Failure of brakes at low speed, almost stopped, which seems to engage abs and clicking sound, but stopping is very delayed. Has caused me to run off my driveway and out into intersections. Gm refused to repair under recall case number 05v379000 because they said my VIN was not included in the group.
The contact's vehicle was having the same problem as stated in recall 05v379000. He contacted general motors, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. There have been no repairs to the vehicle at this time. He does have an appointment at the local dealership this week.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, extended cab. The contact stated that when using the braking system had to press on the brake pedal three times to get the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The first time when the contact pressed on the brake pedal it was completely hard and would not stop the vehicle, the second time the pedal was depressed it pulsated. The third time when applying the brakes it allowed the vehicle to abruptly stop as if the contact was panic braking. The contact contacted the manufacturer. They told him to contact a local service dealer to have the vehicle inspected to see if it was the same problem as stated in the recall. Then, they would consider repairing the vehicle. There is a recall on the year, make, and model of vehicle, but the consumer does not live in the salt belt states. The contact lives approximately 30 miles or less to the state line that separates west virginia, which is included in the recall, and virginia, the state in which the consumer lives in.
I have a 2001 chevy z71 Silverado ext cab 4x4 with the 5. 3 v8 with 42000 miles. While slowing down to under 10 mph for railroad crossing then coasting over and went to apply brakes to stop for the stop light, pedal went to the floor and the brakes were not working causing me to rear end a large gravel dump truck. Caused damage to my bumper, grill and wrinkled my hood. I have not had any past problems with my brakes and without out warning they failed. I have done some research and found TSB 03-05-25-007a Sep 04 brakes - low speed abs activation describing my problem. I have read many forums and it appears this is happening to a lot of people. Why hasn't gm issued a recall since this is definitely a safety issue. What happens next time when I can't stop when a child is in front of me! I have not driven the vehicle since and have not had it repaired until I get a response from gm since I feel I should not have to make this as a insurance claim.
2001 chevy Silverado activation of abs system for no reason, almost causing accident.
Abs activation at low speeds(5 - 10 mph) at low speeds and only at low speeds abs will randomly activate and cause inability to stop. Brake pedal must be released and reapplied carefully to prevent hitting cars or other objects. No accident as of yet, but the problem matches exactly NHTSA action number pe05020.

-had to replace both left and right front hub and bearing assemblies in my 2001 chevy Silverado truck(41,500 miles). The abs system seemed to "kick in" as I came to a stop; made it very difficult to stop truck at a safe distance.
When bringing my 2001 chev. Silverado to a stop, the anti-lock brake system operates when I have almost come to a stop, even on dry pavement, but when it happens it doesn't allow me to stop the vehicle until abs finally stops operating. It is an intermittent problem, but seems to happen more and more. I know of at least one more person who had the identical problem with his 2000 Silverado.
While coming over a bridge approaching a light in the left turn lane, the light went from green to red. The road was somewhat bumpy at the light. I was doing less than 10 miles an hour. I applied the brakes and the abs engaged violently. It felt like the pedal was pushing back at me. The truck was unable to stop and I had to veer into the right lane to avoid a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. The truck would not stop despite pressing very hard on the brakes. I ran the red light and pulled over.
At slow speeds the abs engage when they aren't supposed to.
Contact states vehicle was taken to a service dealer becaus e abs brake system was not working.
Abs comes on at low speed just before I stop the truck. Sometimes after coming off the highway and mostly when the truck was just started after sitting overnight or during work and the first couple times I need to stop. I'm nervous about the abs and worried I can't stop safely if I have to.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign #05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN.

Anti lock brakes engage as truck is coming to a stop, for no apparent reason. This causes an increase in stopping distance and some loss of vehicle control. This is also very disturbing to the driver who feels they do not have complete control of the vehicle. Same problem that 1500 series chevy Silverados are having.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. There is an open NHTSA investigation, pe05020. Contact knows several other people with this same type of brake problem. The anti lock brakes work sometimes. Contact has to press and release to have brake pressure.
2001 Silverado. Consumer was traveling at low speeds of 15mph or less, brakes wer applied, and abs system did not allow vehicle to stop. Consumer believed that anti lock brake system engaged when it should not. Consumer talked to chevyrolet, and Chevrolet said that since it was at low speeds it was not a safety issue. Problem started about a month ago.
On several occasions, my chevy Silverado almost failed to stop at slow speeds because the abs was engaging on dry pavement. Approx 12 times it almost caused me to crash in parking lots.
I have a 2001 Silverado and the antilocks kick in at very slow speeds. . Causing extended stopping range and delayed stopping. . . . .
Consumer's abs motor will not shut off, causing the battery to run down. The warning light for the abs illuminated. The service dealer stated the entire abs motor needed to be replaced. The contact did pull the fuse to the abs system. Consumer feels that since the abs is a required option then it should be covered under warranty instead of costing $1,000 to replace. Consumer feels that since it's the braking system that it would be a safety issue and states that arizona is only worried about emissions.
The anti lock braking system engages approximately 75% of the time as I come to a stop. This happens on dry pavement. I have an appointment with the dealership to have it corrected.
Dt: the consumer stated that she owns a 2001 chevy Silverado and the abs brakes were not working. The consumer and had to shift to a lower gear in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicles system did not give a warning for the malfunction that was about to occur. The consumer has the original parts that were taken off of the vehicle for GMC to do a diagnosis of the situation. Consumer is very upset about the abs brakes and the complaints they saw on NHTSA's website and wants GMC to do something about the safety of their vehicles.
Anti lock brake system corroded, and vehicle might not pass inspection. Took vehicle to inspection station, who said this was the problem. Had several incidents. Sometimes vehicle didn't stop. Brakes seemed to be defective. Consumer added that the anti-lock braking system activates while driving without depressing the brake pedal, thus causing heat build-up and increasing stopping distance. Also increases anxiety as to whether or not the vehicle will stop in time.
The abs would activate between 2-4 mph. The technician indicated the problem was the result of rust build-up.
Consumer states: consumer let go of the brake pedal and pushed it again and abs system didn't work at all times. This may happen one time in a month.
The consumer stated that there NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 involving the anti lock brake in which his vehicle experienced the same symptoms as indicated in the recall but was not included due to the VIN. No repairs had been made at this time. (11/22/05).
The antilock braking system apparently is engaging at low speeds. When the system falsely engages it becomes extremely difficult to stop the vehicle. I have had numerous near misses in parking lots and the final straw was narrowly missing a pedestrian in a cross walk. I have pulled the fuse for the abs system (now my cruise control will not work, but better than the alternative).
Vehicle has 48,400 miles, on it, and had to have the rotors and brakes changed. Certified mechanics did the work. Consumer was upset about the fact that the brakes did not last long. When the rotors were taken off they were just pieces of metal missing, and they all were rusty, especially on the inside where the anti lock brakes operated. Consumer said that the front rotor was too thin to be turned, the brake pad was not worn out and it was poor metal from the manufacturer. Consumer talked to several other Silverado vehicle owners and they either had the same problem or didn't know about the situation until after they got there vehicle checked out, and was informed of the same problem. Consumer said that the dealership was aware of similar incidents such as this one because of other Silverado owners.
