My 97 chevy Monte Carlo has had no lower brake lights for some time . I had my car checked by an auto electrician and was told that the problem was so severe and it would probably never find the source of the problem. I am very concerned with this issue being it may cause serious injury to my self/family or others. As I drive on the road I notice many autos of the same year and type have the same problem so I know its not only my vehicle . I thought it could of been the factory installed security system so I had it uninstalled to come to the fact that it was not the security system after all. Please help with this issue . This is my only source of transportation as I am disabled and cannot afford another vehicle . I have put constant repairs on this car , fuel inj tank, etc. Again please address this urgent issue.

Turn signals sometimes do not work. Hazard lights do not stay on . Constantly shut right off. Driving at times can be dangerous when you put on the turn signal and it doesn't work.

Traffic signals constantly fail to work, used to be able to push hazard light button and they would come back on, now hazard lights won't work either. Have almost had 4 accidents because blinkers failed to work, have almost been cited by the local police until I proved it was a mechanical failure. Can't afford the cost of repair, because I had to pay out of my pocket for catalytic converter replacement when it failed, though it was a manufacturer defect, because GMC and dealer wouldn't make it good, and the engine shut down completely.
This is my second gm vehicle with the same malfunction. First, the windshield wipers would not turn on. Then the right blinker would not work (stays solid, doesn't flash). Then there was a small fire accompanied by a lot of smoke coming from the steering column. This is a 1997 chevy Monte Carlo. The other car I had with the same malfunction was a 1995 chevy beretta. All repairs are costly.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While driving 55 mph, smoke appeared from the glove compartment and the engine burst into flames. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The contact has gone back and forth with the manufacturer, but they have not inspected the vehicle. Four years after the fire, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 09v116000. The current and failure mileages were 36,000.

The turn signals work when they want to, the oil pressure gauge works when it wants to, the sun roof opens if it wants to. It has been to the dealer on this and they say they can't duplicate the failure. These systems don't work more than do work. This has been happening since the car was purchased in 2001. If you can't help I guess I will have to pay now to have it fixed when it should have been fixed under warranty.
Intermittently instrument lights would not come on. Dealer notified, and was unable to locate problem. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.

Electronic components on dash have been cutting off and not operating. Dealer has seen vehicle several times, and said they fixed it but more problems keep arising. The vehicle was determined defctive and was returned to the dealer in a deal made with the consumer.
