2 Brake Light On problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/14/2020

The abs system failed when braking on a snowy, icy, slippery road locking all four wheels causing the vehicle to skid out of control. The brake light and abs light and tcs icon were displayed. The brakes had to be released to regain steering control and judicious use of manual braking eventually brought the vehicle to a stop. The abs pump motor was noted running continuously even with the engine off. Onstar diagnostics indicated a traction control system error. This braking failure occurred in conditions that the abs is specifically designed to prevent loss of control!.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

While coming to a stop in turn lane, brake assist light came on. Intermittent issue. After couple days of experiencing, I take truck in to find out about recall. They perform reprogramming. Doesn't fix issue. Tell me I have to pay diagnostic fee. Thy find vacuum pump needs replacing. They covered cost under "special coverage" because they know it's faulty (but not covered already under recall?). They say it's fixed. I pick the truck up, brake assist light comes on driving out the parking lot. Take it back next day. They tell me "pin" in the connector is broken causing "ground fault. " they charge me $500+ to run new wire in wire harness. Same connector that would have to be touched while replacing vacuum pump. I pay to have pin fixed. 3 weeks later, brake assist light comes back on with same exact symptoms. This time, they tell me ecbm need to be replaced. Not just reprogrammed. Somehow, the prior times, the error code wasn't stored. A) errors aren't being stored b) they're covering their warranty cost by charging for other adjacent parts c) brake assist issue going on for nearly 8 weeks now unresolved. They need to expand their recall to include adjacent "connectors" which the dealer admits hardly ever fail. Also should include vacuum pump not just as special coverage. Also, recall should expand to replace ecbm because apparently they aren't storing fault codes when they occur. I read this same thing across many forum posts online. All the same issues. Hard braking, or soft mechanical brake feel. I've now spent 1100 dollars on a problem that falls squarely within the description of the recall. They tell me that "these parts" aren't covered under the recall. I say, expand the recall. Recall states they don't have to include this in sec filings. I think they are under representing their true costs. My gm case #9-5696419690.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/23/2015

I was driving along and had to hit the brakes immediately. I almost hit the car in front of me. I noticed I had to start putting the brakes all the way to the floor in order to stop, especially on an incline. The brake light went on and off a few times so I took it to a shop to have it looked at. They told me that my brake line blew and all the other brake lines are rusted and the truck is not safe to drive. This truck is only 11 years old, that is absolutely unacceptable that all the brake lines are rusted. The truck only has 108k miles. I called a local chevy dealership and they quoted me 3k+ to fix it. It involved at least 20 hours of labor and they needed to lift the frame off to fix. I can not believe their are no recalls from gm or atleast them offering any help to pay for this. The dealer did not offer me any help or remedy to the situation, just wanted me to fork up 3k.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

Brakes: since approximately 136,000 miles to present miles, the vehicle has exhibited an abs and brake warning light intermittently on the dash. This is a known gm issue that was recalled in certain states, but not all. It stems from faulty soldering points in the abs control module and can affect the vehicles ability to stop correctly which could result in an accident. Engine/ emissions: the passenger side exhaust manifold bolt has broken off. This is a known issue with this 5. 3l engine as well as the 4. 8l and 6. 0l engines. Gm has failed to recall in spite of having thousands of complaints. The issue can cause failed emissions and potentially engine fires. Engine: as of 164,000 miles, the engine is experiencing loud "piston slap". This is a known issue which gm addressed through redesign in later models. It leads to excessive engine wear and potential engine failure. It appears to be a factory defect, yet gm has claimed it is not important despite numerous complaints from customers that the engines have required replacement as a result.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

While driving to the doctors office the service brake light came on and I had no brakes on the rear wheels. Upon inspection of the fluid resivoir, I found it to be empty. After carefully getting it home I found the brake line to the rear brakes to be rusted through. On futher inspection, all of the lines under the truck are very badly rusted.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I pressed on the brakes and felt one set blow out, pressed harder to compensate and felt the remaining set blow out. The pedal then went to the floor resulting in a total loss of braking. The brake light did not come on (no reason for it to?). Luckily I had a trailer connected which had working electric brakes and I was able to manually activate those brakes. Later that day while moving the vehicle in my yard, I used the emergency brake which immediately failed. Inspection of the brake lines revealed massive corrosion on all of the lines and will require complete replacement. Inspection of the emergency brake revealed the line was coated in plastic except in some areas. Those areas were totally corroded resulting in the cable braking in one of those areas. So in one pedal action, both front and back brakes catastrophically failed. And in the same day, all 3 systems failed. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and they requested that the vehicle be towed in and have a diagnostic test run (at the vehicle owners expense), however Chevrolet had no program in place and would not cover any of the repairs no matter what the outcome of the diagnostic test. . . I opted to repair all the break lines myself to avoid the the extra cost of a tow and diagnostic test that would have no outcome other than a report to Chevrolet at a large expense to me. Approximate failure mileage was 190,000 miles.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

I was traveling down the expressway about 70 mph and needed to brake quickly for road construction. When I stepped on the brake pedal, it went to the floor board and there was no pressure. The red brake light came on immediately, but there was no warning before applying the brakes. With difficulty, I was able to get the vehicle to stop and barely missed the vehicle way out in front and the road construction equipment and crew. I was scared to death.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Noticed that cruise control did not work while driving. Took vehicle to auto shop to have problem fixed, was told brake lights remained on even when brakes were not being applied (did not remain on when ignition was off), had the brake light switch replaced and problem was fixed. A few months later, a fellow drive told me that my brake lights were staying on while driving and then I noticed that the cruise control was not working again. Took back to auto shop, was told that the brake light switch was ok. Took vehicle to gm dealership and was told that the body control module needs to be replaced. I did some research and noticed that gm had a recall in may 2014 for passenger cars with similar problems.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

When I left our garage I noticed that the red brake system light was on. Usually my husband drives this to work but we switched vehicles because I needed to haul a trailer to help move my daughter. I have only drive this vehicle one other time so I was unfamiliar with how it handled. I noticed that I had to press hard to stop but thought that was how it handled. I drove over 120 miles with it this way, I didn't know what was wrong with it, by the time I pulled into our drive, I could barely stop the vehicle. My husband came out to release the trailer out back. He got in and said, "what's wrong with the brakes?" I said, "what do you mean?" he told me I had no brakes and I could have been killed. It was a near miss incident but I have found (as a former safety manager) that those near miss incidents often show a root cause) that in the future means something. Please let me know if there ever is a class action suit to recoup the money we will have to pay to have this repaired.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

I drove to dental office, parked my truck, attended appointment. I returned to my truck, drove approx. 1-2 miles before coming to an intersection where my lane was stopped at a red light on this two lane road. 3 vehicles in front of me were stopped at a red light. I attempted to slow down when my brakes failed with no warning. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor and was barely slowing down. I swerved left and had to cross double yellow lines into oncoming traffic to avoid crashing into the car in front of me, which would have collided with the two other cars at the light. Once that accident was avoided, someone turned from a side street headed directly at my veh. I managed to slow, cut back into my proper lane and narrowly avoid hitting the stopped cars at the light once again. I regained very little stopping ability. Once stopped, my brake light came on. Brake line broke in rear left drivers side. Brake lines need to be replaced.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

Driving about 60 mph about 10 miles into the trip when the truck lost speed, the abs brakes did a slight on and off pulsating every couple of seconds, the engine was running rough and giving it gas the engine revved up but wouldn't go anywhere. Speed dropped down to 35 or 40 mph and wouldn't go any faster. The dash indicator showed messages stating stabilitrak traction control turned off and check engine light is on. It jolted real hard when it shifts gears. When I mashed the brake it didn't want to come to a complete stop without pressing the brakes to hold the truck there. I pulled into a store popped the hood and finding nothing I turned the truck off for a few seconds and restarted it but nothing changed and the error messages were still being displayed. The trucks engine was running rough. I headed home and it didn't have any power and jolted hard as it shifted gears. I coudln't go but 35 or 40 mph on the level ground. If I went up a slight hill the truck slowed down more until I got past the hill. I gave it gas and the engine would rev up but had no power and wouldn't go 35 or 40 mph. I parked the truck in the garage and in 10 minutes I went to start it to get the error messages and it started up fine and the engine wasn't running rough. I drove it 1/2 mile down the road and back and it ran perfect. I googled the error messages and found alot of complaints and comments about this issue on the Chevrolet forum website. No recall information just alot of people experiencing the same issue and alot worse cases that almost caused accidents. Is there a recall on this issue? I read that I will probably have the issue again because after it sits for 10 min it probably won't have a problem until a few minutes or days later. I can only hope doesn't cause me to have a wreck and kill myself or someone else. This is a major issue and should be recalled to fix the problem.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

Brake lines brakes went completely to the floor at the same time brake warning light came on . A little late for a warning. I repaired line and started driving again. Almost a year later to the day same thing happened again. I've owned 21 Chevrolets over a span of 45 years and only had one brake line failure(1969 corvette). I thought this was strange so I did a little research and noticed that all the brake lines had more rust than any thing else under the truck. I looked online and was appalled to learn this has been a known problem for over four years, yet no attempt was made to warn the owners of these trucks. Gm 's response was laughable unless they can remotely tell how much fluid has been lost from each vehicle. Also just like an apple brake lines don't rot evenly unless something else is going on. I live in a state where it snows once or twice a year and melts off within a week and right after I go to the car wash to get the under body wash.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

My wife was driving my truck a 2006 Silverado and said the brake light came on so I filled it up didn't think much of it did a quick look didn't see anything 2 weeks later she said it was on again so I filled it up again and this time did a thorough inspection checked the master cylinder, booster started checked each caliper and nothing so I got under the truck and its leaking from the middle of the truck under the drivers seat the brake lines are all rusty. I do all of my work on my cars but this looks ridiculous where do you start rip them all out and replace all? they are on top of the frame rail which look impossible to get to it looks like its going to be a lot of money is there a recall for this? I hope some can help me out the truck is very clean especially underneath that's the only thing rusted out of everything.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

I went to slow to make turn and brakes went to the floor suddenly so I used emergency brake to stop. I believe all lines will need to be replaced as other look as rusty. Rust has been an issue for last 2 years with rotors needing replace then bearings in front rusted and anti-lock brake light would come on and pedal would surge. This is the worse chevy truck I ever bought as even seeing rust already in lower panels and entire frame. Looks bad for only 53474 miles.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

Today on my way home from a doctors visit I was leaving route 509 off ramp from heading north bound in seattle washington. I applied the brakes to slow down and as I approached the stop light suddenly the brake pedal collapsed to the floor correspoinding with the service brake light turning on. Luckily the light changed to green so I was able to avoid an accident. After making the turn I drove slowly untill it was safe to stop as this is a very industrial area with no place to stop. I had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle, once I was safe I examined the brake system and saw fluid dropping below the master cylinder onto the ground. When I looked closer I found a rusted brake line rupture on the front passenger brake line depressurizing the system. I looked online to see if there were any additional complaints and have found a very common issue here and realized I should share my story. The truck is not that old and having been an autonotive technician there is no excuse for brake lines to fail like this regardless of the regional climates. This truck resided prominently in florida and texas and only recenlty has arrived in washington. I hope this helps and chevy really does need to take responsibility for a major safey problem like this. I cant trust any of the lines in the truck after this and intend to replace all of them. 29 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

Safety concern- potential trailering accident!!! it appears that Chevrolet/gm has changed the wiring in their vehicles so that electric trailer brake controllers no longer illuminate the trailer brake lights when the electric brake controller is operated independently from the vehicle brakes. All brake lights work fine when the foot brake is applied but no brake lights illuminate when the controller overide is applied to operate the trailer brakes independently. There are times when trailering that one only wishes to use the trailer brakes to settle down swaying or on long down hill grades. 2012 vehicles are not wired so that brake lights also work off the controller override switch. I have been towing for over 26 years and brake lights have always worked both on the foot brake and controller override brake switch. This is a potential accident waiting to happen. If one applies the trailer brakes alone with no brake lights illuminating, this could cause another vehicle to slam into the back of the trailer and tow vehicle causing a crash. Chevrolet states they cannot connect the trailer controllers to operate the brake lights as it would back feed power into the electronics of the vehicle voiding any warranty on the vehicle. Trailer brakes lights only work as connected to the vehicle wiring when stepping on the foot brake.

30 Brake Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/27/2012

The vehicle went from normal braking to taking much longer to stop without warning. The pedal felt softer, and fell further to the floor. With pumping I was able to stop. Further more the brakes didn't seam to hold. I had to lift and reapply or the truck would roll. The brake light didn't light until after it initially failed to stop normally. On investigation I found a leak in one of the brakes lines that goes under the cab. It is part of a cluster of brake likes on top of the frame rail. This may be related to NHTSA action number : ea11001 mileage is unknown because the electronic display for it has failed.

31 Brake Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

The brakes failed when pulling into a turn lane to exit off a busy main highway. No warning, no brake light came on to indicate trouble. There were no brakes at all. Although there is high mileage, the brakes should still function and should provide some indication that there is a problem. This could have caused a serious accident.

32 Brake Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

Brake lines are severely rusted. The hydraulic brake light comes on during every drive, but still has fluid. Replacement cost of components over $1600, not including abs control problems.

33 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

Brake failure. Applied brakes rapidly due to vehicle stopping in front of me. Noticed tire squeal then brake pedal remained firm but, my vehicle failed to stop. Had to steer into opposite travel lane to avoid accident. Brakes then began to function normally. Drove to dealership to have checked. Service manager said brakes checked ok. In route to my home service brake soon light appeared on dash display.

34 Brake Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

Rusted brake lines failed on my 99 chevy Silverado and I crashed into my garage door pulling in. There was no brake warning light until I hit the brake and there was none the petal went to the floor. The only reason why my truck has so many miles is because it was used to tow a trailer across country for 5 years for the last 7 it has been used as a as needed truck.

35 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Brake line erupted leaving me in an unsafe situation with no warning and putting me at risk. I went to apply the brakes entering a controlled intersection and my brake pedal felt different as it went all the way to the floor and barely stopped my 2002 2500hd Chevrolet silveraldo crew cab truck. Pumping the brakes had no positive effect on stopping my vehicle. Brake warning light did not display after brake line failure. No brakes and no brake warning indicator. There is property damage to my truck and my house due to this brake line failure.
