesitate when shifting between gears "everyday" I drive it (in the afternoon when it is warm). I am scared to drive the car due to almost being hit. Plus I am having to pay for this when it is still under warranty.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/25/2011

2011 chevy Malibu 2lt - transmission slipping between 1st and 2nd gears, also 2nd to 3rd. Takes a dangerously long time for it to kick in to the correct gear and I have had some close calls pulling into traffic. Also, this six speed transmission is defective when trying to pass another vehicle as once you are in 6th gear, it will not drop to 5th in order to pass. The rpms race up and nothing happens. All of this and gm says that the vehicle is operating as normal and there is no problem. Obviously there is. This is a defect and needs to be replaced. Multiple discussion forums online describe the same problem with this model year and also 2010 1lt and 2tl 4cyl and 6cyl. Something needs to be done and gm is not doing it. Help!!.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

Purchased this car from centennial Chevrolet, the transmission was slipping at times. Took it back several times to dealership and they said they could not find nothing wrong. Even after a mechanic had it personally after a few days. To this date it is slipping dramatically, and since the car is now out of warranty it has to come out of my pocket twice! know a few other people that have had the same issues and they had to replace the transmission for $2400. Doesn't seem quite right to me.
