The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet S10. The contact noticed that the charging gauge was low and the vehicle was not charged at the proper level. He also stated that the gauges and interior lighting worked intermittently. The dealer stated that part of the wiring harness had melted. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was not included in recall # 97v208001 (electrical system:wiring:front underhood). The current and failure mileages were 68,000.

2 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 07/02/2003

Consumer pulled into a parking lot when smoke began emitting from under the hood. Vehicle then caught on fire under the hood. Transmission fluid was just flushed approximately 1 hour before incident occurred.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 01/11/2003

Beginning December 2002, vehicle will unexpectedly lose power and lack accelerator response. Code p0123 active and present indicating problem in the throttle position sensor circuit. Sensor replaced and wiring inspected. Problem persists.

4 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 06/17/2002

While driving 30-35 mph, a fire started in the engine compartment. Dealer and manufacturer were notified. The engine had already stopped and vehicle was coasting when the fire became evident. The brakes were non-funtional, consumer stopped the vehicle by means of emergency brake. Truck was consumed and totally engulfed in about five minutes. Total loss.

6 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 05/22/2000

While traveling on the street at approximately 20-25 mph noticed smoke coming into the vehicle. Pulled vehicle over, flames broke out from under the hood. Local fire department / police arrived to extinguish the fire. Reason for fire still undetermined.

While driving down the road abs light came on briefly. Also, there was a burning smell on the passenger's side in the computer area. Contacted dealer, he couldn't find the cause.

This vehicle was in the shop about 8 times for electrical problems, with 5 times being documented. Problems started about 4 months after I took delivery of it. Nearly all the light switches were changed along with the electronic eye for the lights.

Check engine light kept coming on. The electrical harness caught fire in the engine compartment. Smoke was coming from under the hood in the driveway. Took vehicle to dealer. Was informed by mechanic the wires were installed too close to manifold. Had the wires replaced, but been having problems with wires every since.

Vehicle was parked & replaced oil. Noticed hood was black. Was informed that electrical wiring harness is too close to exhaust manifold. This caused the hood to burn. Took to dealer & had it repaired.

Made a u-turn and fell into a ditch. After the driver got out of that ditch smoke was noticed coming from under the hood. The vehicle burned completely, and the problem has not been determined.
