I took my car into john hall Chevrolet on 5/19/2017 to have the ignition recall done. Prior to my taking it there I was experiencing several issues with my car that no single diagnostic could quite pinpoint. Needless to say I replaced several things yet to no prevail. The car would just stop running luckily before I reached over 10 mph and on several occasions while trying to turn in traffic I lost power steering. All while the key was in the on position. Finally a more updated sensor scanner detected an electrical issue within the ignition itself. When I went to the dealership I was told they would only do what the recall required them to do. Even though I told them what it was doing and asked if they could check to make sure I didn't have to worry about leaving there and the car shutting off and /or no power steering I was told no . I would have paid to know,to have them scan it, whatever. Needless to say after they fixed their part the car is still doing the same thing. Even when the man brought me my car I asked how did she start? he said not good and walked away. Also I left them with 1 key shouldn't there have been something done to both? my car may be old but she's been well maintained . Great strong motor and alot of new parts. The starter and fuel pump were pretty much wrecked by the little electrical issue within the ignition. Confused and overheated simply trying to start the car and hope it stays running. It's that electrical issue that keeps saying yes enough voltage then nope can't have it. It's been proven not only by scanning but by reading and testing .

When I get in the car at times and pout key in ignition, there is absolutely nothing. The electrical system is dead. I have to disconnect the negative on the battery for about 2 minutes to get it to work again. I also experience flashing dome light, brake light on, ignition bell ringing with nothing in it, also indicators on dash panel, security, battery, door open, low fuel, change oil soon, and they will not stop showing until I disconnect the battery again and set system. I put a compete new ignition in it, both the key part and the ignition block and I still have this problem. I was told by Chevrolet dealer that there is no way to bypass the security in this car because there is a chip in the starter that prevents this. When I get out of the car and press the lock on the key fob remote, the horn blows as an indicator that the car is locked, but I can walk over and open the doors every time. The lock system for the doors is not working electrically either. I am at odds as to what to do with this problem because before I spend money to fix it, I would like to know what is causing it first. All the dealers want at least $119. 00 just to diagnose the problem. And, I feel that if they want my service they could give me a break and then fix my problem. That would bring e back again and again. If you can, please help me here. The chevy dealer said gm doesn't even have a fix for this issue each and every time this has happened, the vehicle was stationary and not running initially. Ingersol Chevrolet says there are no recalls on the ignition system for my 2003 Monte Carlo ss 3800, 3. 8 vehicle.

I took the car to a chevy dealer for the ignition switch recall dated July 3 2014. I told them about problems with the ignition switch such as the key can be pulled out when car is running and sometimes the starter stays on with engine running also problems turning the key. I waited while they did the recall service. When they were done they told me they put a plastic cover on the key. I started the car and found the problems were still there. I told them the recall was for a ignition switch not ignition key and their fix did nothing to fix the problem. They told me this fix is all they can do. A few weeks later,I could not get the car to shut off. I had to force the ignition off using a screwdriver and I had to buy a new ignition switch and install it myself however I will have to go to a locksmith so he could make the new key work on my door. 150. 00 foa a switch. Still have to pay a locksmith. I want my family to be safe in my car. I don't think g m feels the same.

Since I have owned the 2002 cheverolet Monte Carlo ss. I have experienced many glitches with the electrical system in this car. First of all the cruise control light would come on without being selected and then I would begin to notice that if the cruise control light was on the heating/cooling system would not come on. The turn signals would not operate. I also began to notice that the anti theft system would engage and shut down the car preventing it from starting up. The ignition would just click but never engage. This has continue to happen off and on for the last 2 years. I have replaced the alternator, the battery, the starter. The cooling fans, the thermostat and serviced other areas but this still happens. I found out that there are many other owners of the 2002 cheverolet Monte Carlo ss who are experiencing the same problems. I purchased my car used but there are owner who purchased their vehicles new and have continuously experienced electrical malfunctions with their vehicles as well. I feel gm should be responsible for the shoddy workmanship they did on this vehicle from the date it was manufactured.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. When she attempted to start the vehicle it would not start. She called aaa to start the vehicle and was advised that she needed a starter. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and the starter was replaced. After the starter was replaced the failure recurred a month later. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who replaced the body control module. The failure occurred again and she currently has a diagnostic testing appointment scheduled. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 63,400. Updated 10/21/10. The consumer stated the vehicle has failed to start on six occasions. The pass key lock system was the problem, but Chevrolet would not acknowledge that was the problem. Updated 10/26/jb.

I have a 2000 chevy Monte Carlo with 56,000 miles on it. It has been nothing but trouble. Have had alot of repairs on it. Now it has a popping noise in the steering column, and loud front end noise. I was told the steering column problem had a recall on it,because one of my friends chevy impala had the same problem and theirs was fixed under recall. I contacted Chevrolet, they said there was no recall on my Monte Carlo. Seems if thre is a defective part on this model, gm should replace it with no charge . Also, the frontend has had a very loud roar in it since we purchased it used with 12,000 miles on it. We replaced the tires, which did not help, and I was told the front hubs had defective bearings which did not have enough grease and could not be greased. My friend replaced the front hubs on their chevy impala with improved hubs and corrected the problem. I have had numerous electrical problems with this car, including the electric windows repaired four times, starter, altenator, turn signals and hazard flashers, paint, the car is supposed to be black, instead it's black and white polka dot. I believe this car should be declared a lemon under the lemon law. I have put way to much money into this car with just 56,000 miles on it. I would appreciate your help on my problems with this car, as I believe there should be a recall on the front hubs and the problem in the steering column. I can't afford to keep spending money on this car, I just keep throwing good money after bad. I think gm should repair these problems at no charge. Thank you very much for your time.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While decelerating from 45 mph, the brakes failed. The contact lost control of the vehicle and struck a guard rail. There were no injuries. The dealer cleaned the rotors and brakes; however, the vehicle continued to hesitate when attempting to stop. The manufacturer stated that the dealer should diagnose the failure. The current mileage was 31,498 and failure mileage was 9,000. Updated 02-19-08 the consumer stated they did not hit the guard rail, there were limited brakes the vehicle pulled to the right. The consumer further stated this is the second incident and the remedy for the dealer is to machine the rotors, however the defect persists and pedal pulsates. The consumer stated after vehicle starts the starter stays engaged and a/c is inoperable. Updated 02/14/08.
While driving without warning the vehicle stalled and became difficult for the consumer to control. The starter and flywheel had to be replaced.
Starter hang-I purchased a 2001 Monte Carlo LS in may 2001 and sometime during the first week of having this vehicle I noticed that there was some type of starter hang-up, whenever I try to start the car, the starter return spring is not making the clutch assembly return, it hangs up and cause the car to make a noise as if you have started your car with the engine running. The number of times this has happen is to many to count.
