Chevrolet S10 owners have reported 11 problems related to ignition module (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
This complaint is about the 2000 Chevrolet s-10 pickup truck with the 4 cln. Motor. It first started going dead while driving up the road. I would pull over, turn it completely off and restart it without a problem. After giving it a tune up it stopped going dead but began stalling when trying to pull off from a stop sign or traffic light. I would be surprised if no one has been killed yet because of this. I have asked several people I have seen with this type of truck and they have had the same problem.

Vehicle has stalled 4 times at various speeds. Taken to dealer 4 times, fuel module/fuel filter, and instrument cluster were replaced. Did not remedy the problem. At this time dealer was replacing igniion switch. Consumer added that a new computer was placed in the truck and was told by the service dept. That they are 100% sure that this is the problem. (picked truck up on 25-Jul-2002 and so far no problem).

Engine speed will increase from idle to 2400 rpm without throttle input. This condition has occurred both when the vehicle is in motion and when the vehicle is stopped. When in motion, this condition creates a sudden acceleration problem. The only way for the driver to get engine control back from the computer (?) is to shut off engine and restart. This is an ongoing problem - for a year now - and occurs several times a week. I have taken the vehicle to the local Chevrolet dealership, but was told that they were unable to diagnose the problem because the engine check light light hadn't come on. I have also e-mailed Chevrolet about this problem several months ago, but have received no reply or acknowledgement. Aside from being an inconvieniance, this problem with the engine speed control is contributing to excessive brake and clutch wear, and has the possibility of putting the vehicle out of control with possible associated loss of life. Please help. I have read of similar problems with other 1996 s-10's that seem to be related to a bad computer program in the pcm computer. Chevy don't seem too interested in helping out, so you're my last hope in getting this problem addressed. Thank-you.
Vehicle suddenly surges from 1000 rpm tp 2000 rpm, also computer failure.
Engine races between 1200 and 2000 rpms due to electronic control module failure.
Vehicle designed not to slow down within the first 1-3 seconds after foot is removed from accelerator pedal , causing excessive use/wear of brakes.
The vehicle cuts off at high and low speeds, and takes a few minutes to get started again. Dealer has replaced the computer 3 times.
Engine misses often during acceleration and while using cruise control, consumer states problem is due to faulty ignition system.
