Battery Dead Problems of Chevrolet Silverado

The gauge cluster is always drawing power. Battery goes dead if I do not drive the vehical for one day.

While driving at highway speeds the interior lights began flickering on the dash and in the cabin. Approximately 45 seconds to one minute after the initial dash and light issues the check engine light came on and a notice of battery charging failure occurred, within a few seconds of this occurrence I began to slow down and pull over. The engine shut off before this could occur. By the time I coaxed the vehicle onto the shoulder the electrical system and door locks were no longer working. Smoke and flames began to enter the cockpit and I immediately exited the vehicle. The interior of the vehicle was fully engulfed in less than a minute and the entire truck, bed, and gas tank soon followed. The truck was completely consumed and is now a total loss.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado which was purchased used on August 25, 2007. She stated that the vehicle would steer on its on to the left or right without warning while driving at any speeds over 10 mph. The steering wheel would not move while this was happening, only the vehicle itself. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure persisted and vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer made repairs to the tires, tow in and tow out mechanisms, and performed a wheel alignment, to no avail. No repairs were made to date to correct the actual failure. The contact was concerned about the safety risk since a potential crash could occur. The failure mileage was 6,000 and the current was 35,000. Updated 02/23/10. 2002 Silverado battery failed. The positive terminal became disconnected from the battery making it unstable.

Lights for instrument panel occasionally does not work. Battery died. Radio made loud humming noise even when car shut off overnight. Air conditioner broke. But the continual problem is the 4wd becomes inoperable and service 4wd message appears. Gm has no repair. They state I must stop turn off the vehicle and restart it in order to "wake up" the electronics. It has been in the repair shop 4 times in last six months when I bought it new. The dangerous part is while driving in ice and snow the vehicle's 4wd became inoperable resulting in loss of control of vehicle and a near miss crash.

Battery failed and leaked acid at terminal. Acid leaked onto wind shield washer pump. Battery and pump had to be replaced.

Consumer states that if vehicle is not used ever day the battery will die out. Had battery replaced 8 times. Dealership cannot fix problem.
