Five problems related to brake light on have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

Brake lights turned on and brakes went out.

2 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Brake line erupted leaving me in an unsafe situation with no warning and putting me at risk. I went to apply the brakes entering a controlled intersection and my brake pedal felt different as it went all the way to the floor and barely stopped my 2002 2500hd Chevrolet silveraldo crew cab truck. Pumping the brakes had no positive effect on stopping my vehicle. Brake warning light did not display after brake line failure. No brakes and no brake warning indicator. There is property damage to my truck and my house due to this brake line failure.

3 Brake Light On problem

Brake light with (!) (p) red came on dashboard with in 10 min no brakes brake line broke.

4 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2006

: the contact stated while traveling 40 mph on normal road conditions, a vibration was felt and extended stopping distance occurred when the hydraulic brakes were applied. The brake lights did not illuminate prior to the incident, and the failure occurred under normal braking. The brake design was wheel antilock. The nature of the problem was worsening. The vehicle was examined by a local dealer who determined that the problem was unwanted activity with the antilock brakes. The vehicle was not included in any recall due to the VIN. No repairs had been made. A NHTSA recall # 05v379000 pertaining to the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock related to this matter.

5 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2005

On June 17, 2005, I felt the brake pedal of my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado truck (VIN 1gcec14w62z161405) pulsate when I came to a stop at the bottom of the exit ramp from I-75. This lasted for a couple of seconds, and the truck took a couple of extra feet to stop. I had a similar problem on my 1998 chevy lumina several months ago and the abs warning light came on. That problem cost over $ 500 to repair. The lumina had 49k miles, but the truck only has 18. 5k miles. The only thing in common with these two vehicles is that I switch off on driving them, sometimes letting one or the other stay parked for a week or two, depending on what kind of work I am doing. This time, with the Silverado, no abs or brake warning lights ever came on, so I assumed that the system had just detected some minor sliding of one of the wheels as I was coming to a stop, possibly from some loose gravel or rocks. Later that day, I decided to stop at the local home depot, on my way home from work. When I pulled into a parking spot, I pushed on the brake pedal and could hear the abs pump (?) working very hard. The brake pedal would not move at all, and the brake system did not seem to be stopping any of the wheels. I only had a fraction of a second to react, so I threw the transmission into reverse. This stopped the forward motion of the truck, and I put it into park, before it could move any more. I ended up stopped about a foot from the rear bumper of the car in the space ahead of me. If a pedestrian had run out in front of me earlier, and I had been unable to stop, they might have been killed. Through all this, none of the abs, brake, or check engine warning lights ever came on. I do not think that a vehicle with this low mileage should have such a potentially fatal problem, and the abs components should not corrode, as they did in the lumina, and possibly in the Silverado, if the vehicle is not driven regularly. I am extremely fortunate that no one was injured or killed.
